Life with Leukemia (And Some Reading) - January 23

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Cheddar Off Dead by Korina Moss - I can never resist a new cozy mystery and this one has cheese so what could be better?   (Publisher)

Crimson Summer by Heather Graham - I enjoyed the last book by Graham with FDLE Special Agent Amy Larson so I'm excited about this one. (Publisher)

Currently:

Reading:  The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont (just started this one) and The Murder of Mary Russell by Laurie R. King

Listening: The Secret Book and Scone Society by Ellery Adams (just started this one too)

Will has been feeling pretty good and has rediscovered a game called Stardew Valley and has gotten absolutely obsessed with it so we haven't seen him much this week other then doctor's appointments and when we force him to eat.  He's eaten enough that he still hasn't had to have the NG tube put back in and we are hoping to keep it that way.  Rover got annoyed at Will not playing with him so he decided to jump up on the chair and get some attention one way or the other.  He's not technically allowed on the furniture but I'm not sure how long that rule will last.

Speaking of Rover - he's getting enormous!  He's 14 weeks (today) and about 30 pounds.  I think his feet get bigger every time I look at him.  We've finally made some progress on the mouthiness and nipping (knock on wood) and he's responding so well to obedience training.  He's starting to feel more like having a dog around and not a wild toddler who is all feet and teeth.  He's also starting to develop that gorgeous golden retriever feathering on his legs and tail.  It's only just barely starting but I'm so excited.

It's been insanely cold here (for the South so in the 20s and 30s but we don't have a furnace or anything just a heat pump because it is NOT supposed to get this cold) and I am not liking it.  Other then that it's just been a normal week.  I'm trying to get better about going to sleep at a normal hour to see if that will help with my fatigue.  So far it hasn't hurt!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. Aww glad the tube is staying away. It's been cold here too and the furnace has been running a lot! Hope you guys come out of your cold snap soon!

I liked the books I read by Ellery Adams.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Yes a heat pump only does so much - I know! Rover will certainly not be wanting Will to be totally digital all the time! Hope you enjoy The Secret scone and book society.

  4. Keeping dogs off furnitures is a real challenge! Especially when they look so cute as Rover here ;-)

  6. I am curious about the Heather Graham book! I am glad that Will is feeling better and that is a cute picture of Rover trying to get his attention. :)

Hope getting to bed early is helping your insomnia, I have been very tired this past week. I think my body wants to hybernate from the cold...lol.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  8. I saw Stardew Valley several times last week while looking for games to play while listening to audiobooks. A lot of people like it!

  9. I'm glad that Will is doing well without the tube.

And I'm glad that going to bed at a normal hour seems to be helping your sleep troubles.

  11. That puppy is so cute! Love the pictures of him! And, very glad that Will has been able to manage without the tube. Hope that continues. You take care of yourself, please. We are all in your corner rooting for you as well as Will of course.

  12. I am so over the cold. I hope it warms up soon for you! Rover is adorable. I finally gave in and just let the dogs on the furniture now. I kind of like curling up with them these days. I hope that Will is able to eat enough so he doesn't have to get the tube back. I hope that you have a great week!

  13. I'm glad to hear you are getting to sleep earlier. That is how I do better but sometimes my mind is going and I stay up reading. We have had it both ways. Gina our miniature poodle for almost 18 years did not go on the furniture. Lulu does go on the furniture but only certain furniture and she is very good about sticking to just those pieces. I feel fortunate to have had very smart dogs. It's great Will is enjoying some things.

  14. I keep hearing good things about The Christie Affair and hope you are enjoying it. I am glad Will is continuing to eat on his own. My husband didn't want our dog on the furniture initially, but that rule fell by the wayside after awhile. Rover is bigger than my Riley was, so I don't know if that will make a difference for you. I am glad you are able to go to sleep earlier. I keep telling myself I will do that, but it rarely works out as planned. I hope you have a great week.

  15. Rover is adorable! I hope he got some attention from Will after the game. Culinary cozies are so fun, and how could you go wrong with a cheese shop? Yum! Hope you and yours are doing well. ♥

  16. Keep up with the good news! And I hope it gets warmer in the South... Super cold in Illinois, but alas that's the norm.

  17. I'm glad the NG tube can stay out. Will must feel so much better without it. Rover is just the cutest! It's in the mid 40s here this morning... with freeze warnings just a little bit inland. So, so cold. I think my blood has gotten thinner since we moved down here, lol. Hope you have a good week.

  18. Oh my goodness! I never thought about people in the south not having furnaces! That makes total sense though. I hope it warms up for you guys soon.

    And yay for good eating!!!!

  19. It really stinks when you can't get your house warmed up to the cozy level. 20s in the South much harder than 20s in the North. Glad Will has a well deserved escape to enjoy during the worst of winter. Have a great week!

  20. Urg! You have my profound sympathy in having to cope with a house not properly equipped for the cold you're enduring. I hope it soon warms up! And delighted to hear that Will is managing to eat without the aid of a feeding tube - I recall when my sister needed one during one of her Crohns' flareups and she'd lost too much weight. While they certainly do the job, it not much fun so fingers crossed that he continues to be able to do without it:). Have a great week, Katherine.

  21. I'm glad Will is feeling better and eating better! Yay for being able to avoid the NG tube. I have heard so much about Stardew Valley; one of these years I will try it. Rover is adorable and growing so fast! I'm sorry your heat pump and house aren't keeping up with the cold temperatures. I know what you mean about heat pumps not keeping up; even when the thermostat indoors says it's 67, sometimes it doesn't feel like it. Because we are more likely to get cold temperatures up here, though, our heat pump has an auxilliary/emergency heat setting that bypasses the heat pump and just heats the house without it. It uses more electricity but it's necessary sometimes. (We also have to use it when there's a lot of snow or freezing rain, or even rain when the air is just above freezing, because the outside fan for the heat pump ices up and stops turning.)

Have a good week, and I hope Will keeps on feeling better!

  22. Good to hear the tube is staying away for kow - hope it continues! Rover is adorable and omg sounds like he's going to be huge (I have a chihuahua terrier so all dogs are huge compared to her lol). Hope y'all are having a good week!

  23. It's been subzero temps here for an extended period and it does get depressing after a while. I hope things warm up for both of us. 🥶
