Hitting the Books - Cozy Mystery Review

Rating: Very Good
Source: Publisher

Description:
When a stack of library materials is found at the scene of a hit and run, library director Lindsey Norris finds herself dragged into the investigation as the police try to link the driver of the stolen car to the person who borrowed the books. Before Lindsey can delve into the library's records, the victim of the hit and run, Theresa Houston, suffers another "accident" and the investigation shifts from driver negligence to attempted homicide.

A clue surfaces in the confiscated library materials that could crack open the case and it is up to Lindsey to piece it all together. But things are not as they seem in the sleepy town of Briar Creek and when the driver of the stolen car turns up dead, Lindsey, her staff and her library friends have to hit the books before the murderer gets the last word...

Genre: Mystery - Cozy

Why I Picked This Book:  This has been on of my favorite cozy mystery series for years and I love the premise of this one!

My Impression:  This series has been a favorite since the very first book but the most recent books have just been an absolute delight!  The balance of non-mystery cozy life, straight up investigation, and bookish fun has just been perfect.  The mystery never takes a backseat but at the same time there is plenty of development in Lindsay’s life as well as the side characters.  I’ve especially enjoyed the recent thawing of Ms. Cole aka the Lemon.  She’s still lemon-y enough to be recognizable but her moments of niceness and the reactions of those around her is really a bit of a treat - especially for regular readers of this series.

While I always really enjoy a visit to Briar Creek the mystery here was what really kept me reading.  I really had no idea just how the story was going to develop so every plot twist was a surprise.  I read mostly mysteries so normally I’ve got a pretty good guess which way the wind is blowing so that made this an especially nice surprise.

If you’re looking for a fun cozy mystery with lots of bookish goodness then this is a must read!

Would I Read More of this Series/Author?  Absolutely!  This is one of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors.

Would I Recommend this Book?  If you enjoy cozy mysteries you really need to be reading this series!  While this is a fairly long running series I think you could start right here with no problems.

* I received this book in exchange for an honest review.  As always my opinions and impressions are completely my own. *

  1. It's great when you are still enjoying a series by book nine! I never mind how long a series gets if it keeps up the standard.

  2. I haven't read this author. The books sounds good and it's good to know you don't have to start at the beginning.
