Friday Fives - Places I Want to Visit

I'm taking a bit of a break from my usual Friday Linkups to try something a little different.  Michelle over at Because Reading is Better Than Real Life   used to do a Five on Fridays that I always enjoyed and I've seen a few other variations on the theme.  As well I'm in a list making kind of mood so I thought I'd give start making random five lists.  Sometimes they'll be bookish other weeks not so much. Today is one of those not so much weeks and I'm thinking about the Top 5 Places I Want to Visit.  I'm keeping this list of the very realistic side and stick with places in the US and mostly places that are within driving distance.  I have a pretty strong tolerance for driving distance because I HATE spending money on plane tickets and rental cars and there's the added issue that I cannot pack light to save my life.

1.  Washington, DC -  We've been here several times but never with the Tornado.  I'm leaning towards going next year right at the end of school.  He'll be 10 1/2 and I think able to appreciate everything he's seeing.  Plus there's just so much to see!

2.  Charleston, South Carolina - I visited to Charleston years and years ago and J spent a couple of weeks there on a business trip and loved the city (and brought me back a huge sweetgrass basket which is one of my favorite things).  But it's been years and I desperately want to go back.

3.  St. Augustine, Florida - I've never actually been here but J and his family used to go here all the time when he was a kid and we've been talking about going back lately.  I love that there's a beach AND lots of history.

4.  Natchez, Mississippi - I've been to Natchez once years and years ago and it's gorgeous.  The old mansions, the history, the food.  I think it would be a fantastic weekend trip.

5. Savannah, Georgia - Somehow I've never been to Savannah but I really want to go!  I'm hoping to plan a trip in the near future.

Where are five nearby-ish places you want to visit?

  1. Yay! Always love to talk travel stuff. I worked in Washington DC for three years, and my brother lives there. My favorite place to hang out there has to be Union Station. Lived and worked in Charleston and the food was over the top yummy! Drove through St. Augustine and Savannah which sound fun. Never been to Natchez, but you make it sound so gorgeous! I live in NC but have never been to Nags Head, so that would be a neat day trip where I could get in a little fishing fun. Happy National Goof Off Day! Hugs...RO

  3. I'd love to go back and explore the US but it's so tough with all Trump's new regulations that I can't see me ever returning. Closer to home, I want to visit Loch Ness, Ben Nevis, St Andrews, Tobermory and Barra.

  4. I spent a day in Charleston about six years ago and it's such a gorgeous city. I don't know if I'll ever make it back, but I'd love to, especially to take more of the history tours.

I'd love to visit Minneapolis one day (one of my favorite books is set in Minnesota, and I've never been and have always wanted to go!).

  5. I think Charleston would be a lovely place to visit, and St. Augustine too. I love all the history tucked away into parts of Florida. :)

  6. I've been to Savannah and D.C. Both were quick trips and I definitely didn't get to see everything I wanted to. I'll be returning to D.C. in July, so hopefully I'll be able to catch things I wasn't able to see on my last trip. I hope you get to visit all these places!

  7. We went to Washington DC a few years ago and took a short detour to Virginia Beach before our vacation was over for some beach time. I would love to go to all of the places you mentioned.

  9. What a lovely list of tempting destinations! I hope you get to visit all these places within a reasonable timescale, Katherine. I absolutely agree with you about the business of travelling light - I can't do that, either!

  10. Washington DC is the only place I been on your list. I've been to Georgia and South Carolina, just not those specific places, but Savannah has always looked wonderful to me to visit. 🌞

  11. St Augustine is nice. My grandmom has a beach place up the road so we've gone a few times over the years. So many neat things to see :)
