This Week in Reading - August 5

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen - This looks creepy and unreliable and all kinds of thriller-y things.  Plus, it doesn't come out until January of 2019 so I don't think it technically counts as an addition to my TBR.  (Publisher)

And that's it!

Currently:

Reading:  Fade to Black by Heather Graham and Four Funerals and Maybe a Wedding by Rhys Bowen

Listening:  I finished The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan and am now back to Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

Watching:  We are loving The Great British Bake-Off (or Baking Show according to PBS).  I'm really glad we have at least a season or two left of the original cast. I love Mary Berry and Sue Perkins especially.  We're also watching Longmire and are now in the 3rd season.  So far I really like it though there is some character development that I'm not loving.

Off the Blog:

We had such a fun vacation!  I was a little nervous because we only decided we were going a couple of days in advance so there was a lot of scrambling but it all worked out.  We loved the hotel we were in and had a lot of fun doing the Gatlinburg stuff - Sky Lift, mirror mazes, and mini golf especially.  It's a bit cheesy but it is fun and the Tornado loved it.  We also went to the aquarium which is surprisingly good and has a big penguin exhibit.  We lucked up on feeding time and were able to get close enough to them to see that each penguin had a band on their wing with their name on it.  It turns out seeing a penguin named Wilson is incredibly cute.  We also went to the Titanic museum and the Science museum in Pigeon Forge.  The Science museum was just okay but the Titanic museum was really interesting and very interactive for kids.  They give you the name of a passenger or crew member at the beginning and the Tornado was a 3rd class passenger and paid special attention to their quarters.

School also started this week and so far so good.  There were a couple of kids that I wasn't thrilled to see on the class role but the good outweighs the bad and hopefully he can stay away from the troublemakers.  His main teacher is wonderful and he's already excited about the Maps and Globes chapters they have coming up.

My reading has been down the last little while but I'm hoping getting back to routine will help get it back up.  It's not that I don't like what I'm reading it's more that I'm just not wanting to read which is very weird!

  1. I liked Longmire but I couldn't decide if I wanted them to speed up the mystery of his wife's death or backburner it- they're kinda taking their sweet time w/ that. And are they leading up to Vic and Walt getting together? Kinda seems that way.

An Anonymous Girl does seem like a good thriller.

Glad you had a good vacation! I've never been to gatlinburg but I've heard it's fun.

  2. I can identify with liking what you are reading but just so slow to want to read, I am slow at the moment too, too many distractions. Your holiday sounds perfect for the Tornado, and wow school back, your summer holiday time seems to have gone in a blink. A 2019 book - sigh!

  3. I'm excited about An Anonymous Girl. I liked the first book they wrote together, but 2019 already. Sigh. And school - wow, your school begins quite early, but it probably gets out early too. We've watched all of Longmire and enjoyed it. Sorry it's now at an end, but the books go on. My husband stays caught up on those. I'm a few behind.

  4. I've been watching The Great British Bake-Off as well, which I never seem to tire of, plus The Mind of a Chef on Netflix, which is pretty neat. Glad you enjoyed your vacation so much! Hugs...RO

  5. Ha ha we got the same book, must have got the same email...lol. Them emails get me everytime. :)

I loved Longmire!Walt and Henry are my favorite people! I hated Branch. I can see where some of it might not be great but I think I was in it for Walt and Henry...lol. I wanted more and was sad when it ended. The books are SOOOOOOO different from the show. ;) Like Vic has a huge potty mouth among other things that I can't say. :)

    Have a great week!

  8. I ended up really loving Longmire, and now I'm missing the characters I enjoyed. Not the hated ones, of course. LOL

An Anonymous Girl is on my wish list! It does look amazingly twisty.

Your vacation sounds great! Thanks for sharing, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  10. I'm glad the holiday when so well - it sounds like a lovely time was had by all. It's great news that Tornado is settling into school so well - always a good sign when they are excited by the topic:). I hope you get your reading mojo back soon.

  11. I’m glad the vacation was successful. I’m watching the Bake-Off / Show, too! I was surprised that people make crackers at home. I guess I only eat them when I’m sick, so I just get them from the store. Have a great week!

  12. I am so glad you had a nice vacation. I think that sometimes those last minute trips end up being the most fun. I hope you enjoy your new book and it totally doesn't count :) I can't believe that school is already starting. My daughter goes back on the 16th of the month. It will be her final first day. Have a great week!

  14. My favourite holiday place is a tacky seaside resort with novelty hats and tourist stuff but I still love it! Fun is the most important thing on holiday and it sounds like you had plenty!

  15. Yay! That sounds like so much fun. I wondered how they would tell all the similar critters apart.

  16. I saw that Hoopla has the first season, maybe two, of The Great British Bake-Off so I might watch that soon. 🍰

Yay, for a successful impromptu vacation. I love the way cheesy activities make kids happy. Here's to a wonderful year of school for The Tornado. 🙌🙌🙌

  18. When I was in 8th grade, we went to the Houston museum and went thru the Titanic exhibit. It was the same - we got a card in the beginning and at the end we discovered who we were. I remember my cousin crying because she was a young rich socialite who had boarded with her little dog, and the dog didn't survive. I was (and probably still am) a little obsessed with the Titanic. Glad you had so much fun on your unplanned trip!
