This Week in Reading - August 20

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Sweet Tea and Sympathy by Molly Harper - I read one Molly Harper book a few years ago and really loved and have been wanting to read more ever since.  I haven't been quite sure where to start so when I saw this new book on NetGalley I figured that was a pretty good place.  I'm really looking forward to this one!  (NetGalley)

And that's it!  Just one book this week and not much pending.  I need to have a some intake slowdown so I can get caught up!

Currently:

Reading: Murder Go Round by Carol J. Perry and The Luster of Lost Things by Sophie Chen Keller

Listening: A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas

Watching: Hard Knocks on HBO which is kind of a behind the scenes at spring training for an NFL team.  This year it's about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Off the Blog:

Comet is getting bigger but he is no less a brat.  He gets very annoyed if I'm gone a lot during the day and will follow me around yowling at me until I sit down.  He's pretty impossible to get a decent picture of because as soon as he sees the camera he's trying to figure out what it is.  I have lots of close ups of his nose.  He's definitely way more people oriented than any cat I've ever had which is pretty fun.

This weekend we're out of town.  We headed up to Tennessee to watch the eclipse and are really looking forward to the trip.  We are going with Jason's brother and the brother's wife.  I really like my brother-in-law and sister-in-law but we've never traveled with them so I'm a little curious to see how it goes.  I think the only problem we're facing is wishy washiness about what to do because neither couple wants to offend the other.

I'll be home for 1 day and then I'm hopping in the car and heading down to south Mississippi to visit my grandparents which I'm looking forward too.  We've gotten a little spoiled with the motor home and are doing a lot more traveling.  We've been in town almost 6 weeks and I'm going stir crazy but I have a feeling all the running around next week will fix that!

Speaking of traveling J and I are talking about taking a big trip sometime next year and are trying to figure out where to go.  We've talked about San Diego, Montreal, Boston and surrounding areas, and Iceland but just can't decide.  If you could go anywhere where would you want to go?  Where have you been and loved?  Give me suggestions!

  5. I love the cover of Sweet Tea and Sympathy I will have to check it out. My sister just got a kitten as well he's a wee rascal and so curious about everything. If I could visit one place in the world it would be New Orleans.

  6. Comet is super cute and makes me broody for a kitten! Top of my travel bucket list is Japan, I just think it would be so different and am hoping to make it there for my next big birthday (which is till 4 years away! But I like to plan!).

  7. Why is there nothing cuter than kittens? Enjoy the eclipse.

  8. Yay on just getting one book! I've also been focusing on NOT getting too many this month. Trying my best xD
Yay, kittykins! More photos! So super cute. I'm glad kitty loves people, my kitty is more of a loner type, disappears into some nook or cranny when people come to the house :D

  9. Comet is so adorable!!! Seeing the total eclipse sounds exciting! We had an almost total eclipse here I live back when I went to high school and it was amazing!

  10. Your Sweet Tea & Sympathy looks like a fun read, love the cover! I didn't know you got a kitten while I was away. He's a little rascal, so very adorable! My older cat is that coloring and he always gets compliments on his looks :)

I've been to San Diego (lived near there), Montreal as a young teen, and Boston a few times in past years. All great places to visit. Iceland is on my bucket list, and I would choose that, just because it's so different and supposed to be beautiful. Husband wants Ireland, so when we do have money for overseas trip, we'll see where we go.

    Have a great weekend!

  11. Iceland sounds beautiful and amazing. We have been to Ireland a few times and England once, the scenery is wonderful and the food and all of it. But if you want to take your motor home you could pick something like San Diego. The west is on our bucket list.

Hope the trip for the eclipse goes well. we had reservations in Columbia SC but Doug's father died and the memorial is Tuesday. We will be here but since Doug is an amateur astronomer you can bet he will get the telescope out for solar observing tomorrow.
Once all the family leaves after the funeral I will get back to a routine again. Haven't been blogging or visiting or anything lately.

  12. Hmmm. I've been trying to plan a big trip for years but then I had my first child so those plans went out the window! I really want to see the Biltmore Mansion in NC at some point and make the drive through states like Rhode Island to see the leaves changing in Autumn. As a Florida girl, that really appeals to me! :)
Good luck with the trip to Tennessee! I have family traveling up there for the eclipse as well! Have a great week! :)

  13. I wish I could travel all over! I want to travel around the UK, England, Ireland, Scotland even Wales. I have been to Germany and loved it! The Philippines have some really nice beaches but you get upcharged for being white as they think all Americans are rich...lol

For the eclipse I am doing nothing but attending my first Photoshop class as the semester is starting. :) Have fun in Tennessee!

You need to try Molly Harper's vampire series Jane Jameson on audio. You will love Amanda Ronconi she is my all time favorite narrator and she gets Molly's snark!

Happy reading and have a great week!

  15. Comet looks really cute - and a real bundle of mischief! I do envy you going to see the eclipse - we got the chance to see a total eclipse back in the 1990s down in Cornwall and it was an amazing experience which I'd recommend. I'm definitely glad I had a chance to go through one. The drop in temperature as it gets steadily darker and the birds go quiet is really eerie. I look forward to hearing all about it next week:)). 16. Can't wait to hear about the eclipse. Our school district bought special glasses for every person in the school. My library, I suspect, will be home for those who can't go out. I imagine I'll be streaming the eclipse live.

  17. I love Tennessee it is such a pretty state. We are in direct path of eclipse and will be able to see full eclipse from our back deck. I am excited about Harper's book too. Have a blast on your trip!

  18. I'm going to have to check out Hard Knocks - I do love football! Have fun on your trips!

  19. I live in Tennessee in the path of direct sight. Our kids are being dismissed early from school, but we plan to stay inside, we live up in a mountain about 3500 feet up. So, not outside for me. ;) Hope you enjoy time here in Tennessee and the new book too.

    Happy readin',

  20. Comet is adorable! I'd rather have a cat following me around and wanting my attention than one who ignores me (I've had both). Such a cutie!

Hope your trip with your BIL and his wife goes well! Always a gamble when you travel with new people but it helps that you all like each other.

I'd highly recommend Iceland for your next big trip! We went years ago and loved it! Would love to go back one day because there's so much to see and do and we only scratched the surface. The country is incredibly beautiful!

  21. I just want to hug and kiss your kitten. So adorable. We're watching the eclipse here in NC, and thank goodness, I only have to drive 2 minutes to do so, at the park outside the local library. They even provide the glasses for FREE. Yay to travel. Everyone will tell you that you can't go wrong with a visit to San Diego. I loved it in Montreal because they had all these neat outside cafes, and cool places to shop. I was stationed in Mississippi years ago, and that was an adventure. (lol) Hugs...

  22. I have Sweet Tea & Sympathy too and I can't wait to read it. I haven't read her books so I figure the first book in a new series is a great place to start. Comet is so adorable and my dog is the same way about taking pictures lol. I hope you have a great time wherever you decide to go. It's so hard to pick just one place but I would love to go anywhere I can relax at the beach. Have a great week!

  23. Your cats are adorable! I live in SoCal and San Diego is a popular destination for vacation, even for those of us who live in beach cities so I definitely recommend it if you've never been :)

Check out my Sunday Post here :)

  24. Comet is adorable. Have been hearing all about the eclipse so interesting that you are hoping to travel and catch it. Hope for a clear sky. Hmm lots of trip places. Iceland is a little out of left field compared to all the other places. I'd go there!!

  25. Comet is such a little cutie. I adore kittens:) My bosses went north to see the eclipse so I have a four day weekend and plan to spend it by the pool with my nose in a good book. Have fun at the viewing and your trip sought too:)

  26. Comet is adorable. I love that he "yells" at you.

I am looking forward to your The Luster Of Lost Things review. I should be finished by the time you post.

Well, Montreal and Boston are two of my favorite cities! Boston is also not that far from Salem and Cape Ann so there are little side day trips you can take. You have to eat at Charlie's in Gloucester.

Enjoy your trips and have a stellar week. :)

  27. I've been to San Diego, Montreal and Boston - all great cities with plenty to do and see. Haven't been to Iceland but I hear it's nice. Been to Ireland twice - such a fun vacation! Can't wait to hear where you decide to go!
I think we're supposed to have clouds for the eclipse. I'm in the upper midwest. Guess we'll watch the livestream from NASA.

  28. So much awwwww! Also, I've not been to any of those 3 cities, so I can't help. But I hope your trip will be amazing! Happy reading!

  29. Comet is such a cutie! I have been really tempted to request the Molly Harper book but need to get caught up. I hope you enjoyed the eclipse. I thought it was pretty neat. Have a great week!

  30. Comet is so adorable! I've only had people loving cats and so that's all I know. :-) I hope you are having safe travels and a fun time! We are spending a week in the mountains. One last summer fling before school starts next week. It's so beautiful up here. I wish we didn't have to go back to the city... Have a great week, Katherine!
