Friday Linkups - A Curious Beginning

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
Do you ever go back to older posts and change things?

My Answer:
No though I probably should.  I'm almost scared to go see some of my early mistakes!

This week's book is one I've been meaning to read since it first came out and since the third book in the series just came out it means it's been sitting on my TBR for quite some time!  A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn looks like it has a fantastic main character and Raybourn has never let me down when it comes to a mystery so my hopes are high and so far I'm loving it.

The Beginning:
I stared down into open grave and wished that I could summon a tear.

My Thoughts:
I'm wondering if this means that Veronica isn't really grieving whoever is in that grave or if she's just cried out or so sad that she is unable to cry.

The 56:
He took it from my had and swallowed deeply, then sputtered so hard he nearly choked.  "Good God, what the devil is that?"

My Thoughts:
Well now I kind of want to know what it is!  They're talking about different South American beverages so I'm very curious.

So what do you think?  Keep reading?

  2. I do not go back and change things at all. And, I've got this book on my Kindle and want to start the series at some point this year. Enjoy!

  3. I want to start this series also. It's been on my radar screen since it was first published--how can she be up to book 3 already? Seriously, I met Raybourn once or twice at publisher events and she is very nice.

  5. I don't go back and change things. I'm busy doing new posts instead. I really enjoy the Veronica Speedwell books. I have others by Raybourn on TBR mountain that I want to explore too. This week I have Final Siege by Scarlett Cole. Happy reading!

  7. Oh, this sounds very good. I'm trying to write a short story from this era. Maybe I should read it as "research." (I'll tell myself that).

The question about changing old blog posts is timely, because I was just thinking of visiting some of the posts from my oldest blog (2008) and refurbishing them.

  8. I agree! It is so cringe-y for me sometimes to go back and look at old posts. I hope you have a great weekend :)

  9. My reviews are better than they used to be...I definitely know that, but I don't look back on a regular basis.

I went back to delete some really old posts a few months ago and checked out a few of my reviews too - I didn't delete any reviews, though.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Katherine.

  14. I didn't keep my first, two blogs. I kind of wished I did. I'm going to try to save the current one before I move onto the new one.
She will make you laugh; this character is as blunt as it is.

  15. Haha. I'm embarrassed just thinking of my posts and reviews from my first few years of blogging. UGH.
Like you I should change them, but it's a terrifying thought to even think about trying to read them.

  16. If I happen to go back to an older post and find a mistake, I will correct it--but generally I don't unless I'm looking for something specific. I don't even want to think of all the errors I've missed! LOL

I really want to read A Curious Beginning too! It sounds so good!

  19. Veronica Speedwell! I think you are going to love this book, Katherine. I don't make changes to older posts either but some do make me cringe if I need to look at them.

  22. Hi Katherine,

I do enjoy a good classic murder / mystery when the mood takes me and Deanna is a new to me author.

Her earlier series 'Lady Julia Grey' is now so entrenched, that I would probably never catch up with events. However this new 'Veronica Speedwell' series sounds right up my street and is only three books in, so catching up is definitely doable!

I love this particular version of cover art and your two excerpts, together with an intriguing premise, would definitely make me keep reading :)

Every time there is an update to my Wordpress theme, something seems to not work in the same way, which renders some of my earlier posts, whilst not unreadable, not looking as good as they should ad of course, links do change or become broken, which is not good for SEO.

I don't have the time to revisit them all, however if I have occasion to make reference to an old post, or come across one by accident whilst searching for something else, I will endeavour to re-edit and bring it up to date.

Good question and some interesting responses to this week's question. Take Care and Happy Reading :)

    Yvonne

  26. Sometimes, but not all the time. To be honest, I really should because some of the featured images I have could be used against me for copyright issues. Writing-wise, I don't look back on my posts for that, because my writing back in 2014-2015 was so cheesy!! I like how I can see how much I've grown and explored more with the blog itself. But reading my own past work gives me such a weird feeling.
