This Week in Reading - April 8

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Shadow Dancing by Julie Mulhern - This cozy mystery series set in the 1970s has been a favorite since the very first book so of course I had to request this latest one!  (NetGalley)

Rare Books Uncovered: True Stories of Fantastic Finds in Unlikely Places by Rebecca Rego Barry - I love books set around treasure hunts and treasure hunts involving books sounds even better! (NetGalley)

Rockets' Dead Glare by Lynn Cahoon - I will read anything Lynn Cahoon writes but her Tourist Trap series is my favorite so there was no way I was passing up this novella! (NetGalley)

Currently:

Reading:  Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie and Hero's Return by B.J. Daniels

Listening:  The Cruelest Month by Louise Penny.  I really enjoyed the previous books in the series but this one is falling a bit flat for me.

Watching:
I'm almost done with my binge of the true crime show Disappeared about missing persons cases.  On a happier note I've been catching up on The Voice and enjoying it.

Off the Blog:

I spent the night at Eleanor's one night this week to let her and husband sleep while I took care of the baby.  He's a darling and was easy to take care of but I forgot just how little sleep 2 week olds get!  I thought I was doing great off of the 2 hours I got until about 4 the next afternoon when I was just done!  It was totally worth it though and I'm hoping they ask for my help again!

Saturday (yesterday) we're heading down to Birmingham to celebrate Emma's 21st birthday with her.  The weather is going to be terrible so we're stuck with indoor stuff but there's an indie bookstore I'm hoping to get to and there's a few other fun shops on my list.

Next week I'm heading out of town to visit my grandparents for a few days and am looking forward to it.  It's been a couple of months since I've been able to get down there and while I check in by phone pretty regularly it isn't the same.  I'm looking forward to warmer temperatures for a few days!

  2. Awwwww, I'm glad that things went well with the baby (even if you didn't get much sleep). Have a great time with your grandparents! I've been wanting to visit mine, but I need to wait for some of the snow to melt first. I hate driving in it, lol. Have a good week! :)

  4. Ooh Shadow Dancing. I just saw that one recently and was happy to see another Country Club Murders. Those books are so good! Love that cover too.

Have a great week, happy b-day to your daughter and hopefully your weather improves! I think we all need a warm up at this point, it seems so cold most places this spring!

  6. Yes... I remember the newborn stage with the grandchildren, too. There's no tiredness quite like it, is there? But - as you say - marvellous as well. Have a great week, Katherine and hope it warms up soon for you.

  7. I read one of the Tourist Trap books this past summer and I really enjoyed it. I'll have to check out the novella. The cover of Shadow Dancing is also adorable. I'm glad to hear you had such a good time helping with the baby. That's too bad about the weather, but hanging out at a bookstore is always a great place to spend a crummy day. Have a great week!

  9. Happy Birthday to Emma!
It's so awesome to hold and cuddle babies but that not sleeping thing is rough! ;) My mom stayed with me a couple days when my kids were little so I could sleep. It was a big help. I am sure they will ask again! :)

I hope you have a nice week, Katherine! Enjoy your visit with your grandparents! Happy Reading! ox

  22. I well remember the nights as a new (and largely sleepless) mum, for all that they were over two decades ago, so I'm quite sure Eleanor appreciated the help... and equally sure you deserved a nap the next day! Rare Books Uncovered sounds fascinating—I can't wait to see what you think of it! And I had missed the arrival of the Lynn Cahoon book on NetGalley; I just requested it. Enjoy your visits with Emma and your grandparents, and have a great week.

  23. I kept my niece and nephew who are twins overnight when they were about 3 months old. My husband had to get up and help since there were 2 of them. We figured out quickly that we are really out of practice. It is worth losing a few hours of sleep though. I hope you have a great week and enjoy celebrating Emma's birthday.

  24. Aw, I bet they appreciated that a lot!

A Cozy Mystery set in the 70s sounds really interesting. Hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week!

    1. And I think that was the first book I've ever read of Jill Shalvis. It was good. I was almost reminded of maybe Kristen Hannah's work or Robin Carr?

  27. Shadow Dancing is also a 70's song from Andy Gibb (I was a fan!!).I don't think I have read that Agatha Christie, and I love her books!! Nice week!!

  30. Awe, a 2 week old! I would trade sleep for some time with a newborn. Glad you got to do that. I am sure they appreciated it, and you did too. Indie book store visits are great. I hope the shop is awesome and that you and Emma find something cool. Have a great trip and happy reading!
