Books from the Backlog - Lady Clementine

Today I'm linking up with Carole from Carole's Random Life of Books for Books from the Backlog.  I really enjoy the chance to feature a book that's been hiding in the piles of books for far too long!

Goodreads:  Lady Clementine by Marie Benedict

Blurb:  From Marie Benedict, the New York Times bestselling author of The Only Woman in the Room, comes an incredible novel that focuses on one of the people who had the most influence during World War I and World War II: Clementine Churchill.

In 1909, Clementine Churchill steps off a train with her new husband, Winston. An angry woman emerges from the crowd to attack, shoving him in the direction of an oncoming train. Just before he stumbles, Clementine grabs him by his suit jacket. This will not be the last time Clementine Churchill saves her husband.

Lady Clementine is the ferocious story of the brilliant and ambitious woman beside Winston Churchill, the story of a partner who did not flinch through the sweeping darkness of war, and who would not surrender either to expectations or to enemies.

Why It Needs to Come Off the Shelf:  I really want to pick up the book this author wrote about Agatha Christie but I've heard some mixed reviews on the author so I feel like I need to read the book I have by her that's already on my shelf (and about a person I'm not as invested in) before I pick up that book.

  1. Lately when I pull a book from my shelves that has sat there many years unread, it no longer seems to have the same appeal as when I purchased it:( Hope this one is a good read for you.

  2. I have enjoyed other books by the author, but this book was a little flat for me. I think it was the subject matter. Worth a try though.

  6. I'm at the point where if a book that's been on the shelf for a long time no longer appeals it makes a perfect donation to the neighborhood Little Free Library.
