What I Got:
Death at the Emerald by R.J. Koreto - I haven't heard much about this series though the detective's name (Lady Frances Ffolkes) does sound familiar. Regardless, this historical mystery into a 30 year old missing persons case sounds like a mystery I just can't resist! (NetGalley)
Cold as Ice by Julie Mulhern - This is the newest in one of my favorite cozy mystery series! I didn't even look at the blurb. As soon as I saw the author's name I just clicked request. I can't wait to read it! (NetGalley)
The Stolen Marriage by Diane Chamberlain - I haven't had much luck with this author in the past but the blurb on this one really caught my eye. The main character works in a polio ward (it's set in the 1940s) and I just recently had a discussion with my Grandmother about polio and the devastation it inflicted on the community so I'm curious to see this from a fictional angle. Listening: I'm still listening to podcasts but I'm on the wait list of A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas which I should be getting soon.
Watching: I've been on a bit of a movie watching binge while I'm trying to clear off some of the huge amount of movies I've recorded but never watched. The bulk of which are Hallmark movies - I can't resist their mysteries - but there are quite a few regular movies as well. I've watched Finding Vivian Meir which was good and I'm a big fan of The Garage Sale Mysteries on Hallmark. J and I have also started watching Shetland on Netflix and so far are really liking it!
Off the Blog:
So the big news is we got a kitten! The Tornado has been wanting a kitten for ages and I've been taking allergy shots for 2 months now so I'm as good as I'm going to be. We finally decided that this weekend was the weekend and headed over to a local rescue group. Now the Tornado has been obsessed with the idea of getting an orange kitten for months and what is the first kitten we see? A tiny little orange kitten! We looked at a number of others and I really wanted to take them all home with me but I held strong! In the end we ended up getting the orange kitten we saw first. He's a total sweetheart and very social. Apparently he had a bit of a rough start. He was found at about 4 weeks old and had extensive damage to all 4 pads on his feet. However, he's healing up nicely and is really the most social snuggly cat I've ever come across (he was bottle fed for awhile so I'm wondering if that has something to do with). Because we just got him yesterday (Saturday) we're still all getting to know each other and the name is being hotly debated. I'm sure there will be a lot more kitten talk next week! Until then here's two of the many (many) pictures I've taken so far.

Cold As Ice is on Netgalley already? Wow, Mulhern's really writing isn't she? I need to get moving, I haven't read #5 yet! And yay for Shetland. I'm still on season three but hoping to finish soon. I think it gets even better as it goes!

ReplyDeleteOh what a sweet kitten. I have the Chamberlain book, to be honest I never even looked at what it was about but that polio thing will be interesting. I remember when we were kids we had to have a rest in the afternoon because people were still nervous about it.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know Julie Mulhern has another book coming out, Katherine. Yay! I've added it to my list. Your kitten is so cute. It's so hard to go to a shelter and see all the kittens, cats, puppies and dogs. I feel so sorry for them all. I'll look forward to more photos!

I have The Stolen Marriage and can't wait to read it...but Cold as Ice? I'm very excited...however, I'm reluctant to request it on NetGalley, now that I have a manageable number of books to read. But I might not be able to resist.
ReplyDeleteI love orange cats...we had one called Sebastian, but we were living in the foothills throughout his life...and he repeatedly escaped the house and roamed the woods, encountering all kinds of danger, including a coyote...finally. I'm sure your son's cat will fare better.

AWWWWW! What a cutie! My daughter wants another cat but we can't get one with the one we have currently plus I am allergic to cats and one I am ok with but two I would die. :) We are good at the moment with a Dog, Cat, Hamster and a bird occasionally (its my moms) I can't wait to see what you name him!

I am so behind on Julie Mulhern's series! I love all the Hallmark Mysteries. :) Can you believe the whole month on August is going to feature a new Garage Sale Mystery each Sunday! I so can't wait though my favorite is Murder She Baked but it's cause I have always crushed on Cameron Mathison...lol.

The kitten is adorable!! I hope that he adjusts well to your home :) It took my cat a while to adjust (and come out of hiding) after I adopted him, but he was a couple years old-- I think kittens adjust a lot quicker.

Your kitty is so cute! Every time a friend shares an Austin or Williamson Co. shelter post, I want to go get all those pets. I told Richard about six months ago or so I wanted to have a dog farm like in the end of the live action 101 Dalmatians so I can adopt all the dogs. I hope you guys settle on a name soon. He's so cute! I hope your allergies don't do too bad with this little guy. Have a great week!

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to find out what you guys will name your new kitten. My kids have pet allergies, but we have short list of hypoallergenic dogs that they will be able to tolerate. So I'm on a hunt for the perfect puppy for our family. It's going slow.
