Goodreads: The House on Hallowed Ground by Nancy Cole Silverman
Rating: Very Good
Source: Publisher
Description: When Misty Dawn, a former Hollywood Psychic to the Stars, moves into an old craftsman house, she encounters the former owner, the recently deceased Hollywood set designer, Wilson Thorne.
Wilson is unaware of his circumstances, and when Misty explains the particulars of his limbo state, and how he might help himself if he helps her, he's not at all happy. That is until young actress Zoey Chamberlain comes to Misty's door for help.
Zoey has recently purchased The Pink Mansion, a historic Hollywood Hills home, and believes it's haunted. But when Misty arrives to search the house, it's not a ghost she finds, but a dead body.
The police are quick to suspect Zoey of murdering her best friend. Zoey maintains her innocence and fears her friend's death may have been a result of the ghost...and a long-time family curse.
Together Misty and Wilson must untangle the secrets of The Pink Mansion or submit to the powers of the family curse.
Genre: Mystery - Cozy/Paranormal
Why I Picked This Book: I really enjoyed the Carol Childs series by this author and I was so curious to see what she did with a zanier more eccentric character.
My Impression: I've had an absolutely no good terrible week and honestly this book was one of the few bright spots. Every time I picked it up I was swept into the world of Misty Dawn and Wilson as they navigated the world of ghosts, secrets, and Hollywood glamour. It was such fun! I liked Misty in the previous books she featured in but was a little worried that she'd be a bit too odd to carry a book on her own but that definitely wasn't the case. There are ghosts and readings galore but underneath it all Misty is a nice person with a good bit of common sense. I really enjoyed how she dealt with the very skeptical police detective. She defended herself but wasn't going out of her way to be insulted. And Wilson! I adore Wilson! I do love a ghostly sidekick and Wilson may just be my favorite. He's prickly and particular and not afraid to voice his opinion.
And the mystery is quite the mystery! There's a famous actress from a famous Hollywood dynasty living in an iconic house that's haunted by the ghost of a little girl. Just who murdered Lacey and why Alicia is still hanging around kept me flying through the pages. I've been a fan of the other books by this author but this one was a really pleasant surprise. I loved the characters and was thoroughly entertained by the mystery. It was the perfect distraction from an otherwise not so good week and I'm looking forward to seeing more from Misty and Wilson!
Would I Read More of this Series/Author? Absolutely! I'm really excited to see where this series goes and I've got an earlier book in another series to catch up on.
Would I Recommend this Book? Definitely! If you enjoy cozy mysteries this is a great one to grab. It's not a super cozy cozy but it is a delightfully entertaining read.
* I received this book in exchange for an honest review. As always my opinions and impressions are completely my own. *
