Friday Linkups - Hitting the Books

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
What author do you not read and why?

My Answer:
There aren't many authors I really consciously avoid.  I haven't read much Stephen King partly because watching Pet Semetary as a child caused some trauma and party because his page count scares me off but it's not a set thought that I'm NOT going to read him.  Probably the only author I find myself avoiding is Jodi Picoult.  I've only read one of her books (the one with the little girl who had the illness that caused her bones to break easily) and the ending made me SO mad that I've avoided her books ever since.

This week's book is the latest in the Library Lovers series - Hitting the Books by Jenn McKinlay.  I've always really enjoyed the series and the bookish elements but I absolutely loved the last one so I'm  super excited about this one!

The Beginning:
He was whistling.  At five o'clock in the morning, the man was whistling.

My Thoughts:
She isn't talking about the person who will be the murder victim but whistling that early in the morning seems like the beginnings of a justifiable homicide to me.

The 56:
"All right," Lindsey said  "I understand how you're feeling but I don't think you should go alone."

My Thoughts:
Really no one should go anywhere alone in any book, show, or movie that involves murder.  It always ends badly.

So what do you think?  Keep reading?  Any authors that you absolutely won't read?

  1. Happy Friday! I've never read King either, but it's more a matter of me not wanting to with him. I like a good suspenseful read, maybe even a creepy one on occasion, but not actual horror usually and his stuff has kinda always freaked me out.

McKinlay's books, on the other hand, look super fun!

  2. There are a lot of authors I won't read but that is mostly to do with the genres they write or the tropes they continually use. If I read and hated a book I'd probably not read their other work. Examples of this are Patrick Ness, Philip Pullman, Douglas Adams, him that wrote Pretties which I despised. I avoid Seanan McGuire as I've DNFed every series of hers I tried.

  3. Ah yes, Pet Semetary creeped me out too. But I like a big fat book. I read his book 11/22/63 and that was a tome, I'll tell ya. I'm a fan of series and I like a big page count, really gets me invested in the book. Of authors I don't care much for it's usually a sci-fi author.

  6. No one should be whistling, much less talking at 5 in the morning. I am looking forward to reading Hitting the Books! Even some of Stephen King's big books read pretty fast, but size can be intimidating. It's stopped me from reading a few other books I would eventually like to dive into. I can think of a couple authors off the top of my head whose work I avoid reading. One of them wrote one of my favorite books. I can't bring myself to read anything else by her now that I know something of her history. While I try to separate art from the artist, there are some things I just can't bring myself to look past. Child molestation being a big one.

I hope you have a great weekend!

  7. I don't like really long books anymore, but I have read a few of them, including some Stephen King. But I prefer other books these days. Thrillers, Mysteries, Cozies...all of 400 pages or less. LOL.

This one sounds good. Thanks for sharing.

  11. I don't think there's a specific author I wouldn't read - more so the genre that they write. Stephen King's books are chunksters!!

    Enjoy this book!
