Friday Linkups: Echo Lake

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice.

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
As you are reading a book, do you take notes for your review, write your review as you read, or something totally different?

My Answer:
I do occasionally take notes if there's a point that I really have to make or a name I'm afraid I won't remember.  Normally, though I just write the review after I've read it though I may do everything but my opinion (blurb, cover, buy link, etc) before I finish.

This week's book is Echo Lake by Carla Neggers.  I'm embarrassed to say how long I've had this eARC and I have no idea why I haven't read it as this is a series I enjoy AND the premise involves restoring and old house which is one of my favorites.  However, I'm digging this out of the neglected pile before I begin her new Christmas novella as this is a series best read in order!  I haven't started it yet but hope to tonight and am really looking forward to it!

The Beginning:
As much as Heather Sloan loved a bright New England winter day, chasing a puppy through knee deep snow in seventeen degrees wasn't her idea of fun.

My Thoughts:
It doesn't sound like my idea of fun either!  Seventeen degrees is not weather I want to go outside in especially if you throw knee high snow into the mix!

The 56:
Brody buttoned his jacket, trying to appear casual.  He wanted to get a read on Adrienne without alarming her.

My Thoughts:
I have no idea what's going on here since I haven't actually started this one but it sounds way more tense than I expected!

So what do you think?  Keep reading?

  1. LOL I can so relate to that opening. This sounds like one I'd enjoy; looking forward to your review.

As for reviews, I sometimes make notes while I'm reading but usually not.

    Happy Friday!

  2. I do pretty much the same thing for reviews.

The premise of the book does sound interesting!

  3. Oh, yes, I would keep reading...I love stories with old house restorations, too. I don't know why I haven't yet read this author, but I think I must!

Enjoy, and here's mine: “THE ACCIDENT SEASON”

  5. I think you should give this a read and a review! I love house restorations stories - spend a lot of time watching HGTV.

  6. I like the way the author lets us know the setting (New England, winter) and a little bit about the character (she has a puppy) in the opening. I like her already, and I'd keep reading to get to know her better.
    My Friday post features HOOT.

  7. I'm already complaining about 44° mornings. I would probably feel the same way as the character except I'd be cussing my head off while chasing the dog.

  8. Hi,
I love Carla Neggers books. Read a few of her's, but not this one. I'll have to check it out.
    Have a great day!

  10. Don't be embarrassed about your neglected pile cause I don't want to say how long I have had some of mine...ugh. 2016 is going to be operation clean up the eARC year. My goal is to not request as many, but we shall see how that goes cause I fumbled this month already....lol. So not requesting much next year will be very hard. :)

This looks like a good one, haven't read this author yet but she is on my list. :)

  12. The beginning sent chills through me. I'm not at all looking forward to winter. I have a couple books by this author on my TBR mountain but haven't got to them yet. This week I chose The Reluctant Duchess by Sharon Cullen from my review stack. Happy reading!

  16. Same about the notes; sometimes I'll write a few things done on my phone. But for the most part I just hope by the time I write my review I haven't forgotten everything. I keep telling myself just to write the review as soon as I'm done the book. But nope, laziness always wins out.

  17. I've never read anything by this author, but she does seem popular at the library. :)
