This Week in Reading - February 11

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Nothing!  I've had a couple of big weeks in a row so an empty bookshelf this week is most welcome!

Currently:

ReadingDear Fahrenheit 451 by Annie Spence and The Tuscan Child by Rhys Bowen

Listening;  I just finished Coraline by Neil Gaiman (good but so weird!) and am about to start Choose Your Own Adventure by Neil Patrick Harris.

Watching:  We've been watching a lot of Odd Squad with the Tornado.  It's pretty clever - especially for a kids show.  Other than that J and I have been watching Top Chef and I've been enjoying NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans since I had a few to catch up on.

Off the Blog:

This Friday was the Father/Daughter Dance at the Tornado's school which normally wouldn't affect me but this year I somehow ended up chairing it.  It went really well and everyone had a lot of fun but I'm exhausted!  Eleanor's Baby Shower is today otherwise I'd be spending the whole day in sweats and comfy socks not doing much of anything!

Will all the craziness this week with dance planning (planning a dance for 300 little girls and their fathers/stepfathers/uncles/grandfathers requires a lot of running around!) I've found myself not exactly in a reading rut but feeling especially picky.  I'm feeling a little burned out on cozies but I tried a romance and the main character annoyed me and it seems like I've had some problem with just about every book I've picked up.  I'm hoping this week straightens out!

On the Blog:

  1. I hate when nothing I try to read is enjoyable. Luckily I had a good week, with four books I loved...although I also had a DNF.

I hope you enjoyed the baby shower...but I can also see the appeal of sweats and comfy socks.

  2. Aww those father/ daughter dances are the best. :) And sorry to hear about the rut... hopefully that passes soon. I've only read one Rhys Bowen but I enjoyed it. And I've never read Gaiman... I don't know if he's for me...?

Hope your week is a good one.

  3. I remember going to a father daughter dance once! I was probably in the 2nd grade, and I believe that it was 50s themed. I wore one of those poodle skirts. I miss those days, now I have to adult and all that not so fun stuff. XD

    Have a good week! :)

  5. Sounds like blobbing out and no reading for a little while until the reading mojo returns. I am having trouble picking my next audiobook, have spent over an hour going - no, no, no not that one either!

  6. I hear you! From about July onwards I had great difficulty picking up a book and finishing it. Thankfully Christmas fun reads seemed to cure me. I'm glad to hear the Daddy Daughter Dance went well. It sounds adorable.

  7. Father/daughter dances sound super fun for them, but it should ahave been tiring for you. And let me know about the Neil Patrick Harris's book, I might have it.

  8. Hopefully you don't have book slump coming on, as they are no fun. The dance on the other hand sounds like a lot of fun, although hard work organising it.

  9. Good job chairing a dance. Wow. That's a lot of work! And I was proud of MY achievements, lol.

  10. I hope you settle into a good book this week. I was so overwhelmed by volunteer work when I was a SAHM.

  11. Hope the baby shower is fun! A father-daughter dance - cute, I'm sure. You'll settle into a book soon - maybe a nice murder or thriller. LOL!

  12. I also got nothing last week! So proud of myself xD
Maybe you need to pick up something completely our of your genres to get back into reading? Sometimes helps :)
    Have a nice week!

  13. Oh wow I can't imagine chairing that dance. My daughter had her's this Friday and it was so sweet. Hope you have fun at the baby shower. Have a great week!!

  14. Wow, quite an accomplishment to take on the father-daughter dance--especially when you didn't have a daughter in the dance! Glad it went well.

I know just what you mean about picking the next book to read, Katherine. I look at a lot of books some days before I decide what I'm going to read. Even then I sometimes start a book and just can't keep reading for some reason.

Hope you have a great week and lots of fun at the baby shower!

    Have a great week!

  16. I want to read Choose Your Own Adventure. And my kids loved Odd Squad. I can only imagine how much work went into that dance! I hope you have a good week!

  17. I've heard good things about Dear Fahrenheit 451! It sounds like a cool idea for a book.
I hate when I have those times when every book I pick up just doesn't seem right. I hope that you find a good book soon :)

  18. Oh I remember daddy-daughter dances! How sweet, except if you're the chairperson for hundreds of people! Glad it went well.

Enjoy the baby shower! You will be such a young grandmother, lol, do you have any special name picked out to be called? Or will you be Grandma? I was given the title Nana when my eldest gave birth.

We all get in ruts. It seems to happen frequently when we read just one genre and then suddenly, poof, it no longer interests us. You'll find something!

  19. Wow super busy! That does take a lot to plan but I am glad it all worked out!
Enjoy the baby shower, you must be getting so excited. A friend just become a grandma and she is over the moon about it.

I went to a genre change and so far Fantasy is exactly what I needed. Maybe instead of romance (main characters in those annoy me too) try clean romance. I know Shadow Mountain Publishing has some really awesome ones that I adore. They always help when I need a little romance! :)

Have a great week, Katherine! Happy Reading! ox

  20. I recently went through a reading slump. Nothing grabbed me, book after book. I think mine was just a bit of burn out and I was tired too. Sounds like you've been busy. I often try to reread a favorite book to get my reading mojo back in gear:)

  21. Oh, I hate those times when you want to read, but nothing really appeals. You've been very busy—I can't imagine planning an event of that size!

Congratulations to Eleanor, and have fun at the baby shower! And may your reading go better this week.

  22. I loved the audio version of Dear Fahrenheit 451... hope it is just as good in print. Hope you find some new books that keep your attention this week. Have fun at the baby shower!

  23. Organising a dads/daughter dance? Never mind about sweats and fluffy socks - I think you need a slink suit with WONDERWOMAN emblazoned across your cape... I hope you regain your reading mojo very soon, Katherine.

  26. Oh wow...you have been busy! Are father daughter dances a new thing? I keep seeing them everywhere but didn't just a few years ago when my kids were little. Baby shower planning is also a lot of work. I hope you get some relaxation next week!

  27. What a busy week! I hope everything went off without a hitch. You definitely deserve some rest and relaxation.

  28. Father/Daughter with 300 little girls, sounds fun and very loud. I hope you have a better reading week coming up, it's a disappoint to start a book and get annoyed with the characters. Have a great week.

  29. I had zero on my shelves, this week, too! You must be over the moon excited about the baby. I hope you had a fabulous start to the week. :)

  30. Hi Katherine! Hope you're well.

Dance planning for 300 little girls sounds CRAZY!!!!! I hope that this week is better for you and that reading has picked up!

  31. Oh goodness. Yes, I bet that would take a lot of planning. Glad it went well :) And yay for no reads. I need to follow your lead on that. lol

  32. That's so cute how your school has those kind of dances. None of that exists here. There were 6th grade dances at the community center; my teen attended one but was bored so she never went back.
