Crimson Summer - Romantic Suspense Review

Goodreads:  Crimson Summer (Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest FBI #2) by Heather Graham

Rating: Liked It
Source:   Publisher

Description:  When FDLE special agent Amy Larson discovers a small horse figurine amid the bloody aftermath of a gang massacre in the Everglades, she recognizes it immediately. The toy is the calling card of the apocalypse cult that Amy and her partner, FBI special agent Hunter Forrest, have been investigating, and it can only mean one thing: this wasn’t an isolated skirmish—it was the beginning of a war.

As tensions between rival gangs rise, so does the body count, and Amy and Hunter’s investigation leads them to a violent, far-right extremist group who are in no hurry to quell the civil unrest. With a deadly puppet master working to silence their every lead, it’s a race against the clock to figure out who’s been pulling the strings and put a stop to the escalating cartel turf war before the Everglades run red.

Genre: Mystery - Romantic Suspense

Why I Picked This Book:   I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was in the mood for something a bit creepy.

My Impression:  Heather Graham writes enjoyable romantic suspense.  They're not always the most memorable but they're always a fun read.   That said, I do find her books that feature recurring main characters to be her weakest and this is an example of that.  I think one of the reasons I mostly read her Krewe series because while there are reoccurring side characters the main characters change.

The actual mystery here was interesting but because the beginning especially referenced the earlier book pretty heavily it wasn't as fast paced as the first book and took me a bit longer to get invested in this particular story.   I did like that Amy and Hunter discussed some of the issues about being two law enforcement officers in a relationship and I think they're an interesting couple to head a series.  I just wish this particularly mystery had been a standalone featuring them instead of connecting to the previous book.

If you're looking for an entertaining romantic suspense Heather Graham is a great author to try though I recommend picking up her Krewe of Hunters series or the first book in this series.

Would I Read More of this Series/Author? Yes!  Even though this wasn't my favorite I still enjoyed the read and will always pick up new books by this author.

Would I Recommend this Book?  I would definitely recommend the first book in this series before this one.

* I received this book in exchange for an honest review.  As always my opinions and impressions are completely my own. *

  1. Heather Graham has been around for quite a while. I haven't read one of her books in a while, but would like to sometime soon. Nice review.

  2. I think that have only read one of her books so far. I really need to read more since I think that I would really like this series.

  3. I wouldn't mind trying her Krewe books, maybe when I get right through the Karen Rose books, but then again I could begin with the first one to see.

  4. I stopped reading her books because they all started to blend together and because the leads weren't always compelling. I'll probably pass on this one too.
