Life with Leukemia (And Some Reading) - January 16

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Nothing!  I really meant to do some book shopping but there just wasn't time this week.

Currently:

Reading:  Totally Pawstruck by Sofie Ryan and Rest Ye Murdered Gentleman by Vicki Delany

Listening: The Girl from the Savoy by Hazel Gaynor

You can't really tell super well in this picture but Will no longer has the feeding tube in his nose.  On New Year's Day at about 4AM he woke up really sick to his stomach and the tube ended up coming out when he was sick.  It was quite a dramatic way to start the year.  Because he had done so well with it and put on enough weight it gave us a little wiggle room to try to get him to eat on his own and not have it put back in.  He is seriously motivated to keep it out and has been really working hard on eating. We are all holding our breath and hoping he can do it.  The NG tube is definitely worth the trouble and made a tremendous difference for him but he's really enjoying not having to deal with it.  He's still having a lot of foot pain things to the neuropathy and we are still waiting for the braces to be delivered. I'm really hoping they make a big difference and allow him to get back to being more active.

Rover is growing in leaps and bounds.  He had a vet appointment Tuesday and had doubled his weight in 3 weeks.  They keep kind of warning me that he's going to be big which is kind of funny.  We are estimating probably around 80 pounds when he's full grown.  He starts puppy class this week and I'm so excited to really start working with him.  He's so smart and pretty well behaved for a 13 week old puppy so I think once we harness his energy a bit he's really going to be a great dog.  I will not miss those little dagger puppy teeth though!

I thought last week was the week of appointments but it turns out this week has even more which I'm not super thrilled about.  My insomnia decided to show up again with an added twist.  I'm sleeping super light when I finally get to sleep and it's driving me crazy!  Normally I'm a super heavy sleeper once I actually get to sleep but right now every tiny little sound wakes me up.  I'm not a fan.  Any light sleeper tips?  At least I'm getting some decent reading done.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. Good luck with the appointments. Insomnia is no fun at all. Hope you start getting more sleep soon.

  2. Yay to the NG tube being out and hope Will can eat enough for it to stay out.

I had insomnia a couple years ago and being sleep deprived is no joke so I fell for you. The only thing that helped me was I found some apps and some Spotify playlists that had sounds of rain and sounds of white noise and one was just a cat continuously purring. lol Other than that, I found it best not to fight it and if I was awake I'd just go ahead and get up and do something until I got sleepy again. Good luck!!!

  3. Those Sofie Ryans look fun.

Yay for the feeding tube being out and it working sofar. Best of luck that he doesn't have to go back to it. Keep eating young man :)

the only sleeping tip I have is white noise helps me. A fan running or a white noise machine... for some reason it helps me a LOT.

  4. Awww….the cover from Totally Pawstruck is precious!! I’m glad the feeding tube is out. During my treatment the neuropathy was horrendous. Volatarine, alpha lipoid acid and turmeric helped immensely. Of course, check with the oncologist first. We also used a foot massager with heat that slipped on like slippers. That was also very soothing. Six years later, I still take the supplements to control the pain. Melatonin has helped with insomnia- just 3mg does the trick for me. Hugs and prayers!!!

  5. Two cosy authors I want to read. Hope Will does well with eating and doing without the tube. All the best for Rover's schooling - should be interesting. Ah insomnia and light sleeping. Do sympathise. I put on a soothing podcast and hope for the best.

  7. Sorry Will was sick, and I hope the tube is able to stay out. I can't imagine it would be fun to have a feeding tube. I struggle with insomnia too. Audiobooks help. They give me something to focus on rather than just staring at darkness and being mad that I'm awake.

  8. I'm glad he has the tube out but what a way to get it out! Hoping Will won't need it again.
That puppy will be so big! He's cute as hell. Sorry to hear about the insomnia, Doug suffers from that and Xanax used to help, that and a fan. Hope you find something soon. I can usually sleep but sometimes when I snap awake I try and mentally run through the scenes and dialouge of a movie I've seen millions of times like Nottinghill or Chef or Princess Bride.

  9. I hope Will is able to keep the tube out and able to get more active. Rover is adorable. I hope you are able to sleep better. I sometimes have trouble sleeping but I just read which is fine for me because I can sleep later. You have appts so that isn't so workable. I do find if I get up right away and go to the bathroom, then usually I go right back to sleep. It's like I tell myself I just needed to go and now there's no reason not to sleep or something. I hope you find something workable for you!

  10. So good for Will to be able to go on without the tube for a while! I hope he is able to keep it. I was good like you and did not get any books this week. Although I was tempted a few times to order some just so I did get some, lol. Hope you guys have a good week!

  13. Hope Will can do well without the NG tube. Good luck with puppy scholl - so cute.

As for light sleeping perhaps a white noise machine on your nightstand will help. I tried one when I had issues and it helped and, it's not loud enough to trouble other sleepers or block out very loud sounds.

  16. I'm sorry you're having trouble sleeping, Katherine. It's so hard when you don't enough sleep so I help it gets better soon. Rover is so cute. Have fun with him in his obedience classes. Should be fun. I remember (many years ago) when I took our Labrador Retriever puppy to class the instructor told me she was "the most inattentive puppy I've ever seen." All Ginger wanted to do was meet the other puppies! I hope you have better luck than I had!

And I hope you all have a good week.

  17. I can imagine that Will is thrilled to not have the feeding tube. I hope that he is able to keep his weight up without it. My sister had 2 male labs and one of them was about 110 pounds. Rover could be bigger than 80 pounds! I hope that your insomnia goes away. Have a great week!

  18. I love that cover for Totally Pawstruck. So cute! I really must try that series. I hope you are liking The Girl From the Savoy. I am so glad things are going well without the feeding tube! I hope that continues. I hope the puppy classes go well. I am sorry to hear you aren't sleeping well. I am a fairly light sleeper in general, which can be a pain. I hope you have a good week!

  19. I sure hope Will is able to keep the feeding tube out successfully. It sounds like he is really trying hard.

My sister swears by melatonin for light sleeping problems. At my age (65), I tend to wake up at least once and usually twice a night. Sigh. It could always be worse.

  20. Fingers crossed Will will have an on going good appetite! 🍟 I hope his braces hurry up and get there. 👏👏👏

Puppy teeth are lethal weapons. Ha ha. He looks so sweet and innocent. 😁

I had always been a normal sleeper, not deep or light, until a couple of years ago and now everything wakes me up, which has not been fun with the nighttime antics of our new cat. I was thinking about trying earplugs, but then I wouldn't be able to sleep thinking I wouldn't be able to hear the smoke alarm or someone banging on the front door in an emergency. I'd rely on Baz, but he is a super heavy sleeper. He once slept through the neighbor's tool shed catching on fire and the firetrucks being here. 😛
