Top Ten Tuesday - Bookish Resolutions

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl is Bookish Resolutions.  I have so many vague resolutions that it took awhile to kind of filter them down to 10 actual ones but I think it's so good to have a little bit of focus for just what I want to do in 2018 reading-wise.

1.  Read 200 Books - I've lowered my goal the last 2 years to try to read more classics and not get so caught up in the page count but this year I'm going for quantity!  I haven't had a 200+ book year since the Tornado was born and I'm hoping to fix that.

2. Complete the Modern Mrs. Darcy 2018 Reading Challenge - I'd really like to complete a reading challenge and the Modern Mrs. Darcy one looks not only fun but doable as well

3.  Create some kind of system for incoming books - Right now incoming books end up in a pile that ends up getting shoved somewhere.  I'd really love to create some kind of filing system

4.  Read more nonfiction - nonfiction is one of my favorite genres but one I've really neglected in the past year or so.  I've gotten a memoir in already this year and am working on another but would like to get more general nonfiction on my reading list.

5.  Focus on getting more of the books I own read - The last few years the books in number has far exceed the books out number and while I doubt that's going to change too much I'd like to make some progress on my shelves.

6.  Keep an eye out for independent bookstores - The town I live in doesn't really have any independent bookstores but I've really enjoyed the visits to really fun shops in other towns when we're traveling.  I'd like to make more of an effort to check into the local bookstores any time we travel.

7.  Make progress on series I've enjoyed but neglected - There are so many series of various genres that I've loved but have neglected in favor of newer shinier books.  I'd love to make an effort to get caught up.

8.  Participate in at least one readathon - Even if it's me just saying I'm going to try and read 24 hours staring Wednesday I want to try it.

9.  Spend some time using one of my coloring books while listening to an audio book - I have bought about a dozen different coloring books and have very rarely used them.  This will help me get my book count in, remind me to use some of the things just sitting around gathering dust, AND help with some de-stressing in.

10. Try out some new cookbooks - So this isn't really all that bookish but it does involve books but I got in the worst cooking rut over 2017 and I think a good cookbook binge my help break me out of it.

What are your bookish resolutions for 2018?

  1. I like your resolutions. Good luck with them! The coloring books while listening is a good plan. I tote my phone around almost everywhere and listen to a book a lot of the time. And I always look for bookstores wherever we travel. Such fun!

  3. Two hundred books is a lot for me. I meet that goal every year, but it's not because I set it as a goal. If I do, I feel too much pressure. Does that make sense?

Good luck to you. Noble goals.

  4. My town has a woeful lack of independent bookstores too. :( I'm also so impressed by anyone who's able to read 100-200 books a year. My mind boggles. I usually manage between 40 and 50, which seems SO paltry in comparison!!

  5. Such great resolutions!! Agree with a lot of these but love the idea of doing more coloring while listening to audiobooks and trying new cookbooks. Love me a cookbook! Good luck with these!

  6. Most of these could be my goals as well! I love non-fiction and would always be ready to give some recommendations! I also struggle with reading those "incoming" books, I just make piles, piles, and more piles. I recently re-organized my five-shelfer, but I have so many books that they are stacked two-deep and now that is full too so there are two smaller stacks on my reading end-table in my book corner. Ah, the life of a book worm. Good luck on your goals!

  9. Very laudable bookish resolutions. I'll be really interested to see what you read for the MMD reading challenge.

  10. I definitely want to try to read more books I either own, or books that have been on my TBR for ages (even if I don't own it). And 200 books! That's awesome! Go you!

  11. 200 books sounds amazing! Good luck with these. I love finding indie bookstores, and especially when traveling- it's often a highlight of the vacation (only a bookworm would say that, right)

  12. Great goals, Katherine! I especially like the one about coloring and listening to audiobooks. I should do that too. Good luck with your goals!

  13. These are all great goals! I don't know that I will be able to make it to 200 books for a few more years. Once the kid goes off to college maybe. I need to try to read more nonfiction myself.

  14. Great goals! You need a new book bookshelf, so you can put your new books that you need to read on it so they don't get lost. :)

  16. Love your list. Trying to keep track of incoming books is why I started participating in Mailbox Monday. They come in, I blog about them, and then I add them to my spreadsheet. At this point, I also need to add their location so I know where to find them. I'm with you on number 5 too.

Good luck with all your goals. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  20. Great resolutions! I second most of them, myself. Good luck with the classics club. I wish I could join in, but I know I'm more of a contemporary genre reader. I like Modern Mrs. Darcy. Will have to check out her challenge :)

  21. What a lovely set of bookish resolutions, Katherine. I particularly love the idea of taking part in a readathon - I've never done so and I really, really want to! Best of luck and I hope you have a wonderful 2018 reading year.

  23. I feel like I spend my life shuffling around review books that arrive, haha. They go on to my desk until I note down what month they're released in, etc and then they go onto my TBR shelf for immediate reading but sometimes that's full and I have to find somewhere else for them. And then there are the ones that arrive months in advance. It's a system that I've never really been able to sort out.

  24. I'd like to participate in a readathon this year as well. Wishing you lots of luck with all your goals!

  25. 200 books is my goal, too. It has been for a long time and I've never managed to reach it. I feel like this is our year, though -- we'll both hit 200, right?? Good luck to us!

  26. I'd like to read more of the books that have patiently been sitting on my shelf for all the months - and in some cases, years. They're always pushed aside in favor of review copies kindly sent to me by publishers and authors. But this year, I would like to randomly pull some books off the shelf now and again. :)

Good luck with your 2018 goals.

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.

  27. I really should read more nonfiction, too. I am horrible at it. I also did the same thing when I bought two coloring books two Christmases ago. I haven't touched them since. Coloring while listening to and audiobook (or working in my bullet journal) seems like a great solution!

  28. My book situation gotten so bad that my son has been begging me to get off my butt and buy some new bookcases. I just hate having to sit down and comparison shop. Ha ha. I don't have room to entertain here, so last week I packed away my goid glassware and candle sticks, and put books in my china cabinet and curio case. XD
