Life with Leukemia, A Puppy and Some Reading - May 1

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Point Last Seen by Christina Dodd - I have been loving romantic suspense lately and this one sounds fantastic!  It's been awhile since I've read a good amnesia based suspense.  (Publisher)

The Proof is in the Poison by Diane Kelly - I read the first book in this series about a woman who has started a moonshine store in Chattanooga, TN and enjoyed it and am excited to see where the series goes.  (Publisher)

Bayou Book Thief by Ellen Byron - So excited about this one!  I was so sad when Byron ended the Bayou Mysteries but this start to a new series looks great.  (Publisher)

Murder Is No Picnic by Amy Pershing - This is the 3rd book in a cozy series set in Cape Cod which features a disgraced chef and a big clumsy dog.  (Publisher)

Dead Men Don't Decorate by Cordy Abbott - I know nothing about this book or this author but it involves an antique store which I can never resist. (Publisher)

Currently:

Reading:  Claws for Suspicion by Deborah Blake and The Villa by Nora Roberts

Listening:  I just finished Marrying Winterbourne by Lisa Kleypas which I really enjoyed.  Since today is the first day of the month my Hoopla borrows start over (my library allows for 5 a month) so I'm trying to decide what to listen to next.

This week has been a bit of a blur.  Allergy season has hit super hard here for some reason and I'm about 90% Benadryl at this point so I'm pretty groggy.  I have bad allergies at the best of times but this year has knocked me flat.

Will is doing well.  His numbers are good and he's definitely had more energy with the calorie boost he's gotten through the feedings through the NG tube.  He's feeling pretty good and has we've gotten a lot of school done.  My only concern is that one of his immune systems numbers is trending down and we have a trip (our first since the beginning of the pandemic and his diagnosis) planned for later this week.  It's through a St Jude affiliate that does a big carnival for cancer patients and their families and it sounds fun.  We are really looking forward to it so fingers crossed his numbers don't drop too much and he stays healthy through the week.

Rover is doing great.  He got a new toy this week and has been taking it everywhere with him which is pretty cute.  We have the last Manners (beginning obedience) class this week.  He's not quite ready to move up yet so we will repeat Manners.  I need a little more training on consistency and he needs a bit more maturity.   We've definitely made a lot of progress but he's still only 6.5 months old so occasionally goes into full puppy mode and considering he's about 60 pounds it can get a bit crazy!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  5. I just saw the Christina Dodd book on several blogs and I don't think I've ever read her books, but that one looks good to me. It's amazing how fast Rover is growing lately! Despite his large size his breed would make him still quite a puppy so I guess it's a good thing that he needs to be left back in school, lol. I hope your son gets to go to the Carnival. That would definitely be a fun event.

  6. I don’t think I’ve read Christina Dodd but I probably have her on my goodreads list. Oh, the grass pollen has been hitting me hard. Sneezing and watery eyes. I wanted to try Zyrtec but there are warnings about liver disease & my numbers have been high so, had to pass.
Hope you get to the carnival & Will continues to feel great!

  8. Oh goodness, allergies are horrible right now! I have a perscription from the doctor and it helps but still sometimes I get a bad case. Benadryl just makes me feel horrible I can't do it.

Hope Will's numbers stay good so you guys can go to the carnival!!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  11. Aah just look at all Rover's toys. Lea is turning 13 and she still has a bag of toys and sleeps with a different teddy every night. Hercules is mainly just concerned about his ball!!

You got some great books to read. Have a good week and take care!

  12. I hope Will continues to feel well and his numbers improve. Rover is so big; it's hard to believe he's still a puppy really. Lulu loves her toys. Allergies were different this year. I didn't get the dry eye thing I have the last few years but more scratchy throat and a few sneezes. I take Allegra and have a nasal spray year round because dust and mold are always available. Happy May Day!

  13. Benedryl will knock you out. I hope your allergies get better soon. And I'm so glad Will is doing better. Rover is adorable in that photo, but I imagine 60 pounds of exuberant puppy does get to be a bit much now and then!

How are you enjoying The Villa? I haven't read that one yet.

Have a good week, and I hope Will is up to the trip and that you all have a good time!

  14. Benadryl knocks me out, too, and it does seem like allergy season has been especially tough this year. Hope Will's numbers stay stable so you can go on that trip... sounds like it would be so much fun. Rover is just adorable!

  20. Boo hiss for the allergies. 😕 I hope they settle down soon. 😔

Yay for Will feeling better. I'm sending all the good vibes that he's a-okay to go to the carnival. 🎡

  21. I hope Will stays healthy so he can go to the carnival. Sounds fun! And I can totally relate to the training thing - it can be hard to be consistent when you have a lot going on, and it doesn't help when your fluff is a big ole pile of puppy!

  22. It looks like you got quite a few great sounding books, Katherine. I have seen Cordy Abbott's book around and am curious about it. Allergies have hit us hard here too, unfortunately. Hopefully we will see some relief soon. I hope Will is able to go on the trip and you all have a good time. It sounds like fun.

  23. I am sorry about you allergies. I have been sneezing up a storm lately myself. Bummer that your library only allows 5 borrows a month, I am able to do 10 and never use them all. I am glad to hear that Will is feeling okay and hope that his number stay high enough for the carnival. Rover is just so stinking cute!
