This Week in Reading - March 31

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay - It's  about a woman who inherits her aunt's bookshop.  There's some finding yourself going on, family secrets and a sale thwarting staff all centering around a bookstore.  (Blog Tour)

Summer on Mirror Lake by Joann Ross - I've enjoyed the first two books in this series and this one involves a librarian which is always a selling point for me.  (Publisher)

Currently:

Reading:  An Artless Demise by Anna Lee Huber and False Mermaid by Erin Hart

Listening:  It took me longer to finish up The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith than I expected so I just finished it Friday and won't start another audio book until Monday.  I'm thinking either Shadow Spell by Nora Roberts or Untraceable by Laura Griffin

Watching:  We are getting through a list of Disney movies - So far we've watched Coco and Wreck it Ralph and it's either Frozen or Tangled this weekend.  I'm really enjoying having an official family movie night.  Other than that I haven't been watching much TV though we've been really loving March Madness.  War Eagle!  Also binge watching NCIS and really enjoying it.  I was more than a little nervous when Abby left but I really like Casey.

Off the Blog:

A bit of a crazy week but for no real reason.  You know where you spend all your time feeling frazzled and rushed and behind but aren't actually accomplishing anything or doing anything?   That was my week.  It was spring pictures at the Tornado's school.  I'm chairing picture days this year so I had to be there all day and it was definitely more than a bit like herding cats but it got done!

It's finally some warm weather but the bugs aren't out so we spent all last weekend outside!  I took a break from gardening last year but I'm excited to get things planted this year.  We don't get a lot of sun so I'm going to stick to a few tomato plants in the sunniest areas (because nothing is better than a fresh tomato) and stick to herbs and flowers for cutting in the rest of the beds.  I might get a pepper plant or two but it will depend on what I see that interests me.  I'm excited to get started and see what happens when I try to work with our actual environment a little better.

Also, I got an essential oil diffuser in my FabFitFun box this week and I'm excited to use it but I don't know what essential oils I should use.  Any essential oil recommendations?  Or blends?  Or tips?  I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do with it but I'm very excited.

  1. FRozen and Tangled are both so much fun! And movie nights are the best. :)

Good luck with the gardening too. Fresh tomatoes from the garden are sooo good.

  2. Big yes to home grown tomatoes, just about to pull my last plant out. We are see sawing! I saw The Printed Letter Bookshop think on Edelweiss but didn't request it as don't want to overload. But it is tempting.

  3. I like how excited you are for spring and the garden. I have a bad case of non-green fingers and nothing ever stays alive in my small garden. I hope you have a great week ahead.

  4. I love Disney movies! We watch family movies as well! Have you seen Mary Poppins Returns? I recommen it! I'm glad the weather has changed as well. I'd like to get in to gardening, but I live in an apartment. Maybe when I get my own home one day. Essential oils are awesome! Congrats on your new diffuser! It will be good to use when you need to decompress from your stressful and hectic week :)

  5. Oh that is how I felt a few weeks back. Love that you are having Family Movie Nights. My husband use to make us and our son have a family night especially when we just got too busy. My dad use to make us do family time like a few times a month. We either played board games or he was big on taking us to the beach to pick sea shells. As a kid loved it but got in my teens and hated it. All I wanted to do was talk on the phone. Thankful everyday we did this as a family. Have great memories. When I go home for visits my dad will still takes us all out as a family and go pick sea shells. Love him for that.

    Happy Reading

  7. Cool to be able to watch all the movies or programs you like from the comfort of your own couch so you can snack or relax in luxury.(lol) I haven't seen NCIS since Abby left and didn't even know she'd been replaced(lol) Glad you like her though. Hugs...RO

  11. I hate those kind of weeks, I always feel like I missed something.
I can not wait to plant my garden, I just need to wait until I get back from vacation. I love fresh tomatoes out of the garden. I can't wait to get started.

I hope this week is awesome for you Katherine! Happy Reading!

  12. Oh family movie night is fun! Those are some great Disney ones you have gotten to. We are going to try and garden this year. My brother in law is going to help us but we are going small to start out. Hoping we can do it! Have a great week!

  13. For the first time, I tried growing tomatoes and peppers from seed in small containers kept in a warm place. The tomatoes did great until last week, when they began to fade to an odd yellow color. We went ahead and planted them in the ground. But I'm not sure they will work out.

I could read books set in bookshops all day, I think. Thanks for sharing this one.

  15. I used to garden a lot in Iowa and Minnesota. Here the soil is crappy so I go to the farmer's market instead.

We have used essential oils for years. We have gotten doterra which are good but expensive. I recommend Revive Oils. My favorite diffuser blend is Breathe Air, Guard and Lavendar. My daughter uses lots of Rosemary for headaches. They have kits for better pricing and free shipping.

    Happy reading!

  16. Just a quick warning to be careful if you have pets- essential oils aren't great for them. Make sure the area is well-ventilated and your pets can leave the room if they need to. (I have a diffuser, but I only run it when I can keep the downstairs windows open and if the cats are upstairs, which is pretty much never!) Lavender and peppermint make a nice combination, as do any of the citrus-based essential oils together.

I'm looking forward to warmer weather so I can both air the house out and so we can start planting some stuff! Last year, we basically threw a few packs of dollar store tomato seeds into the ground, shoved some of our compost in there, and watered it most nights. We ended up with 17 tomato plants! We couldn't believe it. We're hoping to expand the garden with some different plants this year, but we'll see what our friendly neighborhood squirrels allow us to do.

    Have a great week!

  18. It does seem like some weeks consist of rushing around and getting nothing done. Have a great week and enjoy your new books!

  19. I’m hoping to plant my garden as well!! I took last year off but I really missed my fresh veggies! And my youngest loves fresh tomatoes so I at least need to plant tomato plants!

  21. It is too soon for us to plant. We've had snow as late as early May. Ah, Frozen. I can quote it and Sophia knows almost all the lyrics to Let it Go.

  22. Cool on the family movie night. We try to watch a movie together now and then; Mary Poppins Returns was the last one.

  23. You are right; there is nothing like a fresh tomato! 🍅

Is the diffuser a reed diffuser, or an electric mist one? Be very careful if it is the mister because it can make cats very ill. I don't know if it's only certain essential oils, or all of them. It can even affect some dogs. There seems to be a lot of information to Google about it. 🐾✨

I hope you are having a wonderful week. Enjoy your flowers! 🌷🌷🌷
