Books from the Backlog - The Haunted Lady

Today I'm linking up with Carole from Carole's Random Life of Books for Books from the Backlog.  I really enjoy the chance to feature a book that's been hiding in the piles of books for far too long!

Goodreads:  The Haunted Lady by Mary Roberts Rinehart

Blurb:  Eliza Fairbanks may be old, but she's hardly senile. So when she claims to have found bats in her bedroom and arsenic in her strawberries, Miss Pinkerton is quickly assigned to investigate. It doesn't take the shrewd nurse-detective long to discover that Mrs. Fairbanks is quite sane after all—and quite dead!

Why It Needs to Come Off the Shelf:  I've read a few books by this author years ago and don't really want to remember much about them.  I picked this one up at a used bookstore not that long ago and need to read it because I'm considering trying to collect all her books.  I figure I should see if I like her before buying 30 books.

  1. I hope you end up liking this! There are times when I so much want to love a series due to great covers and friend reviews-it's great when you do love it!

  2. Oh, how my mom loved her gothic novels. I bet she read this one five times.

  3. LOL, I've collected huge piles of a series before even reading one, but you are right to try it out before going too far with getting them. I love the old-style suspense cover.

  4. Oh yes! You certainly need to check out whether you enjoy her writing before setting to and getting more of her books! Happy reading, Katherine:)

  8. It would probably be a great idea to see if you like her writing before collecting all of her books. Of course, I have collected before reading many times so there's that. It definitely sounds like a promising read.
