This Week in Reading - March 15

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Deception by Gaslight by Kate Belli - I love historical mysteries and I love jewel thieves so how could I resist? (NetGalley)

Currently:

Reading:  A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles and A Forgotten Murder by Jude Deveraux

Listening:  Still listening to The Storm Sister by Lucinda Riley.  I'm really enjoying it but didn't have much listening time this week.

Watching:  We just started watching Grantchester and are really enjoying it.  I know we're a bit late to the party but late is better then never!

Off the Blog:

We had a fairly quiet week.  I haven't been feeling very well (allergies and my usual headache issues) and this time change kills me EVERY single year.  I know most people hate the time change in the fall where we fall back but I love that one!  It gets dark earlier which just feels cozier.  This whole losing an hour of sleep thing makes me groggy and sleepy and grumpy for about a month.

And then of course we went on Corona virus watch.  I mean obviously it's been a topic of conversation and concern for quite some time but the news of the first case in Tennessee broke Wednesday and then the first case for us in Alabama showed up Friday.  And of course everything is closing and cancelling. It doesn't really change things too much for us as the Tornado is home schooled.  He has a couple of classes he takes that are cancelled for now and some of the regular activities won't be happening for awhile but our day to day lives will pretty much remain the same.  One of the few things still open here is the library and while they have cancelled all gatherings they are still open, have increased the number of times you can renew things, and have increased the number of items you can have out at at time.  I've always liked our library but now I have all kinds of warm fuzzy feelings.  Other then runs to the library to pick up holds and runs to the grocery store for supplies we are staying put.  My husband can fairly easily work from home (and it looks like his company is going to start requesting everyone who can do so) so that will take some getting used too but it'll be fun.  I don't have any real health problems but the last few years I've gotten sick very easily and have a hard time getting over everything so I'm taking no chances.

I hope everyone is taking home, staying safe, and staying healthy.

  1. I'm not a fan of the time change either. It always seems to screw up my internal clock! And yes best not to take chances... everything is so uncertain right now. Our library closed, we found out today when we stopped by to drop some books off, but can probably still do some online things. And going to the store wasn't much fun lol. Lots of stuff gone...

Take care this week and be well!

  2. Yes sounds very sensible. Things are beginning to tighten up here and I've decided I'll stay home as much as possible. Everything is open but I'll only go if I really need to. We haven't had our time change yet, maybe the end of the month.

  3. Katherine, I love the time change as I love the brighter mornings, but sympathise because the loss of an hour knocks me about and I do like a cosy, dark evening. With the current issues, I hope you and loved ones stay safe, healthy and happy. Great to hear your library is still open - Not much has closed here in the UK, yet!

  4. How nice that the library has increased the books that you can take out and are staying open. My dad and I have asthma and my uncle has chronic lung disease so I can sit and worry about all that. I'm only going out for supplies and this might be the last week I'm doing it. My dad is also doing a few errands this week and then I want him to stay home too.

Our clock change comes at the end of the month and I hate losing that precious hour in my bed!!! It leaves me tired and grumpy until my body adjusts!

  5. Staying in sounds sensible and inviting right now. I have been cancelling all my plans and staying too!

I hope you have a great week ahead.

  6. I need to get to A Gentleman in Moscow at some point. I enjoyed Rules of Civility when I read it.

  7. I'm with you on the time change. I'm waking up later now and it's putting a big dent in my day. I'm usually such an early bird.
I hope you're enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow! That's on my TBR for this year! :)
    Happy reading! Stay safe!

  8. Our library smells like a hospital it's been lysoled so much but it was still open at least the last time I was there. I haven't seen anything about it closing but maybe I should check their facebook page! I do have books out.

We still gather at Hardee's every morning for breakfast with our friends until they decide to close the lobby. Hope it doesn't happen. It's a crazy madhouse trying to just buy everyday grocery items and I still don't get the run on toilet paper!

That new book you got looks great! I love a good historical mystery too!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  9. I’m late to the Grantchester show as well, love the cover of the Kate Belli book.
Our libraries and all schools are closed. I was getting close to get a few books and movies but no one is getting anything!

Hope you get to feeling better. This time of year the pollen kills me

  10. We were notified yesterday that the first confirmed case has occurred in our county. It has caused everything to shut down here. Our library is still open. I love the idea that the numbers of books able to be checked out has been raised.

  13. We're happy to stay home also. My daughter has spring break this week and then they are going to online classes for 2 weeks. I think it might be longer because I think it will get much worse before it gets better but we will see. I always do a ton of ebooks and digital audio from the library so I don't need the building to be open.

Stay safe and healthy! Enjoy your new reads!

  14. I work from home already so not much changes for me either. My kids are out of school for the rest of the month so that is a major change for them but I think they will handle it pretty well. I put a bunch of holds in at the library that I'm really hoping come in soon just in case it has to close (not like I don't have more than enough to read but still....) :) :)

  15. I like staying home. I work in a tiny office with 3 other people but we have a large building so I am not really near anyone else for most of the day. My husband works for the local library system so I am curious if they will shut down eventually. My daughter has been dealing with a lot of changes and is a bit down about it but safety comes first. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  16. I HATE DST! Ugh. I like my sunshine in the mornings. Too many people think it's why it starts getting lighter in the evenings, why do they not know it would happen anyway? 😏

We buy paper products in bulk to save money, so I wasn't worried about the TP thing, but that was when I thought the quarentine was going to be three weeks not six weeks. All paper products, even dinner napkins, are gone here, ha ha. I told Baz to look and see if there are still coffee filters. 😂

Have a wonderful, and healthy, new week. 🌞

  18. Like you, I'm happy to fall back, but springing forward is no fun!

Our libraries are closed, but they're leaving the drive-through pick up open for now, so people still have access to books. :-)
