Friday Linkups - Only Skein Deep

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
Do you ever feel like you have emerged better for reading a book?

My Answer:
Definitely!  There have been several books that have really changed my perspective (The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom comes to mind), books that have changed the way I approach things (The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin), and books that have knocked me out of a bad mood (The Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis).

This week's book is Only Skein Deep by Maggie Sefton.  I do love a cozy title pun and this one made me giggle plus I really enjoyed a previous book in this series and while I just started this one I'm really enjoying it!

The Beginning:
"Does that feel good?" Kelly Flynn asked her Rottweiler as she rubbed behind one his silky black ears.

My Thoughts:
To be honest Rottweilers are the only dog breed I'm scared of.  It's completely illogical because the reason for the fear is based off of one dog owned by my neighbors when I was a kid.  He was really mean and aggressive but he was also completely ignored so it's not that he didn't have a reason.  However, that childhood fear kind of sticks and despite knowing a number of really great Rottweilers I'm always a little hesitant of them on first sight.

The 56:
"Police report that an apparent murder was committed in the east central area of Fort Connor.  No further details were available at the time of publication."

My Thoughts:
Intriguing!  Why is the murder only "apparent"?

So what do you think?  Keep reading?

  1. Something about Rottweilers, Great Danes, Pitbulls, and Mastiffs intrigues me because they are so large. I just see them as protective dogs I guess. This book sounds like it will be really good, so if you have time, I say go for it! I read a book called The Walk from a series by an author called Richard Paul Evans that literally changed my life, so I totally get agree with you on this one! Hugs...and Happy Friday

  2. Yes, our neighbors had 2 pitbulls who were sweet, but when they had her sister over with toddler they turned and bite her face. It ruined the family, and I've been afraid of them ever since.

  3. Books are almost a limitless resource to change our lives, fact or fiction. That's why I love reading so much.

  4. I've started The Happiness Project several times but yet to finish, you've reminded me to start it back up. Do you know there's a companion journal for it?

  7. The punny title of your featured book made me laugh, too.

Thank you for sharing the book titles that changed your perspective. I think I might look into them.

  13. If it has knitting in it, I usually read it. Sorry you have that fear but it's totally understandable.

  16. Oh yes! I agree; books can change out perspective or the way we feel. I know they have me on occasion. Only Skein Deep sounds like a fun cozy. I admit I'm a little afraid of Rottweilers too. I remember many many years ago that a couple of neighborhood rottweilers had jumped their fence and were hanging out in the gated parking lot of the apartment complex where I was living. They were very aggressive and attacked one of the residents who had just gotten home from work. Even one experience can taint our opinion of a dog breed, can't it? Fears are hard to overcome sometimes. I am fine when they are on leashes and with their owners, but not so much if they are roaming free or not on a leash.

  17. I'm easing into the cozy books. I never used to read them, but I'm finding I enjoy the stories and the characters as a change in pace from what I usually read. I'll check out Only Skein Deep because I chuckled at the pun in the title. Just joined the CAW hop and am visiting others to read their answers. www.cleemckenziebooks.com

  18. I love mysteries and for about 10 years that is the only thing I read (when I worked 80 hour weeks) I have enjoyed Maggie Sefton during that phase but at that point only the first 6 books or so were available. I'm a knitter so I enjoyed them and the romance and the mystery. They're light reading, nothing earth-shattering Anne - Books of My Heart

  19. I think I have felt that way about being better after reading a book, but more in my teens and early twenties. I think maybe if I read more autobiographies I would feel that again. :)
