It's Friday! Time to link up with the Book Blogger Hop over at Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice.
Today's Blogger Hop Question is:
"How many bookcases do you have and are they all in one room or different rooms?"
My Answer:
I have 3 floor to ceiling bookcases - 2 in the living room, 1 in my bedroom. I have a half bookcase in the back of the pantry for cookbooks and another half bookcase in my bedroom that I use as a nightstand. There's some shelves built into the kitchen island that have cookbooks. I also have books in a few under the bed boxes but I don't suppose those count! I have plans to turn one of the kid's bedrooms into a reading room once they have their own place and I intend for that to be all bookcases.
So now that it's almost time for a fall TBR I figured I should read a book off my summer TBR! This is one of my favorite series. I love the apple orchard talk and the old house talk and Sheila Connolly's writing in general.
The Beginning:
"Meg Corey awoke before 7 a.m. to the sound of Seth Chapin's cell phone ringing, and she wasn't happy about it."
The 56 though actually from page 55 because there was nothing usable on page 56:
":Then he stood up,brushed his knees, and returned to where Meg and Set were standing. "At the risk of making a poor joke, here is your corpse."
"And is it...?" Meg asked.
"I'm afraid so," Christopher replied."
So what do you think? Keep reading?
I always love looking at people's bookcases! I have 8--at least one in every room except the bathrooms. You can tell a great deal about someone by examining their bookcases . . . :-)
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree about other people's bookcases. That's what I'm always drawn to when I go to people's houses. I don't have nearly enough bookcases at the moment but I'm hoping to fix that.
DeleteI love the sound of Golden Malicious...I have another book by this author. Yours has a lovely cover.
ReplyDeleteI have books all over my house, too; even in the bathroom and pantry!
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I really enjoy Connolly's mysteries. I've read the apple orchard and the museum series and the first in the Irish series. I don't have a bookcase in the bathrooms yet but that's only a matter of time!
DeleteI have books hidden everywhere in my house.
ReplyDeleteMe too! There pretty much everywhere.
DeleteMost definitely keep reading.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 large and 2 small bookcases in my LR, 2 large set of built-in shelves in GR, 3 bookshelves in office, one shelf in the kitchen and a few stacks here and there. LOL They are everywhere. LOL

I'm the same way. I ran out of bookcase space awhile ago and now I'm just sticking them places. It drives my husband crazy!
DeleteWow, that page 56 is a good one! I love the bookcase bit too. I have 6 regular size, 5 shelves tall bookcases, and one that is tall and skinny that houses my TBR books. One of the other ones also has TBR books on the bottom shelf as well. I also have books sitting on the bottom of my TV stand and two bags of books from BEA sitting on my steps to go upstairs.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Friday 56
I'd like to have more bookcases but right now it's not possible. One day though! Until then I'll just cram books into every corner available. I enjoy Connolly's mysteries. They generally have some historical element to them.
DeleteClever title and cover. This sounds like a fun cozy.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link to my Friday post: Beach House Memories.
I enjoy her books. They're not perfect but they're always fun.
DeleteI've read some of Sheila Connolly's books but not this one. I'll have to add it to my list for my next library visit.
ReplyDeleteThis is the newest in the Apple Orchard series. I'm looking forward to really sitting down to read it!
DeleteThe book cover is certainly inviting and both the book beginning and Friday 56 give a sense that this read is full of adventure and mischief; something I would read for sure :)
ReplyDeleteSparrow's BB & The Friday 56
I enjoy this series. It has it's flaws but something about it always keeps me reading!
DeleteI like the looks and the sound of Golden Malicious. ENJOY!!
ReplyDeleteWow on your bookcases. Floor to ceiling ones sounds great.
I have my link to the book beginnings below. Stop by the blog hop if you like too while you are there.

My Book Beginnings
I like Connolly's mysteries. They're definitely cozy but they're comforting. I'm hoping to turn one of the kid's bedrooms into a room with all bookcases one day but that will be awhile!
DeleteI'm not even going to mention how many bookcases I have. Golden Malicious sound like a good one, definitely keep reading!
ReplyDeleteI really need more. I've kind of gotten to the point where I'm sticking books in every nook and cranny.
DeleteHi Katherine,
ReplyDeleteAbout four years ago, I had a semi enforced blitz of several hundred books, which were picked up by a local charity. Promising at the time, never to let it get so bad again, I really did try .... Back to today, when there are bookcases and bookshelves all over the house, with books stacked two or three deep in most cases and a husband who has all but admitted defeat, as he really has no idea just where all the books are hidden!!
I am veyr much a morning person, generally getting up way before 5am, so 7am is definitely not early for me!! The only time you expect to get woken by the phone though, is if there is bad news.
As you mentioned an apple orchard, perhaps your 56 lines could have something to do with that, although I can't think what.
This is probably too sweet and syrupy a story for my taste, but thank you so much for sharing and of course, I hope that you enjoy the read.
I wish I could get up earlier but I'm not good at it. I do find when I get up before everyone else and have time to drink my coffee in peace it's better for everyone so I try to do that. 5AM is still the middle of the night in my world though! I'm impressed!
DeleteWe got rid of a ton of books when we moved a few years ago but I regret getting rid of some of them (even though most likely I still wouldn't have read them! I am trying to be more careful on my buying since the library near me is very good. That doesn't count for ebooks of course!
This is definitely a cozy. It's less sweet and syrupy than many but it's still a cozy. I do enjoy them but they're definitely not for everyone!
(grins in embarrassment) We have something like 21 bookcases in the house. 5 in my study/office/library, 2 in the living room, 1 in the kitchen/dining room, 3 in our daughter's room, and 10 downstairs (if you count the 2 that are just concrete blocks holding up shelves - but they're each about 6 shelves high.) I could open a bookstore - if I could bear to give them up. Actually, I have started to prune; I culled about 35 books from my own children-and-YA collection today.
ReplyDeleteAs for the book, I keep meaning to try Sheila Connolly's mysteries. Do you like them?
We pruned a lot when we moved and now I'm just trying to be selective in my buying. Ebooks of course don't count because they're invisible. I'm coveting the bookcases in my kids' rooms as well as their wall space. When the older 3 move out it's go time for bookcase buying!
DeleteI do like Sheila Connolly. They're not perfect but I always enjoy her settings and characters. There's generally a history tie in which of course gets me every time. She has 3 and I think the one set in Ireland is a little better done but I enjoy them all.
Gorgeous cover art and this one sounds wonderful. I'd stay with it! I love my book cases in the great room, bedrooms and in every nook.
ReplyDeleteI definitely wish I had more. I have piles in every nook but not bookcases yet!
DeleteI have 3 bookcases as well, all in my office. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the looks and sounds of that cozy too!
Happy weekend!
This is a fun cozy and it always makes me want apples! Way better than books that make want cookies!
DeleteSo is "it" something good or bad? now I want to know.
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten there yet but I'm pretty sure it's bad. I'm not sure how bad but definitely not good!
DeleteI'm hooked on the book. Sounds fun and sarcastic with interesting characters and how can I resist that cover.
ReplyDeleteI have two bookcases in my living room, two in the guest room, four in my bedroom and lots of books on my closet shelves. And I need more as the ones in my living room are now full too! LOL
This is a fun series and for the most part I really love the characters. It's definitely a cozy though.
DeleteI definitely need to get more bookcases as mine have taken overcrowded to who new limits! Sounds like you have quite the collection! Is there a such thing as enough bookcases though?
Oops. Forgot to leave my 56 link - http://fuonlyknew.com/2014/09/05/the-friday-56-35-cursed-a-guardian-chronicles-novel-by-trakena-prevost/
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've made a dent in my summer TBR list at all. I love the title for this one! Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one! I know the Top Ten fall TBR list is coming up and I'm not sure I've read 1 off my summer list!
DeleteI've only read the Irish series by Sheila Connolly, but an apple orchard is a small slice of heaven, so I might like these. When we lived in the northeast we used to go apple picking every year.
ReplyDeleteI think the Irish series is her best but I do still love the orchard series. There tends to be a bit of history in each book and all the apple talk is lovely. Makes me want apples which is way better for me than books that make me want cupcakes!
DeleteI've been wanting to read this series for a long time. This sounds so good!
ReplyDeleteI think you'd like it Yvonne. It's a fun series and I really like Meg.
DeleteI have 10 bookcases - 4 in the living room, 1 in the kitchen, 1 in the office, and 4 in the bedroom. Plus books in the bath but they are stacked. :D
ReplyDeleteI read a book from this series and it did nothing for me. I struggled to finish it.
I can see why it wouldn't work for you. Somehow Connolly manages to hit the right buttons for me and I find that I always enjoy her books.
DeleteI crave more bookcases and at some point it'll happen just not anytime soon!
Hmm, I have a 3 story home and have 3 bookcases 6 shelved in lower level. 2 on main floor and 2 desks with built in bookshelves on the sleeping floor. All are filled and I just said to my husband I need more bookshelves. If we ever hit the lottery or when we downsize I am turning one room into a library with all the walls as floor to ceiling bookshelves. :snort:
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the library plan though I intend to turn one of the kid's bedrooms into it. I have it all designed in my head. Emma keeps telling me I can't change her room until she officially moves out but I'm not sure I can wait that long!
DeleteYou had me at "Here is your corpse ..." hahaha!
ReplyDeleteGolden Malicious sounds like a fun read!
ReplyDeleteI have bookcases in just about every room! My living room is my library--it's got eight full sized bookcases and three half sized bookcases. In the loft area, there are four small bookcases and two big bookcases. One bookcase in my daughter's room. Two big bookcases in the spare bedroom. One shelf in the kitchen (dedicated to cook books). One bookcase in the family room. I don't have a bookcase in my bedroom--but I do have stacks and a drawer full. I think that's it.
