Friday Linkups: Bay of Sighs

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
How do you organize your blog in terms of what is in your side bar?  Do you have categories and defined sections in your side bar?

My Answer:
I haven't spent too much time on my sidebars though I do try and make sure that the index and most popular posts are visible.

This week's book is a take 2!  Back at the end of 2016 I had planned on reading Bay of Sighs by Nora Roberts.  I had really enjoyed the first book in the trilogy and figured the 2nd book would be the perfect way to end 2016.  However, things got busy and the book never quite got read.  This summer I'm trying to read more of what I want to read instead of sticking so strictly to a schedule and this one came to mind.  It seems like the perfect summer read because it's a fast paced romantic suspense AND there's mermaids.  I'm not very far into this one but I typically enjoy Roberts' books so my expectations are pretty high.

The Beginning:
For an instant, like a single beat of wings, Annika scented the sea, heard the voices lifted in song.  Here then gone, a blur within the blur of color and speed but it swelled in her heart like love.

My Thoughts:
This is a little heavy on the description.  I do like the feel of just a hint of singing somewhere in the ocean.

The 56:
"We're all afraid, Anni."
Surprised she looked up at him.  "No one seemed afraid but me."
"Every last one of us," he corrected, "If we weren't afraid we'd be crazy.  You know what courage is."  He said it, didn't ask it, but she nodded.
"It's bravery.  It's facing the dark."

My Thoughts:
I like this exchange between the 2 main characters.  He's not teasing her for being scared or trying to tell her that it's all okay.  He's just telling her that she's not alone.

So what do you think?  Keep reading?  Do you have any books you meant to read ages ago but are finally just getting around to picking up?

  1. Ah, my sidebars have my reading list so it's easy to check on the link, get to site and see what my favorite bloggers have updated. Plus I have some organizational gagets to help me.

If there are mermaids I would keep reading, sounds like a fun book and the caharacters have good dialogue between them.

By the way, Thanks for your comment about the camper, I left you a long reply there!

  2. Yes, keep reading! I love that beginning and that conversation snippet.
I do kind of have sections on my sidebar. I used to change it a lot but I realized that no one really cares. I think a search bar and contact links are important for the sidebar. Everything else is fluff.

  4. Ah, I love mermaids! My younger daughter actually collects mermaid items: wall plaques, jewelry, t-shirts, statues. They're popular out here :)

I've had the first book of this series on my kindle for quite a while and just haven't picked it up. Wasn't sure if it was for me... but so many people loved this series. Maybe I will pick it up this summer and get into the trilogy-- enjoy it!

  7. I had no idea Nora Roberts had mermaids or supernatural type elements in her books. Nice cover too.

I try not to clutter my sidebar but I go back and forth on whether I've been successful or not!

  8. I would like to add the Follow Me with links to Goodreads and Twitter on my blog, but every time I try, it doesn't come out right. I need to find time to really work on that. I like how yours is very straight forward and simple, Katherine.

I really like the Friday 56 you shared. I use that on my daughter often. :-)

Thanks for sharing! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Katherine.

  16. This does sound like a perfect read for summer. I hope that it is enjoyable for you. I know exactly what you mean about a strict reading schedule. I hope to read books just for the fun of it this summer myself! :)

  17. I love Nora Roberts' books too, the cover does give mermaid vibes with the whole mermaid tail and all but at first I thought it was out of KingKong or something lol.
Also, I really hope you pick up Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh(you commented on my blog regarding Silver Silence) because it is amazing and I would be very glad if you read it!

  20. Whoa, that beginning is more than a bit description heavy.

I do the sidebar differently on each of my many blogs. I try to emphasize what a new visitor needs to be able to use the site effectively. Probably should update mine again.

  21. This is a series that I want to read. I hope you enjoy it. I probably have way too many things going on with my sidebars. Anytime I start to change them, I don't know what I want to do so I just leave it alone.

  22. I try to do the same thing with my sidebar, but until I learn how too tidy everything up nice and organized it has to be for now. Have a great weekend, happy blog hopping. Here is my blog hop answer.
