This Week in Reading - April 29

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Lowcountry Bookshop by Susan M. Boyer - This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series so I was super excited to get this one.  This one sounds like it takes place all over Charleston and there is the word "bookshop" in the title so I couldn't resist! (NetGalley)

The Risk of Rogues by Sabrina Jeffries - Sabrina Jeffries is one of my absolute favorite historical romance authors so there was no way I could resist getting this.  My reading has gone almost exclusively mystery lately and I'd like to mix in a bit more romance.  (NetGalley)

Currently:

Reading Dead Pretty by David Mark and Only Skein Deep by Maggie Sefton

Listening:  I just finished Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty and now I'm waiting for my next audio book to come in from the library.

Watching:  I've been binge watching Trading Spaces since the reboot and have been really enjoying it.  We've also been enjoying Fixer Upper lately.  I'm not sure what took me so long to start watching it!

Off the Blog:

It's hard to believe that we're ramping down for the end of school.  I'm already planning for summer activities again.  I am going to keep it pretty low key.  He's going to do two weeks of Space Camp again and we'll take a few weekend or slightly longer trips.  I'm also thinking about trying out two kids subscription boxes.  I'm leaning towards Little Passports and Raddish which is a cooking box geared towards kids.  Anyone tried either or know anything about them?

Next weekend is my birthday where I will officially be in my late 30s.  Getting closer to 40 isn't really bothering me but I have decided to make the month of May my birthday month and I'm going to try and do at least one thing or go at least one place I've been wanting to do/go each week.  I'm also back to a yoga program on Yoga with Adriene on YouTube.  I had been just sticking with her calendar but I really enjoyed the 31 Day Yoga Revolution so I thought I'd give the original 30 Days of Yoga a try.  Most of the days are 30 minutes or less so it's proving pretty easy to work in to my day.

I also wrote about a new (to me) website I'm really enjoying called Paperless Post.  I'm sending anyone who wants one a free (super fancy) ecard.  If you want one leave your email address in the comments.  I must warn you my mood has been leaning towards foxes and unicorns lately.

What's going on with you this week?

  4. Happy Birthday for next week! Hope you are spoilt and have a great summer. I enjoy reading about your Nancy Drew Project as I loved Nancy Drew and downloaded (I think the old version) on my ereader a few years ago. Yet to get to it.

  9. It's a bit weird, yet wonderful to read of your preparations for the summer holidays, given our childen don't break up until the 3rd week in July! Space Camp sounds great - I wish there were these kinds of activities here - the best Oscar can hope for is a week-long soccer course. I love the sound of those cards - unicorns and foxes... Have a great week, Katherine:)

  12. Space Camp sounds good. We have decided to have passes to the pool, zoo, an indoor park (the outdoor playgrounds are free), and their Tae Kwon Do lessons are enough for the summer. I just took away all screens except for 2 hours a day, so the first couple weeks of summer will probably be a mess for me. Do you stay at home with your son too?

  13. Happy Sunday! Sounds like your summer plans are coming together nicely. Space Camp sounds great; I would have loved something like that when I was a kid. (Not that I'm complaining about the camps I did go to, which were great, with wonderful outdoor experiences.)

Paperless Post sounds interesting; I'll check it out. I use the Jacquie Lawson site (www.jacquielawson.com), but it's not the right style for everyone I send cards and notes to. I do sometimes send physical cards and notes too, especially since I got a fountain pen for Christmas (with purple ink!)

  14. My kids have one more month of school and then exams. We are trying to plan our summer vacation which is hard with two teens with very dissimilar tastes. I have Big Little Lies on my bookshelf and hope to read it soon.

  18. I love HR and can't wait for your thoughts on the new Jeffries. Enjoy your birthday. For some reason I felt a lot of freedom in my 40s - to express myself without worrying about others opinions, etc. Great years ahead of you!

  21. The word bookshop in the title of a cozy mystery would be irresistible to me, too! Love the idea of a birthday month celebration.

  22. Sabrina Jeffries is a really historical romance writer for sure. Yay for school being out soon. I've never heard of kid's subscription boxes, but that's a great idea! I always love trying out new sites, so count me in at goddess10@gmail.com. I always get so amazed at all the things we can find on Youtube for FREE, so kudos on the yoga! Hugs...RO

  23. I think it's great how you're doing things in your birthday month that you've always wanted to do. I look forward to reading about it. I can't believe we have 30 days of school left, w/the last day being a half day. I still need to figure out the girls' summer.
I had to enlarge the font on my Kindle so I could read better and workout at the same speed. What a difference jumping from a 4 to a 5 makes.

  24. Birthday celebrations! Love it. You ought to treat yourself to some fun things this month. Love the idea of Passports for kids and I am going to get one for my granddaughter next year. She just turned 4 so I will wait. Great idea.

This week I got Thursday's Children (Frieda Klein mystery) by Nicci French and The Wind and the Willows for my BBC Culture Book list.
