Friday LInkups - False Mermaid

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question
How many book clubs do you belong to?  If you belong to an in person book club, do you have meetings in the day or evening?  Do you meet at someone's house or meet at a local restaurant or coffee house?

My Answer:
I used to belong to a book club when I belonged to a mom's group when the Tornado (now age 8) was a baby/toddler.  We always met in the evening and at first we met at homes but than moved over to a local restaurant that was fairly centrally located.  I'm considering joining one or two book clubs that are run by my local library branch and they meet during the day in the conference room of the library.

This week's book is one that has been sitting on my shelf for far too long.  I read the first Nora Gavin books years ago and loved them but had a hard time finding more to the series.  Than I kind of forgot about it until I stumbled upon the 3rd book - False Mermaid by Erin Hart - at a used bookstore and scooped it up immediately.  I remember very little of the first two books but so far so good.

The Beginning:
Death was close at hand, but the wounded creature leapt and twisted desperate to escape.

My Thoughts:
Well that's a little more brutal than I usually like to read!

The 56:
Heart still racing, she checked the locks on the doors and windows.  Everything was secure; it was just a terrible dream.

My Answer:
I can relate to this 56!  I don't really have nightmares but I have been known to wake suddenly and go check all the locks.  I'm thinking too many crime shows!

So what do you think?  Keep reading?

  1. I'd keep reading. That first line definitely gets the ball rolling... I'm assuming maybe that's the mermaid that's in trouble? Has me curious.

I think an in-person book club would be a lot of fun.

  2. I always wanted to be art of a book club but don't know where to find one! Online on my mom's board we talk weekly about the books we read though so that is something. Happy reading!!

  3. First of all, I am in two book clubs. Both are ones that I ran when I worked at the library. I still do the mystery club as a volunteer and I have attended the other one (run by another volunteer) off and on over the years. I occasionally moderate books for that one - usually if a mystery-type book is selected. I used to attend another group at another local library, but honestly, two clubs are about all I can handle at one time.

As to the book you shared, I read the first book in this series several years ago. Liked it a lot - a body in the bog, right? I'm glad you reminded me because I meant to continue with this author. Your teasers sound good.

  4. I've never been in a book club - virtual or real life. Reading, for me, is a solitary pursuit. I would keep reading the book you shared. It sound good. This week I am featuring A Death of No Importance by Mariah Fredericks. Happy reading!

  6. Ooh, I hate nightmares that wake me up, heart racing. I have one in which I think I've heard a door bell...and that doesn't seem too scary, except that I am terrified of the doorbell in the middle of the night. It is never a good thing!

Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “SAINTS FOR ALL OCCASIONS”

  8. It makes me curious about the mermaid, who is she and what is the meaning of her presence.
Does your froyo place have boba as toppings also? My youngest likes popping boba. Sometimes she'll put sour gummy worms too. I think you should treat yourself and bring a book along.

  12. I have never really belonged to the type of book club where everyone read and discussed the same book. I went to one a few years ago but only attended twice because they didn't discuss the book much, they drank a lot of wine, though, ha ha, and I don't drink wine. XD

  13. The last in person book club I was a part of ended up splitting up because only like 2 people read, others just showed up to eat and drink.
