Life with Leukemia, a Puppy, and Some Reading - July 17

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

A Streetcar Named Murder by T.G. Herren
- This is the first book in a new series set in New Orleans and featuring an antique store.  So excited about it! (Publisher)

Murder of a Mail-Order Bride by Mimi Granger - I enjoyed the first book in this series featuring a romance themed bookstore and am curious to see how the series develops (Publisher)

Dashing Through the Snowbirds by Donna Andrews - The newest book in a series I always enjoy and the Christmas mysteries are usually extra fun.  (Publisher)

Currently:

 Reading:
Point Last Seen by Christina Dodd and Unnatural Death by Dorothy L. Sayers

Listening: Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty

I've missed the last few Sunday Posts and have missed it!  Nothing major is going on just a series of little catastrophes and general mayhem.

Will is feeling great after a tough medical procedure and getting a stomach bug.  I swear he picks up something every time we go to the hospital.  Luckily this didn't involve a fever and we were able to keep the symptoms under control so we didn't have to go back to the hospital.  His energy level is great and we are just trying to keep his weight up.

Rover is now officially 9 months old and is now 70 pounds.  He graduated from Manners class on our second attempt and we are looking forward to moving on to other classes.  We will be doing another obedience class or two and then this fall move on to scent work classes and agility.

I've started volunteering at the dog club and am an assistant in puppy class which is so fun.  I always volunteered a ton at school stuff but dealing with dogs is way more fun.   I've had some issues with migraines and insomnia that have kept my commenting super regular but am looking forward to getting my visiting in this week.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. I miss having a dog. Your activity with puppy training sounds like lot of fun. I take a low dose of metanonin for insomnia, only every now and again as they say it can cause high blood pressure in high doses. Good luck to Will!

  2. I'm glad to hear Will is doing ok! It's been a long time since I've checked in with a lot of the "Sunday Posters" and I've been wondering. :)

Hope you have a good week and well done to Rover! Puppies are such hard work but when they nail their training it's awesome.

  3. Good news that Will is getting there. My son brings home germs from play dates and it takes me ages to get over them 😂

The books look good and I'm glad that you are enjoying dog related activities ☺️

    Have a great week.

  4. Glad to hear that Will is doing well, despite a bug hitting the past week. Hope your migraine stay away Katherine. Happy Rover is making progress with his classes as well. Hope you are enjoying Apples Never Fall on audio - I have the audio as well but haven't tried it yet.

  6. A Streetcar Named Murder sounds cute. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

  8. Hope you both are feeling better this week! I love the titles of cozy mysteries so much! I like that some rom-coms are starting to do punny titles too since that's more what I read. Have a great week!

  9. I hope you get to feeling better. Glad Will is gaining weight and things are going ok with treatment. That so long a treatment.
You left me a comment about the Jenny O'Brien books over on my book blog. This series is one I think you'll like. There are only 6 books, didn't know that until I finished this last book and the author made the annoucement. It's not a cozy mystery but it's not gory or gritty.

  10. It's great Will has continued to improve with just a few bumps. Take care of yourself too. 70lbs is too much for me. I like our 18 pound dog just fine! Pretty sure she eats less food than a big dog but since I make it from scratch it's probably more expensive anyway. She's worth it. I hope you all have a great week and feel well.

  12. Hi Katherine! Volunteering at the doggy training - now that can only be fun!

Christmas books already... Can't believe it! But this year I am going to read a few more Christmassy books.

We also have a puppy! Not a Labby again, a little Wirehair Terrier. She's definitely going to need puppy school as well. But she is adorably cute!!

Glad to hear Will is doing good.... Take care of yourself too!

  15. Dashing Through the Snowbirds, LOL! I live in a small town in Florida that more than doubles it's population every winter. It's very popular with the northern "snowbirds".

Glad Will is doing so good and pray that continues!

70lbs. that's a big dog! My dog weighs 9lbs. lol.

Sorry to hear about your issues with migraines and insomnia, hope they leave soon.

Volunteering with puppies sounds so much fun, I'd love to do that!

  16. I'm glad Will is doing well. :D I'm sorry he had a stomach bug. I can't imagine what it feels like to have Leukemia and then be sick with something like a stomach bug on top of it. I hope he continues to improve!

  17. I love that title Street Car named Murder with its play on the Street Car Named Desire! Fun. I bet those puppies are adorable and give you some light relief from all that you and Will are going through. Sorry about the insomnia - its a bugger and that's all that you can say. Take care.

  20. I fought migraines for 30 years until I hit menopause and they went almost completely away. I literally feel your pain. The dog club sounds awesome!

  22. Glad to hear that Will is weathering the latest glitches - even the relatively minor ones must be a worry... And yes - I can imagine that volunteering with the puppy class must be huge fun - I can't quite believe the rate at which Rover is growing. I hope the coming week is free of migraines and that you can get some blocks of solid sleep - I know that it makes all the difference!

  23. Poor Will. Stomach bugs are no fun at all. Glad he's feeling better. I hope your migraines and insomnia ease. How fun to volunteer with the pups. I'd prefer that to school as well (and I did that a lot when my kids were young).
