Life With Leukemia and Some Reading - January 10

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

Off the Blog:

So on non-Leukemia news my step-daughter and her husband both have Covid.  His case looks like it's really mild and while she isn't feeling quite as well she's more in bronchitis/sinus infection level not feeling well.  What's really scary is their almost 1 year old started running a fever today.  Their pediatrician says his longs sound really clear and his oxygen levels are good so hopefully it's super mild or something teething related.  What's frustrating for them (and us) is that they've been so careful but her husband came into contact with one person who was not so careful and picked it up from that person.  It just takes one exposure.

We have been extra isolating this week as Will's counts were really really low at his clinic appointment.  This in some ways is a good thing because it shows that he is extremely responsive to chemo which hopefully will mean less chemo all together but the bad thing is that this means his immune system is nonexistent.  We had planned for a masked outdoor visit with a few different family members for his birthday but that's been put on hold until at least next weekend.  I spoke with his new oncologist at clinic and she was great and definitely took the time to answer questions.  On an even better note Will has been feeling really good and is very much to being his old self which has been wonderful.  We've been having a good time playing video games and watching shows together and just overall enjoying that he's feeling good.  This journey has a lot of ups and downs but so far it's make us really appreciate the ups. Now if only I could get caught up on sleep.  I'm past exhausted right now and really want to get feeling better before we have to go back to Memphis in a few weeks.

Currently:

Reading:  Dead in the Doorway by Diane Kelly and The Crying Child by Barbara Michael

Listening:  I'm almost done with The Shadow Sister by Lucinda Riley

Watching:  We finished the latest season of The Great British Bake-Off and thoroughly enjoyed it.  We were very pleased with the winner.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. I am sorry to hear your step-daughter and her husband have COVID. I hope their health improves and their son's condition will ease soon. It really can happen that easily, unfortunately. I'm sorry they are having to go through this.

I am glad Will has been feeling good and hopefully his numbers will get back on track soon as well. I'm thinking of all of you. I know it isn't easy. I hope you are able to get some rest and time for yourself.

I hope you have a great week, Katherine!

  2. I so hope you get that much needed sleep and rest Katherine, vital that you do, so hope it happens. Tough times for sure but love seeing how you are focusing on what is so important - Will and family. Hope your step daughter's family get over Covid soon, yes one careless thoughtless person, I've heard of a few others like that.

  4. Hi Katherine! In our little community, it is really scary at the moment. Everybody knows someone who is infected. Numbers are very high. We are still okay and trying to take care as much as possible.

Glad to hear Will is feeling good, let's hope for only good days to come!

I will have to take a look at Dead in the Doorway, sounds like me and Elza's cup of tea.

Have a good week and take care!

  5. I hope your stepdaughter and her family manage to soon recover from COVID - as you say, it only takes one careless person... And delighted to hear that Will is feeling more like himself at present. I hope you manage to catch up on your rest, very soon. Take care.x

  7. Sorry to hear about the COVID. My sister had to get tested for it last week. She doesn’t have it, which is good news because we live together, and I don’t want it! I’m glad Will is feeling better. Have a good week!

  14. Sorry to hear about your step-daughter and family having the covid. I heard from a covid survivor group that you should sleep on your stomach because sleeping on your back makes it harder to breath. So if she is having breathing problems you might have her try that as well as drink tonic water, and take zinc and vit D. Just passing on info I know others have said has helped them.

Glad things are going well with Will even though you couldn't do the outdoor gathering. Hopefully you will be able to do that soon!

    Have a great week! *hugs*

  15. I am so glad that Will is feeling better, and that things are progressing satisfactorily.

Too bad about one person causing your family to be affected! But that's all it takes. If only everyone would be as diligent with the protocols.

Stay safe and enjoy Will's birthday.

  17. Oh no sorry to hear that! I hope they both have a mild and quick course. It does really take just one exposure and that's so frustrating! Especially when you try so hard to be careful...

I'm glad Will is doing well. Continues prayers going up for him and you guys. Be safe!

  18. *HUGS* Best wishes for your stepdaughter and her family. So frustrating to take precautions but be at the mercy of other people. I'm glad Will is overall doing well. Thinking of all of you.

  19. I'm so sorry about your step-daughter's family. That's exactly what I'm so scared about with Dante- we're so careful, but it only takes one exposure. And we have control of ourselves, but he's counting on us to protect him so I just feel so stressed. Especially since the world is full of people who don't care these days.

Sorry that you had to postpone Will's outside party, but I'm glad it's because his body is responding well to the Chemo. Hope you get to have something safe soon!

  20. Oh no, I'm sorry to hear your Covid news. I've had it in my family and I'm hoping my dad and I avoid it until these vaccines kick in. I'm so paranoid about the virus that I've left the house about three times since the summer-twice to my uncle's house to clear out stuff and once for a flu jag.
