Book Blogger Hop Plus Book Beginnings and the Friday 56 - Old Haunts

Today I'm participating in 3 linkups!  The first is the Book Blogger Hop hosted by the Coffee Addicted Writer.  Today's question is:

When you view someone's profile what information do you like to see?

I've never really thought about it before but I always check the About Me section or the Blogger profile when I start to follow a new blog.  I like to see where people live.  Partly due to book availability.  I follow several blogs that are in the UK and sometimes they'll be raving about a particular book that unfortunately isn't available in the US.  If I know where they are I can be prepared.  I also like to see other interests or favorite genres so I know how well are tastes line up.  If I'm looking at a Blogger profile I want to be able to easily figure out which blog is the active one.  I've been to profiles that have about 9 blogs listed but none as the actual website.
What do you like to see?  Make sure you go visit Coffee Addicted Writer to see everyone else's answers!

This week for Book Beginnings hosted by Rose City Reader and Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice is the 3rd book in the Haunted Guesthouse series - Old Haunts by E.J. Copperman.  This is a mystery series where guesthouse owner Allison gets help solving mysteries by her two resident ghosts.

Here's the beginning:

"Careful!" I said.  All right, shouted. "We can't afford to drop this."
It wasn't so much that the sheet of wallboard Maxie, Paul and I were holding up was so expensive it couldn't be replaced; it was more that hauling another heavy sheet up here in the attic of my massive Victorian home and guesthouse would be enormously difficult."

And from page 56:

"I haven't found out much yet," I told my client.  "Big Bob was dead almost two years, and nobody ever even reported him missing to the cops." I let the question go unasked.

So what do you think?  Would you keep reading?  I didn't find either of these excerpts particularly grabbing but I've enjoyed the first 2 books in the series so I'm looking forward to reading more of it.

  3. I tend to not really look at the profiles because I tend to follow based on the style of the blog etc. I love Victorian homes and I might pick up this book just for that. Also, Big Bob sounds like a maffia name! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. I'm kind of curious about the whole Big Bob thing as well. I haven't gotten that far in the story to find out the details yet. It is set on the Jersey Shore so the mafia is always a possibility! I love Victorian homes or really any home restoration type subplot as well.

  6. About the opening: Sounds like they're renovating a Victorian home, and that interest me right away!
56: I'm curious about Big Bob and why no one missed him for two years.
    Sounds like an entertaining cozy.

    1. I love a home renovation subplot too! Can't think how many books I've read based solely on that! I'm very curious about the Big Bob issue but I haven't had much time to read more of the book. Looking forward to it though!

  8. Victorian house!? I'm in! Though, I'm a wimp when it comes to ghost anything! -__- Thanks for sharing and for stopping by my blog; have a wonderful weekend!

    1. The Victorian house always hooks me too. If it helps the ghosts are completely non-scary. Actually Paul and Maxie from the intro are both ghosts.

  9. I like the sound of Big Bob but sorry to hear of his plight. I love the descriptive writing in both snippets!

    1. Judging from her previous books either Big Bob wasn't a nice guy or we'll be seeing a lot more of him just in ghostly form!

  10. That is a unique premise - ghosts that help solve mysteries.

  13. In two years, didn't anybody miss him? I wonder if it's too late to identify him and stuff. That's sad.

    1. I'm dying to know the details on this one but haven't had much time to read more than the first 15 pages and Big Bog has yet to show up! Hopefully my review for this will be up Thursday so I'll be able to answer the questions then!

  14. I like a good mystery. As for blogger profile, a pic and real first name. I like to connect with others and refer to them by name.

    1. This is a pretty unique cozy series. Definitely agree about the blogger name. I hadn't really thought about it but I definitely prefer to have an actual name versus just the blog name.

  15. Ooh, a nice mystery! Sounds like a great weekend read.
I like to poke around in the About sections and often wonder why some don't even bother writing one!

  16. Why didn't anyone report Big Bob missing? That is what I want to know and I suppose is part of the mystery.

  17. The first thing I look for is the website link in their blogger profile so I can pop over, without that you start to play detective and even then there is no guarantees. Hope i'm one of the UK blogs you follow lol xx

  18. I've never done an About Me page. I know I should probably have one, but I've never felt comfortable doing one. I do read other people's though.

Love the cover for Old Haunts. I'd keep reading based on the quotes you shared. It sounds like an interesting read.
