Ten Middle Grade Books I Have My Eye On

One of my favorite genres and one that is the easiest for me to push aside is middle grade fiction. This year to make sure I get a little more children's and young adult fiction I thought I would designate the first Monday of every month Middle Grade Monday (though sometimes it doesn't end up working quite right) .  While a lot of my picks this year are classics I am trying to branch out a little bit and read new or at least recent releases.   This month I didn't actually get to the book I had planned because the waiting list for the audio at the library was longer than I expected.  Yes, I could have read it but the audio is narrated by David Tennant and I just couldn't pass that up.  So instead I thought I'd look at all the books that are coming up on my list or that I've seen on the shelves but want to read.

1.  Tilly and the Bookwanders by Anna James - I'm not sure if this one is out yet but I saw it on Edelweiss and thought it looked amazing.  It has beloved book characters coming to life and there's lots hijinks and mayhem.  I'll definitely e buying this as soon as it comes out.

2. Andi Unexpected by Amanda Flowers - This one came on my radar because Amanda Flowers writes mysteries that I enjoy.  And then the blurb landed it on my TBR.  Andi is looking into a missing relative from the 1930s and that is an adventure I want to go on!

3.  Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein - This series has been on my TBR since I first came across it years ago.  It has a library and kids having adventures and all the stuff I love so I'm looking forward to it.

4.  Ghosts of Greenglass House by Kate Milford - I read the first one on this series last year and really enjoyed it.  I'm curious to see how the story continues.

5.  How I Became a Spy: A Mystery of WWII London by Deborah Hopkinson - I love spy stories and I love this time period so this sounds fantastic.

6.  If the Magic Fits by Susan Maupin Schmid - A closet full of enchanted dresses.  I've heard nothing about this but I love the premise.

7.  Marabel and the Book of Fate by Tracy Barrett - I apparently love magic in my middle grade and one involves a book of fate that has ruled the character's actions up until something changes the fate.

8.  Mystery in the Mansion by Lauren Magaziner - Really the fact that the title sounds like a Nancy Drew book is all I needed to put this one on my list but it also sounds like a great mystery and one I definitely want to try.

9.  The Night Parade by Kathryn Tanquary - I don't know much about this one either other than it's been highly recommended by some of my favorite bloggers and there's some magic involved so it sounds like a winner.

10.  Clues in the Attic by Cari Meister - This is a graphic novel that solves a mystery and has the main character facing some fears but in a non scary way.  I think it'd be a fun one to read together and one he could read and enjoy on his own.

Any Middle Grade coming up on your TBR?

  1. These look lovely. Middle grade is one that gets pushed to the side for me as well, and it shouldn't because there are some great books in this genre (which has changed so much even in the past ten years since my son started reading MG books!). I keep saying I'm going to read more MG, but haven't gotten around to it yet- but I'm sure I will as my daughter gets a little older and starts to read on her own. :)

And you know, now that I think about it, I'm weirdly okay with middle grade books with magic...but I'm not a fan of YA or adult books with magic. Huh. I need to ponder that a bit.

  2. I think there's a ton of great MG stuff coming out, but I rarely make time for it. When I started blogging I reviewed more MG than I do now, and I kinda miss trying some of the new stuff. Mystery in the Mansion DOES sound like a Nancy Drew! And so does Clues in the Attic actually. :)

  3. I am reading more MG this year. These are all new to me. I do understand why you sometimes just have to wait for the audio :)

  4. Oh, these all look good. I am looking forward to when the Royals hit this age group. We are going to have fun at the bookstore and library!

  5. That looks like a great bundle of MG books, I wish I did read more of them but never seem to get to them, the one I did read this year - The Wednesday Wars was outstanding. But I suspect it will be the only one I reach this year.

  6. I love good MG fiction, especially fantasy! And some of these sound wonderful. I keep meaning to read Greenglass House; I have it on my Kindle.

  7. I love the cover of Tilly and the Bookwanderers! I watched a video once about Harry Potter fans who grew up in strict religious homes and the author was one of the participants. ⚡

I have had Ghosts of Greenglass House on my TBR forever. I should check and see if Hoopla has it. 👍✨

Yay for The Night Parade. I keep forgetting that I want to re-read it. 💜
