Friday Linkups - A Muddied Murder

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
Do you prefer to blog about a specific book genre or do you have an eclectic blog?

My Answer:
I've never set out to focus on one particular genre and I don't think I really want to do that.  I probably focus the most on mysteries - especially cozies - with some romance and nonfiction mixed in.  However, I started this blog to keep track of what I'm reading and I don't want to limit my reading to one particular genre.

I read the 3rd book in the Greenhouse Mystery series back in December and really enjoyed it.  So I was thrilled when the publicist offered me the 1st two books so I could catch up on the series.  Today I'm reading A Muddied Murder by Wendy Tyson and so far it is really living up to my expectations that were set with book 3!  Oh and the cover has me looking forward to garden fresh tomatoes.  Too bad it's only early February!

The Beginning:
Early morning at Washington Acres were deadly quiet.

My Thoughts;
Considering this is a murder mystery that's a rather ominous first sentence!

The 56:
Megan watched as he perused her sample menu.  She was sure it seemed amateurish to a professional chef, but she knew the kind of place she wanted.

My Thoughts:
I'm really enjoying watching Megan get the restaurant part open.  I can't imagine how never racking this part would be.

So what do you think?  Keep reading?

  1. Those tomatoes do look rather good! But yeah I prefer to try and have an eclectic mix too, although I suppose I do tend to gravitate to my favorite genres most of the time. Blogging has definitely expanded my horizons though!

  2. I try to have a mix of books but definitely focus on contemporary romance - adult and YA on the blog. I love seeing all different books on blogs though. Hope you enjoy your book!

  3. I don't mean to have a 'mystery' blog, but I do know that most of my reading falls somewhere in that genre. Not all though. And I like seeing other things on my friends' blogs to get ideas.

  4. This sounds good. My blog is eclectic but all fiction. I have been getting into cozies lately. This week I have A Cold Day in Hell by Lissa Marie Redmond. Happy reading!

  6. I read anything and everything under the sun. I don't write my blog for the comments which though nice aren't the main reason I started. Like you I wanted to keep track of what I was reading and my thoughts. Sometimes I will review a bunch of books in a certain genre, but then I could bounce between a few.

  11. A blog is such fun, isn't it? I am so glad I started my blog.

I do stick to genres I read for content on my blog.

Thanks for sharing what you do, Katherine, and for coming by my blog.

  13. It's always nice to find a new series to follow. And I agree with you about being open to different genres. I love to mix it up--although I find myself gravitating towards thrillers most of all.

  15. I think it's important to read books you're into. It's way more fun as a blogger and as a blog reader to write/read book reviews/talks that are passionate!

    Have a great weekend :)

  16. I've been wanting to start this series for a while. It sounds great. Plus, I love cozies that are set on farms. I love to read all kinds of different genres. When I read too much of the same type of book, I tend to get bored. It's great to mix it up sometimes. Have a great weekend! :)

  17. Aw, I'm already rooting for Megan after reading that excerpt. Hope you enjoy your weekend!

  18. My blog started out as sole YA book reviews and after a while it just sort of morphed into a more eclectic type of blog.

I think that this one sounds really interesting and I agree with you about that cover. Enjoy! :)

  19. I really want to read this one. It sounds so good.

  20. I am the same way in terms of my blog. I don't focus on one particular genre, although sometimes I may seem to focus on one, two or three more than others. A Muddied Murder sounds like it is a good one! I am glad you are enjoying it so far.

  21. I am always amazed by the bloggers that can focus on just one genre of books. I can't do it. If I read too many of any one genre in a row, I get bored and stop enjoying the books.

  22. I wouldn't be able to only read one genre myself. There's just so many good books in all the genres.

Have a great weekend. - Katie

  23. Although I don't read too many cozies and I am definitely not much of a chef, this series has garnered so many excellent ratings and reviews, that it would be silly to disregard it completely, so I have made a note of the books and author, thanks for the recommendation.

I do like an eclectic mix of genres and titles, both in my reading and as material for my blog posts, although I have to admit that I have recently committed myself to a whole raft of blog tour dates for predominantly romcoms and contemporary romances, which in retrospect I maybe shouldn't have.

I guess my heart and soul will always be murder / mystery or suspense/ psychological thriller led!

Thanks for an interesting post and have a good weekend :)

  24. Variety is good! I don't limit what genres I post about either, I write about what I read, whatever I am reading. :)

  25. I used to read a lot of mysteries when I was younger. Now I love fantasy and paranormal romance. Have a great weekend!

  26. I blog about a lot of different genres, but I'm starting to try focusing more of SFF books -we'll see how that goes in the long run.

  27. HI--I'm new to blog hops and I LOVE the idea of combining all three of these in one post. I might steal the idea from you. I'm a library lover as well, and I had a career as a librarian. It was my second home. I like to read YA, romance, women's fiction, all of them in contemporary or historical settings.

  28. I liked her; she was spunky and direct.

  29. Agreed, I enjoy reading different genres. Sometimes you need to read something different a couple of times!

That book definitely sounds interesting. I think it would be a good read!

  30. I enjoy the freedom to peruse different genres, too. I didn't want to lock myself in like that when I started my blog. I like the sound of your book. Keep reading!

  31. I think it's nice to have some variety in what you read and blog. Keeps it interesting and ya on your toes. :)

  32. That does sound ominous. Happy reading!

  33. I don't like to limit myself to one genre either. I'll read just about anything and my blog reflects that.
