Friday Fives - Five Non bookish Things I Loved in 2024

I'm in a list making kind of mood so I thought I'd start making random five lists.  Sometimes they'll be bookish other weeks not so much.  This week I'm looking back at 2024 to 5  Non-Bookish Things I Loved.  I also included a couple of dog pictures because this post doesn't really lend to photos but I always like sharing photos of my pup!  Oh and one of us meeting wolves because that was one of the best non-bookish things that happened in 2024

These heated eye masks from Amazon (though I've gotten them from Ulta a time or two.  I get migraines, tension headaches, and sinus headaches a decent amount and I love these eye masks.  They're single use and work kind of like those pocket handwarmers where they start warming as soon as the package is opened.  The best thing is that they have ear straps that are so thin I can lie on my side without it causing my neck to be in an unnatural angle.  If you get any kind of headache where it feels like there is pressure behind your eyes I highly recommend these.

Universal Yums - This is a subscription box that focuses on a different country every month.  I had the medium sized box for awhile but then switched to the biggest box.  It's so fun!  The shipping is pretty fast and each box includes a pamphlet that has information on each snack - flavor profile, history, and a few other things.  The boxes also include stickers - a few that are just pretty but some that are for rating the snacks so you can make it a group event.  They also had a fun advent calendar that was candy from around the world.

The Sims 4 - I was a big player of The Sims back in the days of the original but have only been an intermittent player since then and haven't played for years.  But this year I got a new laptop and had some free time and decided to start again.  I really love that the starter game is free though it is WAY too easy to go on a bit of a binge buying expansion packs.  I have to be careful to only play it when I don't have too much to do though!

Lands End Pajamas
- I've bought flannel sheets from Lands End for ages but this year I branched out and tried their pajamas and am in love.  My favorites are this set and I have three sets and am seriously tempted to get more.  The sizes are generous.  I'm typically in between a small and a medium and the small fits me with room to spare.  They also always have some kind of discount  and the material holds up to lots of wear and washing.

Packing Cubes - We did some traveling in 2024 for the first time since 2019 and I forgot just how wonderful packing cubes were.  I have the vacuum sealed ones but I like the regular ones just as much.  It makes pre-packing and organizing so much easier.  I don't know how I packed before them and it's just so nice to have something that legitimately makes something work better.

What were some of your favorite non-bookish things in 2024?

  1. I'm glad you posted photos of Rover! Saw your comment about the dog book I posted and I know you'd like it. Did not know that about Ina Garten and I looked at some articles. Wow. It was her scheduling coordinator handling that but still....

Favorites for me was a cloth heating pad whihc you put in the microwave for 3 minutes. No cords, it heats up and feels amaing on your neck, or wherever you ant the heat.

  3. Cute pictures of your dog! Some of my favorite non-bookish things in 2024 are game nights with my sisters, nephews and nieces. We do it every month and play some really fun games like Wingspan, Star Realms, Small World, Ex-Libris, Sushi-Go, and Villains. :D

  5. I think the pup is the favorite! The eye things sound lovely and I wouldn't dare going looking for the Sims! I know I'd become addicted.

  6. Aww... Rover! 🤗

Your wolf encounter looked amazing. 🐺

My favorite thing from 2024 was pickles, ha ha. I'm not a big pickle person, but I was craving sweet bread and butter pickles. After one of my son's Cellular Biology professors gave a 45 minute lecture on the evils of High Fructose Corn Syrup (she gives it every year to all of her first year students) I always check packaged foods for it. I was surprised to see that all of the pickles, even expensive brands had HFCS except the Wegmans store brand at our grocery store. I put them on the list and then Sebastian accidentally bought the no salt version, but they were sooooo good. They were so fresh tasting their was a tiny hint of actual freshly picked cucumber. Sebastian doesn't like pickles of any kind, but I convinced him to try one and he said it was good. Well, I only had a few and when I went to put some on a sandwich the jar was empty. He had eaten them all! 😅

  7. I love the dog photos. They make my heart smile. :-) I may have to try out the heated eye masks. They sound wonderful and would be perfect for when I get sinus and tension headaches. I seem to get them more and more these days. I used to love to play Sims! It's been years since I've played though. I would stay up all night playing in those days and had to wean myself off. LOL I hope you have a great week, Katherine!
