Friday Linkups - Dreams of Falling

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
What do you think your blog says about you?

My Answer:
You know this isn't something I've really thought about before.  I like to keep things pretty simple and fuss free and I don't really enjoy messing around with the technical aspects which I suspect is pretty obvious.  Content-wise I suspect it says that I lean towards mysteries though I do enjoy a fairly eclectic mix of books.

This week's book is Dreams of Falling by Karen White.  Karen White is an author I've been wanting to read forever and I own several of her books but just haven't cleared the time in my reading schedule.  Recently I was offered a copy of her newest one and I figured that was a sign!  So far I'm enjoying it.

The Beginning:
I think I am dead.  Yet I smell the blooming evening primrose and hear the throaty chirps and creaky rattles of the purple martins flitting home across the marsh.

My Thoughts:
I can picture the scene so vividly though I do wonder why the narrator thinks she's dead.

The 56:
But nobody spoke.  My father looked down at his plate; Bitty shared a long glance with Ceecee, and I knew that I had just inserted a pin in the fragile eggshell of my mother's past.

My Thoughts:
Interesting.  It sounds like the mother has some serious skeletons in her past.

So what do you think?  Keep reading?

  1. I think Dreams of Falling sounds interesting and I love that cover. Will watch for what you think about it. As to what my blog says about me - well, I love my mountains in the picture at the top - that's from Ruidoso, New Mexico where we vacation often. So, I love mountains. And it says that I love books and that they are necessary to me. I love mostly mystery/crime novels. And I don't like to fuss about things. Clean and tidy - that's me. For me, your blog, Katherine, says that you and I would be able to talk books for hours if we were face-to-face. Right? LOL

  2. Great excerpts! I have been eagerly awaiting this one. I really like that part about the fragile eggshell of her mother's past.

  3. I've been seeing this book around. I hope you enjoy it. This week I have the latest in the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes historical mystery series - Island of the Mad by Laurie R. King. Happy reading!

  8. Well I'm definitely wondering why she thinks she's dead. I'd probably keep reading, but I also enjoyed my one experience reading some of Karen White's writing (The Forgotten Room, which she co-wrote with two other authors).

Have a great weekend. - Katie

  9. I think this week's BBH question is a really good one because it's not one that I've really thought about either. I think it's interesting to see the different ways that people have approached the question, as I didn't even consider what the design of my blog says about me rather than just the content.

That being said, I think your blog looks lovely and definitely does a great job of showcasing your love of literature.

Feel free to check out my own answer if you wish!

  10. Karen White is a new to me author, but her books seem to have been consistently awarded high ratings and reviews and some of the storylines I am quite keen to explore in more detail, so thanks for sharing and I hope that you enjoy the read!

If I was an outsider looking in at my blog, I would probably say that it possibly looks quite clinical and contrived. I guess that's just my OCD tendencies coming out! My technical skills are also sadly lacking and I rely quite a lot on hubbie for support and knowledge, when I get stuck.

I do hope that Fiction Books screams out loud and clear that I LOVE books, although I seem to spend all my time on promotional posts at the expense of full on reviews and, most importantly, actually reading!

I like to think that I make everyone welcome though and I hope that you have a good weekend :)
