Friday Linkups - Murder in the Bowery

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
How do you organize your books for review?  Does it work for you or have you had to change it?

My Answer:
For ebooks I have a list of reading order based on review commitment dates.  For print books I have kind of a stack filing system.  The next 5 upcoming books are stacked in order that they need to be read and I also have a list for them as well.  It works pretty well but for the print books especially I'd like to have a neater system.

This week's book is a historical mystery in a series that I've been wanting to read for quite some time.  I loved a book from another series by Victoria Thompson but I've bene wanting to read her long running Gaslight Mystery series so I'm starting with Murder in the Bowery.

The Beginning:
"I need you to find my kid brother, Mr. Malloy."

My Thoughts:
I love a missing persons case!

The 56:
The room was dark and dank, lit by feeble electric lights and cooled by the water they kept dripping over the bodies to slow decay until they could be identified.

My Thoughts:
Well that's a bit gruesome!  I never thought about how they slowed decay before there was refrigeration but it does make sense.

So what do you think?  Keep reading?  How do you keep track of all your books?

  1. I do not really have a system. I tried various things for a while, but they always ended up feeling restrictive. My biggest problem is that I have a very low tolerance for any system 'telling' me what I have to read next. I do manage to get books read for book groups, but that's about it. I want to read what I want to read when I want to read it. Ha! Which is why I won't be participating in the Classics Club Spin in the future. I figured out my book (The Woman in White) and then promptly was reluctant to read it. Sigh.

Hope you enjoy Victoria Thompson's books. One of our mystery group members is a big, big fan of this series. In fact, I'm thinking of getting her a signed copy of one of the books when I go to the mystery conference next week.

    1. Kay, The Woman in White by W.Collins? If so, I love that classic, the movie isn't bad either.

  3. Your book sounds tempting. I love missing person cases, too.

As for organization, I do have a notebook with my e-ARCs listed in order of their release dates. On my e-mails, I also arrange them with labels that show the release dates.

I don't have a lot of physical books, but I stack those in order of their review dates, too. They are glaringly visible in those stacks. LOL

Enjoy your reading, and here's mine: “LET ME LIE”

  6. Cooling before refrigeration isn't something I had thought about before, either. Historical fiction is so tricky to write because of details like that. I admire anyone who can do it.

Seeing your blog title reminded me I just heard about a play,"Feeding The Dragon," written by a woman about her experiences living in a library when she was young. What an amazing opportunity!

  7. I've read the first in this series and really want to read the rest. I organize all my review books on a spreadsheet sorted by publication date and read them in order of publication date. It has been working well for me for quite a few years now. This week I have a thriller - What You Want to See by Kristen Lepionka. Happy reading!

  8. I've read a couple in this series. As a matter of fact I have, MURDER ON UNION SQUARE sitting in my TBR now. I'd love for you and your readers to check out THE UNINVITED CORPSE . . . https://www.facebook.com/elleryadamswritesmysteries/

  9. I'd keep reading, I like the atmosphere of it. I think I've read a Victoria Thompson unless I'm getting her mixed up w/ someone else...

I'm all over the place on organizing books for review. I mostly go by what I'm in the mood for, although release date does play a role, mainly in that I'm anxious to get a book when it comes out so often I'm reading it right away!

  12. That's a great system. I've only started blogging again so have not requested any from Netgellay or Edelweiss so at the moment I don't really need a system, but when I get back into the swing of things...that's why I'm so excited to check out everyone's answers for this week's Book Blogger Hop.

  13. I'm so random about my reading order, even for review books, which I know isn't ideal. I am such a mood reader. I do wish I read faster . . . I'm always behind. :-(

Murder in the Bowery looks so good! I hope you enjoy it!

  14. I also have a to-read pile for print books. They only graduate to the shelves once I've read them, and if I'm keeping them.

  15. I use goodreads to track what needs to be read by certain dates. I still fall behind so I am not sure that it is the perfect system. I actually do okay in terms of keeping up with books I take on now. My problem working in all the ones I skipped over years ago. I hope you enjoy the book you are reading. It is new to me.

  16. I have an ARC list that is separated into months. I also have a shelf on Goodreads for ARCs and review books, and of course Netgalley have the shelves set up chronologically, so between all three I stay pretty well on track. :)

  17. What do you do if you don't feel like reading the book that you have to read next? I find I select my books from my TBR by feel. If I'm not in the mood, I'll put it down for later.

  18. Your system is simple but sounds like it works. I use Google Calendar. As new books and audios arrive I add them to calendar on their release day or one day out as it fills. Not read are yellow, finished are green. This works well for me since I blog ahead. Right now I randomly choose from May (mostly audios which arrive randomly) and June/ July. It works well as I tend to go through moods. And since I always have a book and audio going at the same time. It allows me to select one from a different genre. Nope, I am not anal at all.

  19. I like the stack idea.

I think I am going to add that to my organization.

Thanks for sharing the way you organize.

  20. My reading organisation is pretty similar to yours! For requested reviews, I prioritise my books so that I'm able to read and review them by any specific deadline that they may have so I don't leave the requests until the last minute and I'm able to meet the deadline that the author wants the review completed by. Though, with physical books, I also generally tend to stack them in the order that I plan to read them next, but I'm flexible with that and can easily shift it around if I want. I like being able to read books in the order that I feel like reading them because, if I'm not in the mood for the specific genre, then I might not enjoy reading the book that I would otherwise love.

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad to see a similar organisation system!
