Friday Linkups - A Week in Winter
It's Friday linkup time! I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice
This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
If you celebrate Christmas, do you feel the need to stop reading anything but Christmas-themed romances as the holiday season starts?
My Answer:
No not really. I do like to read seasonally and I love a good Christmas themed romance but I think it's always fun to find some non romance Christmas themed books. I've found some really great mysteries and middle grade books that center around the holiday.
This week's book is one I've been wanting to read for ages - A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchey. Binchey's name has been on my authors I must try list for years and when I read the blurb for this book I knew it was the one for me. I can never resist a decaying mansion! I've ended up going the audio route and am finding it an absolute delight and while there are no mentions of Christmas it's full of winter-y weather and heartwarming stories - so perfect for this time of year!
The Beginning:
Everyone had their own job to do on the Ryans' farm in Stoneybridge.
My Thoughts:
I like the sound of this. I can just picture the whole family going about their tasks.
The 56:
On the days when the Atlantic storms battered the house and the rain came in horizontally, there were old lofts to be cleared out, furniture to be shifted, woodwork to be painted.
My Thoughts:
I love this image! The cozy house staying warm inside while the storms rage outside. Plus I can't help but want to explore the lofts.
So what do you think? Keep reading? Do you read only Christmas reads?

I re-read a few oldies again, and pick up 1 or 2 new books, but because I watch so many Christmas movies and programs, I tend to stay with my suspense novels overall. The 56 does seem quite interesting Katherine. Hugs...and Happy Friday! RO
ReplyDeleteI have read everything by Binchey and loved the stories. I'm sorry she died as she was a wonderful storyteller. Yes, keep reading!
ReplyDeleteOoh Middle grade book centered around holidays would be awesome! Do you have any suggestions? :D Happy reading!

This book is one from Maeve Binchy that I have not yet read. It sounds wonderfully cozy...and I love houses with lofts, too. Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “A SEASON TO LIE”
ReplyDeleteI like a good book set in winter, which is strange since I really hate winter...lol. :)

Week in Review
Sometimes I am super in the mood for Christmas romances, but sometimes I'm not at all. And sometimes I read Christmas themed books in July. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds good! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI read and enjoyed this one a while back. I'm a big fan of Maeve Binchy.
ReplyDeleteI used to love Maeve Binchy and then I read a Christmas Short Story Collection by her that was so dreadful and depressing I have never gone back to her again. I hope this book is better than the last one I read by her. My Friday Quotes for The 57 Bus
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way! I like to read other books during the holidays.

I was inspired by Erin as she read two RaeAnne Thayne Christmas books. I put myself on the hold list for one of her books and have another marked for future reading. I don't usually read Christmas themed books around this time, usually because I'm a chicken running around w/her head cut off.
ReplyDeleteOh I like Christmas and wintery books this time of the year! Even if they're not romance.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Friday Reads
Love Maeve Binchey, but not really a fan of short stories. So this isn't one of my favourites. Glad you are enjoying it though.
ReplyDeleteAs for only reading Christmas romances, definitely not! I'd be bored to tears. I like to mix my genres right up.
Oh, I loved the 56 for this book!
ReplyDeleteChristmas Romances would have me running and screaming in the opposite direction. Ha ha. I wouldn't mind a good traditional Christmas story, though. I read A Christmas Carol a couple of years ago and I loved it. :)
I can only do so many Christmas books until I get overwhelmed by them. I haven't read Binchy in ages!
ReplyDeleteI don't read Christmas themed books either. I just keep reading what I'm reading, because I'm so busy either working during the crazy holiday season, or shopping for gifts. I'll be lucky if I can finish the book in any capacity.

I like the non-romance Christmas reads, too. I read A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig a week or so ago. Very good book.
