Living with Leukemia (And Some Reading) - October 11

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

We made it home for the weekend and brought back a ton of books and warmer clothes which was fun.  It was so good to be home.  The last time I had been in my house was at 2 in the morning 5 hours after Will was diagnosed desperately trying to pack what I would need for an unknown period of time.  To say I was a bit out of it is a serious understatement.  It was a bit surreal to be back but lovely.   As much as we enjoy our quirky little apartment and love the old historical building with all the fabulous places to eat it will be wonderful to be home when we finally get there.

Will had what we hope is his last high dose chemo last week and got through it like a champ.  Unfortunately, his numbers bottomed out which means his immune system had gone on vacation.  This isn't unexpected and isn't a bad thing but it did mean that we've had to take a lot of precautions to minimize exposure to anything.  We had planned on kind of taking a fall break and going to a museum or two or maybe the zoo again but we changed that pretty quickly to lots of movie watching and game playing in our own four little walls.

I finally bought a crock pot!  I have one at home but it's a huge one and I don't really have the space for it here and had been thinking about buying a smaller one anyway.  We've been eating out a LOT but things look like they might start getting more routine and I'd like to cook more and a crock pot seems like a good way to do that.  Now I just need to find my favorite recipes and maybe a few new ones.

The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald and 15 Minutes of Flame by Cristin Brecher

Listening: Elephants Can Remember by Agatha Christie

Watching:  We have been doing a Jurassic Park marathon.  I haven't really set down and watched them but my husband and Will have and they've been loving them and I've been enjoying the little snippets I've seen.

What are you reading this week?  Happy reading!

  1. Hope you enjoy the Readers of Broken Wheel, it was entertaining on audio anyway. Hmm all the best with crock pot meals, I guess with winter coming on they make a lot of sense. Hope Will's immune system is cranking up better as time goes on. Take care, what a journey!

  2. You've been doing the right things and looking after Will's health really well. How nice to get back to your own home after such a while-bet that feels a bit weird!

  3. Glad you guys got to go home for a bit and switch out your clothes and books. Have been keeping all of you in my thoughts. Take care!

  4. Hi Katherine! So glad you made it home for a bit and that you could get some books. I can "hear" the relieve in your post.

I have The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend on my kindle and really want to read it. Might only get to it next year though, but can't wait to see your views on it.

I wanted to use Elephants can remember for Friday Fives this past Friday, but I got home too late to start blogging. Will hopefully use it this coming Friday!

Hope you guys are well, you are in my thoughts quite often.

    Lots of love,

    Mareli & Elza

  5. Sorry to hear about will. Hope your coping

  6. A crockpot sounds like a great idea, between that and movie marathons it should be getting pretty cosy. Hope Will's immunity starts going up soon

  7. Thanks for the update. I hope things continue to go according to plan for Will. I’m keeping your family in my thoughts.

  8. I am glad you were able to go home for a bit to get some stuff. I am praying for Will every day. Sending you lots of love and hugs.
I have a crock pot and rarely every use it, the summer is one time I think it would be good to try since it's nice to come home to a meal and not have to turn on the stove. Pinterest has a lot of recipes, I need to start getting back into pinning more.

Have a great week, Katherine! HUGS! oxox

  9. I know it must have been great to be home even just for bit. I am sorry that Will's number have dropped and I hope they bounce back quickly. I have been thinking about you guys a lot. I hope you have a great week!

  10. Glad you got to spend a little time at home. Also glad you bought another crock pot to use in the apartment. I hope you share some of the recipes you make. I love small kitchen appliances and have 4 crock pots and 2 of the Crock-Pot Trio Cook and Serve Slow Cookers. Yes, I have a problem. Sending you all lots of hugs and prayers!

  11. That's great that you were able to spend some time at home. I will keep Will in my prayers. Many hugs and positive thoughts for all of you.

  12. I'm glad you were able to get home for a bit and, I am happy to hear that the intense treatments may soon be over for Will. Wishing only the best for Will and the family.

  13. I'm glad you were able to get home and collect up some warmer clothes and other things. And enjoy your new Crock-pot! I don't tend to use mine much during the summer, but in the fall, I start thinking about stews and soups and chicken-in-a-pot.

We continue to pray for Will. I hope his immune system starts to bounce back now that the high-dose chemo is (hopefully) finished. I know you'll be glad when you can all go home to stay, but at least the books and warmer clothes will keep you cozy and entertained in your apartment.

I enjoyed The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend; I hope you do, too. Take care, and may this week bring sunshine and moments of joy.

  14. It must have felt really odd returning home to collect up warmer clothes and more books. I hope the new Crock pot works well, we are just thinking about casseroles and soups again, now that the weather is getting chillier, too.

I hope Will's immune system soon starts to recover - he is often in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm intrigued by The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend and hope you enjoy it - what a wonderful title!

  15. Glad you got home for a little bit. Crock-pots are wonderful. I am thinking of you, your family and especially young Will. Hugs to you all!

  16. Glad you got home! I hope Will makes a speedy recovery.

    Here’s my Sunday Post!

  17. There's no place like home. I'm so glad you had that respite and were able to get some of your things. I hope you enjoy the crockpot. The weather is cooling which is a great time for soups and stews but you can do man more things with them.

  18. So nice for you to make it home for a bit. Glad your son is staying strong through this ordeal. A movie marathon or two sounds great. We've been wanting to watch all the Star Wars movies in order. The crockpot was always our go-to device when we were both working. Now we use it mainly in the winter.

    Have a great week.

  19. Glad you got to take a trip home even if you had to stay inside and watch movies and play games, that can still be fun! :) Also glad you got to grab up some stuff you needed for the change in weather. Continuing to pray for the little guy!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  20. I'm glad you got that time at home and I hope you enjoy your new crock pot!
Movies, playing games etc sounds like a lovely plan.

  21. I bet it was nice being able to collect some home comforts as you settle in more to your temporary apartment. Sorry to hear you weren't able to enjoy your plans of days, but it sounds like you've been making the most of it with movie marathons (I love the Jurassic Park & World films). Also great timing of picking up a new crockpot - autumn & winter is the perfect time for those kinds of cosy, comfort meals.

Happy reading and a lovely week to you!

  22. I'm sorry you had to cancel your plans for some outings. That's always a bummer. At least you found ways to enjoy being at home :) A Jurassic Park marathon sounds fun.

Enjoy your new crockpot! I'm always looking for new crockpot recipes, so be sure to share if you come across some good ones.

  23. Good thing for Plan B. I'm glad you were able to easily adjust for him. I hope he is comfortable and sleeping well. I am loving The Ravenels series by Lisa Kleypas. I have the last book downloaded last night.

  24. I am glad you got to go home for a little bit. I hope Will is doing a bit better now.

How are you finding The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend? I enjoyed it. I hope you are also enjoying 15 Minutes of Flame. I really liked it, although there were a couple of instances I wanted to shake some sense in Stella. My poor husband got to listen to my rant about her stunt in the middle of the night--by herself, no less.

I hope you have a good week. Sending healthy and positive vibes yours and Will's way.

  25. That feeling of coming home after a long hospital stint is wonderful. So glad that you are home, and that your son is doing well! Some downtime at home sounds like it was perfect, and Jurassic Park - love those movies!!! Good choice. :)

I also loved Readers of Broken of Wheel Recommend!

  26. Thank goodness the high dose chemo is behind him, now. He is such a trooper! 💜💜💜

I think Jurassic Park 3 was the last one I saw. How many did they end up making? 🍿

Maybe that's my demise with crock pots. I have a huge one. Even the smallest insert is pretty big. I should look around for a small one. I have about 60 crock pot recipe books on my Kindle. 😅

I hope your week has started out well. Enjoy being cozy inside. 🌞
