Life with Leukemia (and Some Reading) February 24

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

This week was way better then last week.  The chemo combo this week was much easier and his numbers are way up.  He did have to have a blood transfusion which makes for a long day but the transfusion is kind of like an instant energy boost and after he got some rest he's felt much more like his old self the last few days.  And even better we got to hang out with one of the St Jude therapy dog who is just a love.  It definitely made the time pass faster.  Because his immune system being so much stronger we were able to have some visitors (distanced and masked) and that has been so much fun and good for all our moods.

This past week I started doing yoga again for the first time since Will was diagnosed and it has made such a difference in my headaches and just general stress level.  I used to do lots of classes but in the past couple of years I had switched to just YouTube channels.  Yoga with Adriene and Sarah Beth Yoga are my favorites.  I've been keeping it really low key - more stretching then actual yoga - and short - no more then 10 or 15 minutes - and I've been really loving it.

Currently:

ReadingMrs. Jeffries Demands Justice by Emily Brightwell and A Curio Killing by Mary Ellen Hughes - though both of these should be finished today.

ListeningDangling by a Thread by Lea Wait

Watching:  I watched an Aurora Teagarden mystery on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries this week and enjoyed it.  It's pretty cheesy and not at all like the original books but it's lots of fun and I've got one more before I'm completely caught up.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. I am glad Will is feeling better. What a wonderful treat to spend time with the therapy dog!

I think I need to work harder at getting back into an exercise routine of some sort--just to get moving more. I am glad you have been able to devote more time to Yoga and it is helping.

I hope you are enjoying your reading. Have a great week, Katherine!

  3. Good to hear Will is finding it easier going for now and yes to yoga and stretching. I know stretching is good, Stretch is even my word for 2021 but I am not faithful to it ...yet! I must see if the Lea Wait books are available to me on audio although mind you I have a few more series to listen to first!

  4. Hi Katherine! I love Aurora Teagarden, the tv series. But never read the books. I think the series was quite entertaining, but yes - definitely a bit cheesy here and there.

So glad to hear Will had a good week and the the yoga helps you too! I don't always feel like going to barre class, but yes - you do feel better after the exercise and relaxation.

Have a good week and take care!

  5. I'm glad you had a better week, and that Will feels better - the therapy dog looks adorable, what a good idea to include animals in the kids treatments. Yoga helps a lot, it does, I experienced it personally. I knew about Adriene's channel, which I love, but I'd never heard about Sarah Beth, her videos and her playlist make me want to try them asap. Have a zen week, take care :)

  7. I am so glad he is doing better this week. I love yoga with Adriene, I used to do that a lot. Since I am home I really should try to do that again even for 10 minutes.
Therapy dogs are amazing, my son used to have them come to his school.

  9. I'm glad he is feeling better, and had some visitors.
I think it's great you are doing Yoga again and I'm all for using the videos on youtube much easier to do it at your own pace. I need to start doing it again.
I hope you guys have a great week.
I feel like we are all living the covid restrictions they just never seem to end. At least they are trying to keep you all safe and you get to return to school. In California our kids have almost been out a year and at the rate we are going I don't see them returning anytime soon sadly. Looks like you had a great week. Happy Reading!!!

  11. Lovely to see Will with the therapy dog, who looks adorable. So glad to hear that the treatment is easier at this stage. And doing the yoga exercises sounds like an excellent idea - you're in for the long haul, so finding something quick and practical that can help you throughout without lots of equipment, etc sounds ideal. I hope the coming week is a good one, Katherine:)

I do enjoy the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, although most of them are reruns. I'll be glad when they produce some new ones!

    Enjoy your week!

  13. Yoga is really helpful. You may like this 'Tim Tenessi' on Youtube. I do his yoga and it helps. I also like any meditation that has chimes and chanting in it.

  19. That's such good news about Will! It must raise all your spirits when he feels better, and when his immune system is doing well. And also good for you that you're getting back to yoga! I would like to start yoga. I tried in 2019 with Adrienne, but got derailed this year... but I'm going to give it another go.

  22. I'm so glad you had a good week! How wonderful that the visit with the therapy dog was so helpful. Yoga is always a good thing for me. I struggle to do things alone; I do so much better when I do things with others. But I have resolved to do yoga/walking/stretching every morning, and that has helped my mood, too. I made a little playlist and a list of yoga poses, and I like that I can do as much or as little as I want.
