This Week in Reading - April 7

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Ten Years a Nomad by Matthew Kepnes - It's been awhile since I read a travel memoir and this one looked like a lot of fun. (Publisher)

The Scent of Murder by Kylie Logan - I've enjoyed cozies by this author so I'm looking forward
to seeing a thriller by her and this involves a cadaver dog which is an interesting twist.  (Publisher)

Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger - I thought this one might be fun on audio and it was on sale so I couldn't pass it up.  (Purchased - Audible)

Blood Magick by Nora Roberts - I was kind of meh on the first book when I read it originally but I listened to it a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I'm planning on listening to the next two in the trilogy as well. (Purchased - Audible)

Crime on the Fens by Joy Ellis - I've been wanting to read this series since I first saw someone mention it.  I had an extra credit and thought I had to get it. (Purchased - Audible)

Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart - I've been wanting to read this one since it came out so when I saw it on sale on Audible I couldn't pass it up.  (Purchased - Audible)

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Pretty much the same as above!  (Purchased - Audible)

Currently:

Reading:  The Missing Years by Lexie Elliott and Meet Me in Atlantis by Mark Adams

Listening:  Untraceable by Laura Griffin.  I'm almost done with that and am not sure what's up next.  Either a Middle Grade or another romantic suspense.

Watching:  I"m hitting the Hallmark movies hard.  They have a checklist app and it has me completely addicted.  Plus, they're predictable enough that I don't really have to pay attention.  They're like the perfect background shows.

Off the Blog:

Today is the day I have to make our dining reservations for our Disney trip!  I go full ham on all the planning a Disney trip involves but it's a bit difficult to decide in April where you want to eat in October.  Luckily I only have to make the reservations for the super hard to get into restaurants (Be Our Guest at Magic Kingdom specifically) and can be a little more relaxed about the rest of it.  Well until Fast Pass day in August.  Dining Reservations 6 months out have NOTHING on deciding what rides you're going to feel like doing when two months from now.  This year we're ramping up the experiences a bit so I'm throwing in a couple of dessert parties where you get to eat themed desserts and then have special seating for the fireworks show.  I'm super excited!

Allergies have hit us hard here and everything is covered in yellow pollen.  The Tornado especially is feeling awful and we've started the Zyrtec regimen for him.  He always has two or three weeks a year when he's a wreck and this seems to be one of them!  But on the plus side spring is definitely here and things are blooming!  My tulips are gorgeous this year and I"m loving seeing their happy flowers.

  1. Great buys from Audible, they'll keep you going for awhile. An audiobook can really ramp a book up when it is well narrated. Sounds exciting planning for Disney.

  6. Ooo Disney!!! How fun!! And yeah, that would be tough, planning months ahead. I get why though. :(

And that travel memoir sounds awesome! Hope your Tornado's allergies abate soon. :(

  7. Disney!! I hope it'll be great! Must be so much fun planning, but maybe overwhelming at times?
I have always had pity for those with allergies. Such great time of the year, and so much discomfort ((

  9. Poor guy; hope the Zyrtec helps. I've been using the Kirkland version of Flonase, a nose spray which is a different experience from taking a daily pill. I wish you could take me on your Disney World trip! I miss Disneyland a lot. I've been drinking the Mad Hatter tea set my brother and SIL got me for my birthday last year.

  10. It looks like you got some great deals on audiobook! I hope you enjoy Girl Waits With Gun. The Scent of Murder sounds like it will be a good one. My husband was telling me about all the pre-planning that has to go into a Disney World trip. It's so crazy. It's not quite as complex when it comes to a Disneyland trip, fortunately for us. Perhaps one day we'll make it to the other side of the U.S. and visit Disney World. I hope Tornado is feeling better soon. Mouse takes allergy medicine every night to keep hers at bay. I hope you have a wonderful week, Katherine!

  11. I had no idea there was so much planning involved in a trip to Disney! I guess I thought you just get your passes and go, and make decisions when you get there. I suppose that's not feasible anymore, with so many visitors per day.

Sorry about the allergies. Mine are acting up too. But I am loving the spring flowers, too: daffodils, narcissus, forsythia, cherry trees, redbuds... the violets are out on our lawn. I'm even happy to see the dandelions blooming, with their cheerful bright yellow.

You got some good books this week, especially on Audible! I hope you enjoy them all.

  12. Oh - I'm so sorry Tornado is suffering so badly with hay fever. If it's any encouragement - I struggled terribly with hay fever from puberty right the way through my teens, 20s, 30s when it started to ease up - and now apart from a slightly blocked nose and the occasional sneeze, I don't suffer at all anymore. Neither do I need to take any medication, anymore either.

  14. It is weird having to make such detailed plans so far in advance. That is one thing about Disney that I really don't care for since I tend to be last minute with things. You got some great books this week. The Audible sale was awesome! Have a great week!

  15. All your new acquisitions sound great. Planning your Disney trip sounds exhausting, I’m almost glad it’s not somewhere I’ll ever visit.

    Have a great reading week

  16. It must be exciting getting all the holiday plans sorted! The last big holiday I was on was Cape Town in 2000. Since then it has just been local holidays in England though I've enjoyed them.

  17. Wow, I knew Disney required a lot of planning, but I didn’t know it was that far in advance! I haven’t been to a Disney park since I was a little kid. I’d love to go back someday. Have a great week!

  18. Wow! I can feel your excitement for the Disney Trip in the blogosphere, and love it! Always love seeing you share the pics on Instagram too. The pollen here is crazy, so I feel for your son. I used to have allergies pretty bad, but I normally only suffer a day or two now. Hope your Tuesday is amazing! Hugs...RO

  19. Ooooo, you have the new Lexie Elliott book? Tell me how you like it.
Your Disney trip sounds amazing but it sure would be weird making dinner reservations so far in advance! That will be a fun trip.

I'm with you about the allergies. Last week I had to take Claritan. The pollen has been outrageous.

  20. Um. Dessert parties really need to become more of a thing in regular life. lol

Oh no. Hope the meds help. Everything is yellow here even after the rain. Nooo!

  21. You should start a Disney planning blog! 🏰

Baz gets bad allergy attacks, too. His only started a couple of days ago because we had still been pretty cold up here. I feel for you all. (((hugs)))

I hope you are having a great week. 🌞

  22. Everyone seems to be getting Scent of a Murder. I read a review which said it didn't really have too much to do with the dog and decided not to get it. We will see if I made the right choice. The yellow dust is here as well as the blooming flowers. So far so good. My allergies seem to be held back.

Have a great time at Disney! I have to wonder about their gluten-free options now that we need that. I've been to both Fl and CA multiple times. My brother lives in FL.

    Enjoy your new reads!
