Chasing Christmas Eve - Contemporary Romance Review

Rating: Really Liked It (4 Stars)

Source:   Library

Description:  Meet cute...

Run for the hills—temporarily. That's Colbie Albright's plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie's so over it that she's under it. She's also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she's pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won't be a stranger for long.

Make merry...

Spence's commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn't have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot chemistry—he's got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself... just because she's gorgeous and a great listener just because she gets Spence immediately doesn't mean he won't be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock's ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

Genre: Romance - Contemporary

Why I Picked This Book:  I was looking for a Christmas romance and I've always enjoyed Jill Shalvis' romances.  Plus I enjoyed the other books I've read in the Heartbreaker Bay series.

My Impression:  This was a fun trip to San Francisco.  Colbie and Spence are great characters who tend to work way harder to take care of everyone around them and very rarely spare much concern for themselves.  They're both brilliant in their own way but rarely appreciate their own skills and ability.  They're also both genuinely nice people.

This was a fun read with a good group of characters.  I love books with a strong friendship group and this has that one in spades!  Almost all of the characters have their own books in the series but this is a complete standalone.

My only complaint was that it wasn't particularly Christmas-y.  There's some window dressing (both literal and figurative) but I didn't really get a super Christmas-y feel from this book.  That said I did enjoy it and am looking forward to reading the few books in the series I haven't read.

Would I Read More of this Series/Author? Of course!  I always enjoy this author's books!

Would I Recommend this Book?  If you like contemporary romance this is a fun read!

  3. I loved this series. I actually like it when there is just a bit of Christmas in a book - then I don't feel bad about reading it in the middle of summer!

  4. I guess the title only mentions Christmas eve so maybe the lack of Christmas is explained in the title. Any way you enjoyed it and it is Jill Shalvis, will keep an eye out for it.
