This Week in Reading - April 22

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

She Was the Quiet One by Michele Campbell - The sitting is an upscale boarding school and the blurb promises lots of twists and turns so there was no way I could resist!  (Publisher)

Till Death Do Us Tart by Ellie Alexander - I've been reading this cozy mystery series set around a bakery in Oregon since the beginning and now it feels like revisiting old friends.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with the characters - and find out who got murdered!  (Publisher)

Murder at the Mansion by Sheila Connolly - Connolly is a favorite cozy mystery author and I couldn't resist this new series involving a woman returning to her home town and a huge Victorian house that's turned into an inn!  (Publisher)

Currently:

Reading:  Murder in the Bowery by Victoria Thompson, Antique Blues by Jane K. Cleland, and The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton

Listening:  I'm almost done with Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.  I've been enjoying it and surprised by how much I connect with the characters.

Watching:  We got a new cable provider (because I wanted internet that actually worked more than half the time) so I've mostly been trying to figure out how to make everything work in the new over complicated box.

Off the Blog:

I haven't been feeling great lately which has really been affecting my reading.  It's nothing serious just really tired and headachey and focusing on a book seems harder than it should be.  I've been up and down like this the last couple of months and it's starting to get beyond annoying!  The past few weeks have been really crazy but I think this week is going to be different and I'm hoping that I can catch up on my rest.

I had a nice visit with my grandparents.  The weather cooperated and we watched some really wonderful movies.  I'm growing my list of movie essentials that I'm looking forward to sharing.  I've also got a new feature starting this week involving Nancy Drew books.   I'm comparing the original version with the one that was rewritten in the 50s and 60s.  So far it's been really interesting to me at least.

On the Blog:

What Happened:

What's Coming Up:

Monday:  Sleeping Murder - Buddy Read with Emma from One Reader's Thoughts
Tuesday:  The Nancy Drew Project - Secret of the Old Clock
Wednesday:  Antique Blues - Cozy Mystery Review
Thursday:  Murder in the Bowery - Historical Mystery Review
Friday:  Friday Linkups with Current Book
Saturday: TBD

What do you have going on this week?  What are you reading?

  1. I have enjoyed Connolly's County Cork series, but now I want to try this one. It looks tempting!

Enjoy your week, and I'm off to check out this series.

  2. She Was The Quiet One looks good! What is it about boarding schools?? Houses turned into inns are always nice too- I still miss Kate Kingsbury's Hotel Pennyfoot mysteries. And yay for Big Little Lies! I felt the same way- I was also surprised how much I could relate, to all th suburbia stuff.

Love the sound of your Nancy Drew project. That should be interesting and fun!

  4. I hope you start to feel better soon! I understand your frustration on being up and down with feeling bad, I've been the same for the past month.

I used to adore the Nancy Drew books as a kid, though I don't think I read that many. I hope you have a great week!

  5. She was the quiet one sounds really good.

Can't wait to check out your Nancy Drew series as I absolutely loved them and recently acquired quite a few and is now on my Kindle awaiting to be re-read.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  6. They say that when you feel like that in the spring, it's because you've grown tired in the winter and you need vitamins and fresh foods to get back on track. I hope you feel better soon!

  7. I struggle to read when I don't feel well or just blah. I'm looking forward to reading more on the movies.

  10. I got sick a month or two ago and reading got pretty hard too, it's best to just take a break and come back to it when you feel better! Hope it clears up quickly.

  11. I sure hope you feel much better these days, and hate that you haven't been feeling up to par. I can totally relate because I've been missing from my blog because of it. So nice to spend time with family and to watch movies. Looking forward to hearing about the movie binge. Sending some healing hugs your way! RO

  12. I'm sorry you haven't felt well. Lots of us along the Gulf Coast have been feeling a little poorly, and we think it's allergies set off by last fall's Hurricane Harvey.

    Enjoy your books!

  13. I'm sorry that you are feeling below par - it's been a long old winter and slow spring, which can't be helping. And we never really know what's blowing in the wind these days... I hope you feel a lot better soon, Katherine!

  14. I'm sorry that you haven't felt well, Katherine. I don't usually have spring allergies, but we've had such a bumper crop of oak pollen. And I don't think it's ever going to get truly warm. Can't even believe I'm complaining about that, but still.

I loved Big Little Lies and have read and listened to it. A really good book. Your Nancy Drew project sounds very interesting and I'll watch for your thoughts. And, yes, boarding schools, colleges, those types of settings...I love them. Hope your week is better.

  16. I read all the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series as a kid, but when I wanted to re-read it with my daughter a few years ago, it just didn't have the spark I remembered. I'm currently reading an historical mystery and loving it. Hope you enjoy your reading week and that you start to feel better.

  17. I seem to enjoy books set in Victorianish inns, so I'm definitely checking out Connolly's book. I could use a cozy mystery right now.

  19. She Was The Quiet One looks promising. I am a sucker for boarding school settings. Headaches and fatigue are no fun. I certainly hope it turns around for you this week!

  21. I hope you are feeling better, Katherine. It sounds like you have some great books going. I haven't really been feeling much like reading lately and am now battling a cold. I don't know if the two are related or me just being so indecisive. I hope you have a great week!

  22. Sorry you have been feeling not well - it is surprising how feeling like that can put you off reading etc. I find I don't even want to watch my fav TV when that happens. Be well, sending healing waves over the ocean.

  23. I hope you feel better soon. I read a few Nancy Drew books when I was a kid, but I have no idea when they were written. I know they were very dated. Have a great week!
