This Week in Reading - January 26

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:


Death in the Doorway by Diane Kelly - House flipping, a ramshackle Colonial, and a cat names Sawdust.  How could I resist? (NetGalley)

Currently:


Reading:  Claw Enforcement by Sofie Ryan and Sconed to Death by Lynn Cahoon

Listening:  A Perilous Undertaking by Deanna Raybourrn though I haven't had much time to listen this week.

Watching:  We have been flying through the Disney movies on Disney + this week.  So far we've watched a movie a day for 4 days.

Off the Blog:

We are back in Louisiana!  I didn't realize how much I missed it until I got out of the car at the hotel.  It looks like we are going to be doing 50% of our time here for the foreseeable future which will mean lots of back and forth and living out of a hotel room but it's fine.  We've got our routines nailed down pretty well.

This week I had to go up to my grandparents' house to meet with the woman who runs the estate sale place in area.  They lived about an hour from here and it's a pretty drive but it was a rough day.  Luckily the Tornado and I headed straight to the beach after it was over and that made everything better.  We did a lot of running and my ankles were not ready!  I'm super sore but it was fun.  Then we went to Chalmette which is the site of the Battle of New Orleans from the War of 1812.  It's the first battle field I've drug the Tornado to (he's 10) and he found it interesting but found it hard to visualize.  I think I'm going to look for a reenactment or something to help.  Chalmette is also a regular stop for one of the riverboats coming out of New Orleans so that was fun to see.  It was all decorated for Mardi Gras because everything is decorated for Mardi Gras.  I passed a couple who were apparently from Boston and I don' think they were prepared for the temperature.  They were melting.  We are heading home next week just in time to get ready to head to Disney World and then will be heading home just in time to head back here!

    Dead in the Doorway looks so cute. I think I'd like that one as well. 😊 I hope you are enjoying your current books! I am glad you arrived safely in Louisiana. It sounds like everything is falling into place! I hope you have a great week, Katherine!

    I'm really glad that you are able to adapt so well so your current lifestyle. Reenactments are great to give children a sense of what it was like. I hope the coming week is a good one - and your ankles soon recover:)

    Hope you enjoy Dead in the Doorway, I don't dnf many cozies but I never finished the first one in that series so guess it wasn't one for me. I am listening to Claw Enforcement! I love that series!

    Glad the back and forth is working for you, not sure how I would feel about that if I was in your shoes, but guess it helps that you like where your going. :)

    I'm glad the 50/50 seems to be working out so well for you. And I can't believe the Tornado is already 10! These kids are growing up so fast - I feel like you were just posting about him being 5! How cool that you were able to take him to the battle site - I think a reenactment could be a neat way to help him really see it!

    Lol at the melting comment!! I love New Orleans and have been there a dozen times, but my Michigander self melts in the heat and humidity.. lol. I love it to pieces though.

    Those cozy mysteries look so cute!

    I love visiting Louisiana, but I haven’t been in years. It sounds like you all had a great time. I can’t believe it’s almost Mardi Gras time again. Time sure does fly!

    Wow what a traveller! And so interesting that you look forward to returning to Louisiana. Not sure I'd like to live out of a hotel for so long though. Yes Dead in the Doorway does sound good.

    I love those cozy covers! So much traveling but it sounds like you are having some great experiences. I think a reenactment would be a perfect way to visualize a battleground. Have a great week!

    It sounds like the 50/50 gives you the best of both worlds and what you wanted. It's great you can go to a new place and take in all the history, arts and culture. We rode a steamboat to Chalmette when we were there. The warmer weather and beach are great this time of year!
