This Week in Reading - March 10

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor - I don't really know much about this one but it's been dancing around the edges of my TBR for awhile and the cover is so pretty! (Purchased)

The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey - This is a rebuy.  My original copy wasn't in great shape when I got it and the years haven't been kind so I had to buy another one. (Purchased)

Silent Auction by Jane K. Cleland - I've really been enjoying this series and have been keeping an eye out for earlier books in the series. (Purchased)

Dead and Gone by Dorothy Simpson - I used to read Dorothy Simpson ages ago but don't remember much about her books and this one sounded intriguing. (Purchased)

The Book of Killowen by Erin Hart - I have the one right before this coming up on my reading list so I figured it wouldn't hurt to pick this one up.  (Purchased)

Die For Love by Elizabeth Peters - I read this mystery that takes place in a conference for romance writers years and years ago and enjoyed it.  I remember nothing about it but have been wanting to revisit Elizabeth Peters so I had to pick this one up.  (Purchased)

Currently:

Reading: Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts and just starting Murder Once Removed by S.C. Perkins

Watching:  Mostly movies though I have been enjoying this season of The Voice.

Listening Dead Wake by Erik Larson which I'm really enjoying and then I'm going to start The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith

Off the Blog:

This week was busy but not one of those busy weeks where stuff actually gets accomplished.  Next week doesn't seem like it's going to be much better.  It's book fair week at the Tornado's school so I'm doing some volunteering and probably buying books.  I did manage to get a giant pile of books that I had read but don't plan to reread to the used bookstore.  I traded them in and did a small little shopping spree (see the What I Got section) with some of the proceeds.

We have spring break coming up next week and I'm looking forward to it.  We typically stay home or only take a small trip during spring break and go on a big trip in October (we are going to Disney World again) and I do enjoy the more relaxing break.  I'm not looking forward to springing forward this week.  I don't like getting up early and I like going to bed earlier even less.  I always feel like it takes weeks to get caught up.

We are expecting some nasty weather this weekend and into the week.  The school that Emma is student teaching at was in one of the areas that was hit with tornadoes last week.  23 people died and there was so much property damage it is heartbreaking.  Luckily she wasn't there when the tornadoes hit and it seems that all of her students are okay though she'll know more when school starts back this week.

  1. I love anything Irish, especially in March, so I'm adding An Irish Country Doctor. Enjoy your week and your books.

  2. Oh you made some good purchases after your trip to the used bookstore. We heard about those awful tornadoes on our news, such devastation for the people. You change times earlier than we do, I was just thinking today I must look it up and see when we fall back! Enjoy the school book fair, I always loved browsing the books as an adult - we didn't have them when I was a student.

  4. I always struggle with the time change too. You'd think a one hour difference wouldn't be so hard, but it is! Hope you have a great spring break.

So sorry to hear about the tornados! That's awful and so scary. Glad your daughter is okay, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

I need to read Elizabeth Peters at some point.

  5. I'm lucky to live in a place with mild weather so we don't have to deal with a tornado, earthquakes, hurricanes and wildfires, things like that. I know I'm lucky. I'm glad that your daughter is ok.

  6. I hate the time change. There is talk that it will be done away with. That sounds like good news to me.

I've created a linky on my blog for the Sunday Salon and I've kept the Facebook group. I hope you will join in and spread the word.

  8. This weekend I did a lot of nothing and just tried to relax as much as possible. The time change is the worst, I prefer the fall time change. lol

Glad your daughter is ok, those tornados were so scary.

Both my kids spring break is in April and we are heading to Florida (not staying at disney) I am looking forward to the weeks break and just really relaxing.

School Book Fairs are so dangerous! lol

Have a great week, Katherine! Happy Reading!

  10. I hope those in line of the tornadoes stay safe. Yay for supporting Book Fair which is always fun. My youngest had a book order and was hesitant to pick out all of the books she spotted because she felt it would be too much but I told her Daddy won't mind and told him how she felt. He gave the green light and I ordered them + she got to order a free book $5 or less since we spent $25+. This will be her last year of book order and I always make sure to support the teacher who'll receive points to order books for her classroom.

  12. So sorry about the storms-- heard about it on the news and sent up a prayer for you when it happened.

A nice selection of books you are reading and picked up. The Erin Hart title would be a good read for St. Pat's day this week :)

I'm totally dangerous at a school book fair or a library sale! You seemed to have used some restraint. My new thing is stopping in at Goodwill's in different towns when I pass one by and adding to my ($1.00 apiece) Robyn Carr paperback series. I hope to get all of Virgin River to read this year and next.

  14. We just finished spring break and stayed home but I don't feel very rested. I hope it goes better for you! Great job on packing up and along the books you won't be rereading. I have been doing that or donating the ones I now have on ebook or audio. Enjoy your reads! Anne - Books of My Heart

  16. Those tornadoes - my heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones, and to everyone who lost property. Thank goodness your daughter wasn't there. My son has a book fair this week! I am excited lolol. I used to run our school book fairs for years as the library para. It was a lot of work, but so much fun! I loved the kids being so excited about reading. :)

  19. Oh my goodness, stay safe with that weather! Spring weather can be so scary and unpredictable.

You just made me realize my daughter will probably have book fairs at her school next year. Maybe I'll be able to volunteer and help out, because that sounds awesome! :)

  22. I miss book fairs. I used to want all the books! Well, not much has changed since then. LOL.

Hope there aren't any more tornado outbreaks. I'm glad she's alright.

  24. I hope the book fair went well! The tornadoes were so awful. I am so glad Emma wasn't in the area at the time. Still, how hearbreaking all around. Mouse has her spring break the end of this month. My husband will be spending the week with her while I work. I'm more than a little jealous, but it is what it is. I hope you have a great weekend.

  26. I'm so happy to hear everyone is safe and sound. I hadn't been on Facebook much the last week and only found out about the tornados a couple of days ago. 😱

    I hate DST, too! 😡
