Death in the Family by Tessa Wegert - I don't know much about this author but this is the first in a series about a NYPD detective who has moved to upstate New York.

Watching: We are rewatching The Office and are enjoying it. It's been years since we watched it the first time and the rewatch is such fun.
Off the Blog:
I'm home for a few days which is so nice but means a lot of scrambling around to get all kinds of things done. So much laundry to do and lots of prep work for the next trip. We are heading to Disney World and I absolutely cannot wait. We've been watching some YouTube videos and getting all our Disney stuff together to try and ramp up the anticipation.
I'm also trying to spend some time reorganizing my Goodreads account. It's become a bit of a dumping ground for every book that I see that vaguely interests me or giveaways that I enter which means it's essentially useless for organizing any kind of TBR. And for me at least it hasn't been the most user friendly to edit. I'm not the most patient so if it's not incredibly obvious how to delete a shelf or what not I lose interest and nothing gets done. Do you use your Goodreads account for really tracking your TBR?

I'm terrible at using Goodreads and I always say I'm going to organize my books there and use it more and I never do. Maybe this year haha! It's an awesome site, I really should utilize it more.

About a year ago I did a big clean up on my Goodreads account and cleared out all those "might reads" and only left the 'really want to reads' plus of course my read books. So yes i do use it a lot although this year I have started with a journal and record very simply the books I have read and a few details. I don't know if I can keep it up but will give it a go!
ReplyDeleteI use Goodreads to track my reading so I have a lot of specific shelves ie all my disaster books come under apocalypse but I'm in the process of also putting them into categories like EMP, economic disaster, nuclear attack, natural disaster etc so I can select new things to read by mood much easier. It just takes ages to sort though! I have another Goodreads Tidy to come this year...*groans*

ReplyDeleteI religiously use Goodreads to track my read list rather than the TBR, which is a gone case currently. Not having a physical/virtual TBR list is relaxing, if you can believe it.

ReplyDeleteI need to reorganize my Goodreads too, it's a dumping ground as well! You got the book that was on my WoW! Hope it's a good one! We seem to be reading a few of the same things lately. I finished Claw Enforcement and I am now listing to Field Guide to Homicide! :)

I sort of deliberately use Goodreads as my TBR dumping ground, though as a result my TBR list is at about 3000 :)

yes, I actively use my Goodreads to organize my TBR. I have a 2 part system and I use the feature of looking at multiple shelves to find the ones I want. This is like in math, a Vann diagram type thing where you have 2 circles and it is in both circles, the intersection? It has been effective in helping me when I want to find a particular thing to read. I also used the batch edit when I was organizing to get things where I wanted. Plus i use a spreadsheet for the reviews coming up in the next couple months (and particularly ARCS) to make sure they don't fall through the cracks. I'd be happy to discuss / share info with you if you are interested, at least as a perspective for figuring out what will work for you.

ReplyDeleteI also find Goodreads difficult to work with, one reason I had given up on their challenges. But I decided to try again with a challenge this year and keep on top of their numbers. LOL.
Goodreads started off as being where I wanted to track my TBR until my TBR got 1000 books high, so now I'm back to good ole' Excel. I find that I'm more intentional if I need to enter a book into the excel sheet as opposed to in GR. And yeah, GR is not very user-friendly, but then nothing can beat being able to read so many little details about a book when on GR.
ReplyDeleteWhen I started with Goodreads, I checked that thing about 4-5 times a day. Fast forward years later, and I may check it every 6 months which is pretty horrible(lol), so good for you for pulling it all together. ReplyDeleteI was floundering in Goodreads giveaway books on my to-read shelf, too, so I made a "zzz" shelf and then went to the "giveaways I've entered" page and moved all of the closed giveaway books to the zzz shelf and deleted them. The first clean out was a pain, but I plan to do this very couple of weeks from now on. 📚

ReplyDeleteI do use Goodreads to track my TBR list as well as what I've read. Even though my "to-read" and "someday" shelves are in the thousands (and need pruning), the first two pages of my "to-read" shelves are what I really need or want to read soon. I keep it that way by changing the number of the book. In other words, it may be #1106 when I add it to the list, but if it's an ARC I need to read, or a library book that has to go back, I will change the number to reflect where it is in the reading order. I don't always stick to that order religiously, but at least I can see the order in which I "should" read the books I have on hand, and make choices based on that. (Being a person who loves systems and has trouble sticking to them, I also keep a spreadsheet of my ARCs.)
Oh boy, I went through my GR TBR last year and it took days to go through what I still wanted to read and what I didn't. I hear ya on the pain part; I was frustrated b/c we should be able to batch delete what we don't want anymore. I do use GR very well for keeping track of what I want to read though. I deleted all my shelves b/c I felt it was too much for my eyes.
ReplyDeleteMy books aren't very organized on Goodreads, but I do use it to track my reading goals. The Office is sooo funny! I've watched the series through twice and I'm sure I'll watch it again some day. Enjoy your books! :)
ReplyDeleteI do use Goodreads a lot. I have shelves that I use for books that I have for review and shelves for books that I own (which is nowhere near complete). I also have a general dumping ground issue though. I hope you have a great time on your trip!
