My 2019 Library List

One of my very favorite things is wandering the shelves of my local library and picking up al the books that appeal to me.  Some of these are new and some are older and the hype has ranged from high to nonexistent.  There's really no rhyme or reason to this list other than they appealed to me and I'd like to read them this year!

1.  The Bar Harbor Retirement Home for Famous Writers (and their muses) by Terri-Lynn DeFino - I know absolutely nothing about this one other than I like the cover and the title.

2.  Echoes of Evil by Heather Graham - I've heard some mixed reviews for this one but I enjoyed the previous two books in this trilogy that's part of the Krewe of Hunters series but I still have to read it!

3.  The Good House by Ann Leary - This book was everywhere when I first started blogging about 5 years ago and I really planned on reading it.  This is the year!

4.  Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover - I heard some really great buzz about this one and my library got it on audio so I figure that's a sign that I need to read it.

5.  First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen - I love Sarah  Addison Allen's books and try to read one every summer.  I'm planning on this one being my summer read this year.

6.  The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith - I really liked the first book in the series once I got into it and am looking forward to continuing the series.

7.  Good Luck with That by Kristan Higgins - I've really enjoyed Higgins' more women's fiction titles so I need to get to this one soon.

8.  Hitler's Art Thief: Hildebrand Gurlitt, the Nazis, and the Looting of Europe's Treasures by Susan Ronald - I love art theft kind of books and this sounds right up my alley.

9.  The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - I've been hearing raves about this one for ages but somehow never got to it but just noticed my library has it on audio.

10. The Year of Eating Dangerously: A Global in Search of Culinary Extremes by Tom Parker Bowles - I know nothing about this one but I haven't read a foodie book in awhile and the title sounds pretty fun!

What books are you hoping to pick up from your library this year?

  1. Looks like a nice eclectic mix. The Bar Harbor cover makes me want to sit right down in a library somewhere and read for the next 5 hours. :)

  2. I'm familiar with some of these and will check out the others.

  3. I don't use our library. The books are many years out of date and if you request that they add a book, you have to pay a fee. I'd rather just buy or download them!

  4. That was the way that I used to be in the library in days past - way past. It was relaxing and fun and economical (very important for me at that time). Things are a bit different now, but I still find peace and satisfaction in the library. I love shelving books as a volunteer and that's a good way to see what is available.

From your list I've read The Silkworm (so good and the two after it) and Good Luck With That. I discovered that I loved Kristan Higgins most recent books a couple of months ago and read 4 of them one right after another. I'd most likely like her earlier books as well.

  5. I never thought to roam it and look for books I want to read during the year and one day I might. In the meantime so many books...! I usually search online for the new books coming out and reserve them, especially when I have read good reviews for them. But I do love going to the library to pick them up, but usually I say to myself " must close my eyes, mustn't look, too many books to read!".

  6. Educated was wonderful. I feel awful for the author, though. I watched a live book event Q&A with her on Facebook and she has the demeanor of someone who has had every last molecule of happiness sucked out of them. Her sadness was like an aura. 😢

The Night Circus is on my library list this year, too, except that means Hoopla for me. I'm glad my library subscribes because the no waitlist streaming is fantastic and they have a lot of audios. 👍✨

    Happy New Year! 🎉

  8. Sometimes if I feel like shopping, I just go to the library. I love looking and it's free. I have had the audiobook for The Night Circus for years. I need to get to it soon.

  9. I have Good Luck with That and First Frost...tucked away on Paige, my Kindle.

I hope you enjoy The Good House as much as I did. I had read that it was being made into a movie, but the time came and went. I guess it didn't happen. I would have loved to see it.

    Thanks for sharing.

  10. I really liked THE NIGHT CIRCUS. I've heard so many good things about EDUCATED that I bought it the other day. My book club is reading it in January, so I'll be interested to see what we all think of it.

  11. Oh yeah, *slaps forehead* I need to continue J.K. Rowling's mystery series. I like the cover of the first book. I added that to my TBR and my library has a Kindle copy. Educated is on my TBR also. I didn't read too many memoirs &/or nonfiction last year.
