This Week in Reading - September 11

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Death and the Gravedigger's Angel by Loretta Ross - This is the 3rd book in what is becoming a series that I really anticipate the next book.  In this mystery there's an abandoned house and some kind of story from World War I.  Can't wait!  (NetGalley)

The Holiday Gift by RaeAnne Thayne - RaeThayne's Christmas books are so delightfully Christmas that I always look forward to them.  And this one comes out in November which is an appropriate time to actually be thinking about Christmas so that makes it even better!  (NetGalley)

The Danger of Desire by Sabrina Jeffries - Somehow I have yet to read the 2nd book in this series but that didn't stop me from getting this one!  Sabrina Jeffries is one of my favorite historical authors so I can't wait to read this one! (NetGalley)

Love From Boy by Donald Sturrock - This is a collection of letters written by Roald Dahl to his mother.  I know almost nothing about this author so I'm excited to get a little bit of insight into who he is.  (NetGalley)

Currently:

Reading:  Still reading Before the Fall by Noah Hawley and just started Body in the Bayou by Ellen Byron

Listening:  I finished the 1st Percy Jackson (loved it and it's fantastic in audio) and am now listening to podcasts while I wait for my next hold to come through.  Right now I'm really enjoying Thinking Sideways about weird mysteries.

Watching:  We've been watching season 3 of Blacklist which just showed on Netflxi and have been enjoying it!  I've also started watching Catfish on Hulu.  It's an MTV show about online dating where they go see if the person is who they claim to be (Spoiler - usually no) and it's crazy addictive!  The funny thing is I had zero interest when it came on originally because I'm not really the target market for MTV shows but I cannot stop watching it now!

Off the Blog:

This week was crazy.  Not because of anything that happened but because NOTHING happened.  I'm pretty sure I was abducted by aliens because that is the only thing that can explain how little I got done this week and how short it happened.  Part of that was because of the holiday on Monday and then the fact there was no school on Tuesday but after that I have no excuses.  I didn't even get all that much reading done this week.  Seriously, alien abduction is the only explanation!  I have high hopes for next week though.

On the Blog:

What Happened:

What's Coming Up:

Monday: Secrets of Wishtide - Mystery Review
Tuesday: My All Time Faves in My Favorite Genres
Wednesday: TBD
Thursday: TBD
Friday: Linkups with Current Book
Saturday: TBD
And hopefully having my act together so I won't have as many To Be Determineds next week!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. My week seemed pretty ordinary. I did enjoy the books I read, though, and found a new show on Netflix: Offspring.

Before the Fall is on my list. Enjoy your week!

  2. I like Blacklist. I didn't grab the Jeffries book, but hope to read it. Have a wonderful week!

  3. My week was relatively quiet though it seemed to go quite fast. Have a good week!

  4. Death and the Gravedigger's Angel- love that cover. It's got a spooky vibe but not too spooky, you know? And Catfish I've never heard of but it does sound like it would be funny. I'm so out of the loop on MTV- I watched some awards show or other (not really watched but saw snippets of) and it was obvious I'm not in THAT target demographic anymore lol.

I loved the short week and wish we had one every week. I could get used to those.

  5. Ha Katherine... I could relate to your 'what did I DO all week comment'. My weeks haven't been like that lately but for so long they seemed to be. I'd think back on something to share and came up with nothing!

I'm glad you're enjoying the series you're reading. It's great when you're able to look forward to whatever's coming next!

Looking forward to hearing how you enjoyed Before the Fall.

  7. Lol it's so weird when you have those days or weeks go by in which you don't even know what you did because you didn't actually get anything done but you can't explain where all the time went. Alien abduction sounds like a good explanation to me. And I've never actually sat and watched whole seasons of Catfish, but I've seen plenty of episodes here and there while they were on or when I was bored. It is a pretty good show. Sometimes it's surprising!

  8. I have to say a week of doing nothing sounds quite good, especially as it involves a long weekend. Here's to a busier week for you this week though x

  9. I have had many weeks like that, so I can identify! We watched the first couple of seasons of Catfish. How many have there been since then? Have a marvelous week. :)

  10. I love holiday themed books, and I read some RaeAnne Thayne books, so ‘The Holiday Gift’ sounds great.

I hate it when an alien abduction happens.. :D LOL!! I definitely understand, cause those weeks also happen to me sometimes. Not too much thankfully. I hope next week will be more productive for you! ;)

  11. When we have a holiday week I am always thrown off. You have some good books in the lineup. We have only been watching a few DVDs and recently enjoyed A Hologram for the King with Tom Hanks. It did t get great reviews but I love Tom Hanks.

Thanks for your good wishes about the hurricane damage. Whew!

  13. I put Death and the Gravedigger Angel on my wishlist as I have the second one in reviewer limbo because I don't have the first one so I didn't want to go and grab this one...trying to be a good girl. :) Love Sabrina Jefferies so hope I see that new one on the review audiobook list soon (though I think I have book two to listen to yet...got to check that out as I am not for sure).

    Have a great week!!

  14. You know, I am not MTV's target audience either, but sometimes I totally get sucked in to some of their shows! Have a great week!

  15. Lol I love it! Alien abduction! You seem to be returned to us relatively unharmed, just with this big hole in your weekly accomplishments. Not bad as alien abductions go ;)

I was curious about catfish too - and I'm so not their target audience. Now you really have me thinking about it! Have a great week :)

  16. OMG I hate being abducted by aliens. It's like what the hell happened to the week. I am so with your explanation. I hope they stay away this week and you are able to get some stuff you wanted to get done.

Have a great week, Katherine! Happy Reading! ox

  17. OMG, Catfish is scary! Some of those people are crazy as hell. I can't wait to see what happens this season on The Blacklist. Especially since there's going to be a spin-off show. It'll be interesting to see how that comes about. Have a great week!

  18. We fell down the Catfish rabbit hole when it first came out. It is very addicting. Sometimes I have weeks where I am so unproductive and do nothing. I will now be blaming alien abductions ;) Have a great week!

  19. Hallo my fellow abductee (what do you call someone that has been abducted with you btw??) - I've also been abducted. But I think they are doing ongoing experiments on me, because it's getting worse every week. I might not be an earthling the whole of next week. ANYWAY - how cool is it that Kimberley used your Top Ten Tuesday! WHOOO HOOO!!! It really was great. Hope your upcoming week will be awesome and if it ends up to stay TBD, also good. 21. The Loretta Ross series is intriguing! I love mysteries. And I love RaeAnne Thayne, Christmas books are the best. So happy, all the time. :)

Hope your time back on earth is fun this week!

  22. You crack me up! It's fine to have a few TBD's! Surprise us! I love the Percy Jackson series and have listened to it on audio. So much fun!! Have a good week!

  23. Love Thayne and Jeffries! Enjoy their books and the week.

  24. LOL at the alien abduction! It seems like short weeks after a Monday holiday are always lost causes for me, too... why is that? Here's to a more productive week :)

  25. I need 'Love From Boy' - I had no idea about this book, but being a big Dahl fan, I was already aware of the weekly letters, but had no idea about the book - thanks for sharing that!

Enjoy your books this week, and I hope the aliens stay at bay!

  26. I barely watch TV. The girls are the ones who do. I need to see if I can catch up on The Good Wife and Nashville. The husband and I used to watch So You Think You Can Dance or the girls and I Top Chef Junior, but all's been forgotten. For a while the girls and I watched Fixer Upper but it's been a couple of weeks. It's amazing how big of a house you can get in Waco, Texas but well, that's Texas. I love how they work with someone's budget and do amazing work for it. We watched Jungle Book two weekends ago. It was awesome!
