Reasons My Kid is Crying - Review

Reasons My Kid is Crying by Greg Pembroke

I've seen the blog this book is from a few times and it never fails to make me laugh.  So when the Tornado had his 912th meltdown for the day as I was looking at the books Blogging for Books had for review this one jumped out at me.  It had been one of THOSE days when the meltdowns were frequent and increasingly illogical.  The cover made me laugh and I hit request then and there.

The concept is incredibly simple.  Pictures of a small child in the midst of an epic meltdown with a sentence underneath explaining why the epic meltdown is occurring. The reasons are completely illogical - everything from being told happy birthday to not being allowed to eat rocks - but will ring true to anyone who has ever dealt with the preschool set.

While I'm not sure this would be a book I would buy for myself this would be a fantastic little book to tuck into a baby shower gift or for anytime you need a little something extra for a new parent.  It gives you something to laugh about when your dealing with meltdown 912 for the day!

  1. I've seen this blog, too - or at least memes from it, on Facebook. And laughed and laughed, because boy, do I remember those days. Sorry to hear the Tornado is having meltdowns; I know they're no fun. But at least, with several teens/young adults, you have the consolation this time of knowing that the meltdown stage will pass eventually. Hang in there -- and go fix yourself a nice cup of tea. (Or maybe a glass of wine!)

    1. He's actually not too bad generally but that was one of those days where he hadn't had enough sleep and everything just kind of hit at once. Having teenagers definitely does help because your perspective is so much better! I appreciate him being little so much more because I see how quickly he won't be! And yeah lots of tea (and maybe a little wine)

    2. Even the best-natured kid had those days occasionally! Lack of sleep will do it every time. Also, for our daughter, sensory overload. I couldn't take her shopping for years, because the visual overload in the stores was just too much for her.

  2. Funny cover and premise. Even though I don't even have grandchildren that young (my youngest grandkid in kindergarten) I have been there, done that. Had a colicky baby and thought I would never escape that 3 month period of my life. And then suddenly one day I realized it wasn't happening. It was a gradual ease-up, not dramatic, but my life was infinitely happier afterwards. You're right-- great extra gift for a baby shower.

    1. You're right it's definitely a gradual thing. The Tornado had colic though nothing to dramatic and I don't remember it really stopping it's just one day it was gone.

  3. My niece is 4 months old, so far the only child amongst my sisters and I (not that I am ever having one. Love kids, just don't want my own.) I am thinking this would be a fun gift to give her in the next couple of years. I have a background in Birth-Kindergarten education. I have seen kids throw tantrums for the craziest reasons!

    1. My sister-in-law has the same kind of attitude. She loves kids and is the best babysitter on the planet but at the end of the day she doesn't want to take them home with her! I think this would definitely be a fun gift for your sister in the next year or so! There are so many times temper tantrums happen and it's all I can do not to say "are you serious?"

  4. Oh don't you just love the meltdowns. I have a 4 year old and some days I just can't handle the meltdowns over nothing. Aaarrrgghhhh.
I wouldn't buy a book like this but I agree that it would make a good baby shower gift, especially if it's their first child.

  5. I haven't seen the blog itself, but memes featuring some of the photos and comments. They are pretty funny.

We've had our share of meltdowns whose reasons are unknown to us. Or at least make no sense. Some are laugh worthy and others are not so much.
