This Week in Reading - January 20

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

No Escape Claws by Sofie Ryan - I discovered this series about a second hand store amateur sleuth last year and fell in love with it.  Super excited about this one!  (Publisher)

The Spies of Shilling Lane by Jennifer Ryan - I loved The Chillbury Ladies' Choir by this author so I'm super excited to read her new book which is also set during World War II - this time in London. (NetGalley)

The Goodbye Café by Mariah Stewart - This is the conclusion to one of my favorite trilogies and I'm super excited to see how it wraps up.  This one is about my least favorite sister so I'm a little nervous but my hopes are high.  (NetGalley)

Currently:

Reading:  Cloaked in Malice by Annette Blair and Gilt by Association by Karen Rose Smith

Listening:  I finished Dark Witch by Nora Roberts which I liked much better in audio than print (though it also could have been my mood at the time I read it) and am about 1/3 of the way through Phantom Evil by Heather Graham

Watching:  This season of Top Chef.  So far I'm enjoying it.  I like most of the chefs that competing this season.

Off the Blog:

This was a quiet week.  Still getting back into the school routine but other than hating to get up in the morning things have gone pretty smoothly.  No one around here is a morning person.  I've really been enjoying the books I'm reading/listening which has been really nice.  I went through some meh phases last year so it's been a delight to love everything I'm reading.  I'm hoping that will be the trend for the rest of the year - or at least be in this position more often than not.

On the Blog:

  1. No Escape Claws... another excellent punny title! I've noticed that Sofie Ryan seems to have animals figure prominently in her cozies... at least I think she does, I know she has the one series with the magical cats or whatever. I've kinda always wanted to try 'em.

I agree about the reading. I finally finished my first book of 2019 and it was awesome- I'm hoping that trend continues. :)

  2. Fun titles for your new reads. I'm not a morning person but I still can't sleep in. My internal alarm clock goes off at around 5:30 every morning and I can't go back to sleep. LOL

  5. Glad you are enjoying your reading right now, Katherine. Me, I am a morning person, but I fade as the evening goes on. Always been that way. I was always the first person asleep at a slumber party and the one that 'tricks' were played on. Ha!

  6. Yeah, my household doesn't hold morning people either... All night owls.
Glad your reading year has got off to a good start! I'm in a complete slump at the moment so I hope mine dramatically improves.

  8. The early morning are killer. We started that last week with my daughter and tutoring. We all have to be out of the house by 7:15 on Tues and Thurs, those are rough mornings. Everyone in this house prefers sleeping in and staying up late.
I hope you enjoy your new books!

Have a great week, Katherine! Happy Reading! xx

  9. I enjoyed Dark Witch, but haven't read the rest of that trilogy. I'm not a fan of magic. I loved the cover of Dark Witch, though. LOL.

No Escape Claws looks tempting. Enjoy, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  10. I have No Escape Claws coming up for review. I love that series. I read the first book in the Mariah Stewart series and enjoyed it. I need to read the other two.

I hope you have a great week! My Sunday post is here.

  11. Oh a new one from Jennifer Ryan, I think I'll wait and hopefully there will be an audiobook version, as that's how I read the Chilbury one and loved it. Must watch out for it.

  12. I love Top Chef! I'm not currently watching this season just because I don't have cable. I'm waiting for it to be on Hulu. I hope The Good Bye Cafe ends the way you're expecting.

  13. I am glad you got this one since you liked it so much. I have not read a Nora Roberts book yet. My aunt keeps telling me how great she is and I haven't read any of her books yet. Have a wonderful week.

  14. I know what you mean about not being a morning person! And I'm glad you are enjoying reading so much right now - I hate it when I lose enthusiasm for books...

  15. Everyone trying to get back to the routine and now MLK so we are back to our bad ways of stay up and sleep in. There are no morning people here. Unless it is a day I can sleep in, then I wake up an hour before the alarm goes off usually. UGH.

I hope you enjoy Phantom Evil; I'm reading that series on audio. I bought some, some are in KU, some in Audible Romance and some I am getting at the library.

If you enjoy historical mystery, I highly recommend the Lady Sherlock series by Sherry Thomas which Kimberly at Caffeinated is also reading. I love it so much.

Here's to all afternoon commitments, with mornings sleeping. Enjoy your reads. Anne - Books of My Heart

  19. I didn't make it through An Anonymous Girl but your review makes me wonder if I should try again, so maybe later. I might not have been in the mood as this month has been really weird reading wise. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!
