This Week in Reading - May 17

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

The Bookshop on the Shore by Jenny Colgan (Bookshop.org) - I adored the last few Jenny Colgan books so I decided this would be a perfect birthday present to me.  I ordered a few more books in this order and they are on their way but not arrived.

The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson (Book Outlet) - This book has been on my TBR for ages and when I saw it on Book Outlet I couldn't resist it.  I don't see me reading it any time soon but I'm glad I have it on hand.  I ordered a few more things but mostly kid related school books.

Currently:

Reading:  Grave Consequences by Lena Gregory, Thunderstruck by Erik Larson, and Falling Awake by Jayne Ann Krentz

Listening:  In Want of a Knife by Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli

Watching:  We are still watching City Homicide on Amazon Prime and enjoying it.

Off the Blog:

New week same story.  Nothing major has changed.  I've had a few chiropractor appointments this week to get my headaches back under control.  It was nice to be out of the house a little bit though I'm pretty much just going from point A to point B and back with an occasional run through a drive thru!

Our state is opening back up slowly but I think we are going to pretty much stay as we are for a bit.  I understand people who need to get back to work or other various reasons but since we are doing okay inside we are going to stay put.

We have been playing a LOT of Animal Crossing and have decided we are going to become a 5 star island if it kills us - or more realistically requires us to spend a tremendous amount of time playing the game.  It's been kind of fun to work together though the 10 year old is seriously bossy!

And if you aren't watching John Krasinski's SGN on YouTube  you need to be.  Seriously every episode makes me get a bit teary in the best possible way and the cameo appearances cannot be beat!

  1. Love the sound of the Bookshop book. Those look fun. :) And hope you are having a good birthday month!! We're sticking close to home too although from what I can see people are out and about like crazy! It's definitely wearing on people. We're trying to stay put though for now...

Be safe and well this week and hope your books are great!

  2. I love that series by Jenny Colgan, i hope she writes more in it. But so many of her books are very enjoyable. I have read Falling Awake, one of the first I read by her and liked it. I have a few more of her older ones sitting on my TBR. Take care, keep well and safe.

  3. LOL is the ten-year-old the AC boss? I'm happy you've found something you can do together, and a 5-star island is a great goal to have :)
I'm back to work at school, but with only half my students at any given time. It's nice to be out again, but the clean-up after getting back home is long! I have to do all I can to not bring anything back with me.
Have a great week ahead and stay safe and healthy

  5. We are gonna be staying put too, even though the city has started getting back to work. Better safe than sorry. We are restricting the venturing out only to essentials and an occasional run.

  6. I understand you staying put - no point in getting out and about unless you have to. Himself has to work, but I am still at home and on furlough:)). Love to hear your game-playing exploits - the family that plays together, stays together... or somesuch! Have a peaceful week, Katherine:)

  7. I have to go to work but other than that I am staying home. Since I work in a company with only 4 people, I don't feel like I am in danger by going to the office. I am going to have to ask my daughter how many stars her island has. She has been playing the game but hasn't devoted all that much time to it. Nice new reads this week. I hope you have a great week!

  8. Yes, week to week seem much the same. Glad to hear that you guys are doing well and staying busy together. My husband is still working from home, but his company is making plans for the future with small changes perhaps in June. All my usual activities and pursuits are still not possible and I have no idea when they will be. I do have a teeth cleaning appointment this week and a haircut scheduled as well. Both with multiple rules and much different than usual. Other than that, just the same. Ha!

  9. I am way behind on Colgan's books, which I love. I should probably grab this one, though. Thanks for sharing, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  10. Jenny Colgan's books are always fun! I enjoyed THE BOOKSHOP ON THE SHORE. Hope you do as well!

I think it's a good call to be a little reserved about everything opening back up. We're taking it slow, just in case!

  11. The Jenny Colgan book looks good. I have to add that one to my wishlist. I don't blame you for wanting to stay put for now. Our state is slowly opening too. We've been hesitant but going out a little more, but mostly staying home. Hope you have a great week! Stay safe.

  13. I love Jenny Colgan. The Bookshop on the Shore looks and sounds like a great read.
I hope your headaches get better soon. I have those a lot too. Horrible!
    Stay safe and happy reading.

  14. We are with you on the staying as we are. I feel very fortunate we can. I don't really love going out even drive thru. I do like driving around to see how road construction is progressing near our house when I am out though.

I hope you have a great week and stay well!

  15. South Florida opens up tomorrow including TJMaxx, Homegoods, etc. It's too soon for me. I'll be staying home - aside from my morning and evening walk. We are retired and we are fortunate to be able to stay in .. We are playing games, watching Netflix, reading, and cooking

  16. The Bookshop on the Shore look good. I've never read a Jenny Colgan (I don't think) but I'm a sucker for bookstore books, so... it's probably going on my TBR.

I keep hearing about Animal Crossing, but we don't have a Nintendo. I wish it was available for other platforms (like iOS), because I think it would be fun. But I already don't have time to keep up with the games I'm playing on my iPad, so perhaps it's for the best!

We're staying put, too. I think that we will pretty cautious about going out, though my husband may have to work onsite one day in the next week or two. Mostly he can keep working from home, though, and I've worked from home (freelance) for over 20 years. I miss trips to the library and the occasional stop at the bakery, but other than that, I'm OK with staying home and ordering what I need or using curbside pickup.

  17. The Bookshop on the Shore sounds good. I want to read more by Jenny Colgan. I hope you are able to get your headaches under control. It's pretty much the same here too. School, work, stay at home when we can. Mouse and I tried a wax on her hair this morning to give it a pink color. Her hair is so dark though, it doesn't stand out much. I hope you have a good week, Katherine. Stay safe and well.

  18. So I haven't actually had time to checkout animal crossing but it sounds like y'all are having a great time with it. Glad you were able to get some appointments with the chiropractor for your headaches! I would like to see my masseuse, but even if it were an option, now that I'm losing my job I don't think it's a good plan to spend the money. But my back does hurt 😟.

Have a great week and stay safe!

  19. The Bookshop on the Shore looks good; Colgan is on my authors to tyr list. So many people having so much fun with Animal Crossing; maybe I should try it. I'm not surprised to hear a 10 year old is bossy, lol.

Have a good week, stay safe!

  20. I want to play Animal Crossing, but Baz won't let me use his Switch. Ha ha. 😏

    Have a wonderful week. 🌞

  21. Having headaches are no fun, and hope you're able to get them under control soon. I agree. I don't mind staying in a little while. Sending some air hugs your way. RO

  22. Not much going on over this way either, it's getting pretty mundane and boring. Have a great week!

  23. Scotland is still on full lockdown and we're quite happy just staying home and avoiding the virus for the considerable future. The UK government is looking at easing a few restrictions so we'll see how that goes. I really want to get my Wii set up again and start playing some games and getting some exercise!
