Top Ten Tuesday - Books I Liked But Don't Remember

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic from That Artsy Reader Girl is Books I Liked But Don't Remember Much About.  This is definitely an issue that comes up frequently for me.  I read a lot of cozy mysteries and romances that have similar settings and they can blend together if they're not huge stand out reads.

1.  Love and Death in Burgundy by Susan C. Shea -  The cover and the setting are gorgeous and I remember liking it and thinking the setting was amazing but that's about it.

2.  Never Entice an Earl by Lily Dalton - I remember this was a quick read that I enjoyed but even the blurb doesn't trigger any memories.

3.  How Secrets Die by Marta Perry - I enjoyed this one enough to request another book in the series.

4.  Deep Dark by Laura Griffin - This one hurts a little as I really love Griffin's suspense and her Tracers series.  I know I loved this one but even the blurb doesn't bring back memories.

5.  Sea Glass Sunrise by Donna Kauffman - I'm not too surprised by this one.  I typically enjoy Kauffman's romances but there is rarely anything stand out about them.  Pretty much the only thing I remember here is that the heroine had slightly knobby knees.

6.  The Crime at Black Dudley by Margery Allingham - I've had terrible luck with Allingham's books.  They're kind of hit or miss for me and the ones that I enjoy don't seem to stick.

7.  One in a Million by Jill Shalvis -  This one hurts!  I love Jill Shalvis and I love the Lucky Harbor series but I remember nothing about this one.  I suspect one of the problems is that I was reading a bunch of books at the time and it just kind of got lost in the shuffle.  I'd really love to reread this series as a whole.

8.  Shadow Spell by Nora Roberts - I enjoyed this one but other than the fact that it's set in Ireland and there's some magic I got nothing.

9.  Murder on the Half Shelf by Lorna Barrett - I really like this series set in a town filled with bookstores but this one just didn't stick around in my memory.

10. Maybe This Christmas by Sarah Morgan - I don't know if this one got lost among all the other Christmas romances but whatever happened I remember absolutely nothing about this one!

What books did you enjoy but can't remember?

  1. You've been showcasing some awesome looking cozies lately! I think those covers just get better and better. Love and Death in Burgundy- love that one. The Lorna Barrett one sounds fun too.

  2. That happens to me too! If I read multiple books in the same genre close together or even binge read a series they end up fading into each other! The cover for Love & Death in Burgundy is super pretty though! Awesome list and happy reading :)

    My Top Ten Tuesday!

  3. I have Deep Dark on my Kindle...languishing. Maybe I should forget reading it, as it may not be that memorable? Thanks for sharing...

  4. I read the book before Shadow Spell (Dark Magic?) despite the fact I'm not a Nora Roberts fan. But the paranormal aspect + set in Ireland made me cave. Good book, but I don't remember much but the siblings and the cousin from America.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!

  5. I haven't read any of these books, but we do read so many it's hard to keep up with them!

  6. I am afraid many of the books I have read become blurred together, I am just supposing but I guess as long as we enjoy the experience at the time, that's what matters! Remembering knobbly knees is impressive!

  7. I think I might have read the Nora Roberts book or maybe the one before it? It was a trilogy, right? Yes, I went and looked - I read DARK WITCH and somehow, though Roberts' trilogies are some of my favorites, this particular one was not terribly gripping for me. Wonder if I should try it again?

  8. There are definitely some romances - especially in a series- that I find hard to remember too!

  9. I love love love Jill Shalvis, but a number of her books don't stick in my memory. I don't know why! Actually, I would say a lot of contemporary romance is like that for me.

  10. I have the same problem. So many good books and similar books make it hard to keep the details straight. My list would definitely be longer than 10.

  11. LOL it does hurt to add a Shalvis to the list. Some of hers definitely blurred for me. I know I enjoyed them but other than that...blank space. lol

  12. Love to help you remember these books but I haven't read them and I'm guessing you wouldn't recommend them either since they are, um, forgettable. My TTT Books I Don't Remember well

  13. It's so so awkward to love a book and then forget everything about it aghhhh. I feel so embarrassed because I end up recommending books and then when people say "what's it about" I have no idea.😂

  14. What a great topic! There are so many books I've loved, but I can't remember them when I think back about them. It's probably for the same reason as you - I like cozy mysteries and romances. Many of them have similar settings and storylines. So, they don't necessarily stand out.

  15. This topic is why I should reread more. But then I don't. lol

  16. Never a good sign when even the blurb doesn't stir up memories.

  17. I would probably be disturbed by what series and authors I would have to put on my list if I made one. But one thing I know, my memory is lousy so its' probably more an issue of that, for me, than that the book wasn't as good as I thought. :) Though, that said, there probably are a fair few that, once the emotional high wore off, weren't as good as I thought.

  18. I have forgotten so many books. I see Nora Roberts on your list. I have read quite a few of her books and remember none of them. I sometimes tell my husband that I really don't ever need to buy new books since I can re-read them and it is like a whole new story.

  19. That's how I feel about historical romances set in the same time periods...especially when all the male characters are dukes! It was very rare to have two young bachelor dukes...let alone three or four. Some of mine on my list I remember a hint of setting or some basic premise (mountain? ghost? time travel? cop?) but I really had a whole lot of nothing, too. I know one of them I really liked, but now thinking back on it I guess it didn't stand the test of time.

  20. I can see how reading a lot of similar stories would make it hard to remember specifics from each story.

Have a great week. - Katie

  21. I forget about books in the same genre too, since they are so similar. Especially now that I've got a lot of cozy mysteries involving food lol.

  22. I loved the first two Mara Dyer books, but there was about three years between the second and third book and I didn't remember enough to feel good about reading the last book without re-reading the first two. XD

  23. This happens a lot for me too with romance novels! Oh well.sometimes it's a good excuse to re-read ;)

  24. I started keeping a reading journal (and eventually blogging) to help jog my memory when it came to the books I read. It's helped so much. Though, there are still books I remember so little about--until I read my review. LOL

  25. Once upon a time I read LOTS of Marta's books. But alas, I remember next to nothing about them. I have heard really good things about Jill's books, but I've never really given them more than a cursory glance. Guess I'd best remedy this! :)

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.
