Friday Linkups - Better Late Than Never
It's Friday linkup time! I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice
This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
If you had an authors-only Thanksgiving party, who would you invite?
My Answer:
This is a tough one! Agatha Christie of course. I'd love to hear all about her life and just about her books in general though I'd have to be very careful not to ask where she got her ideas because she hated that. Dorothy L. Sayers would be fun as well. Her style is very different than Christie's but I love her twisty mysteries and I have no doubt that there's a biting sense of humor there. And speaking of humor I think I'd have to invite Douglas Adams. I adore his humor and his ability to turn the most mundane scenes into madness. While not really a party this sounds like it'd make for a highly entertaining evening so I'll just leave it at that.
This week's book is Better Late Than Never by Jenn McKinlay. It's the seventh book in her Library Lover's series which is probably my favorite. I'm a little behind on the series but this one involves a 20 year old overdue library book with connections to an unsolved murder so I just couldn't resist!
The Beginning:
"Let the wild rumpus start!" Beth Stanley cried as the cart of books she had stacked to bursting abruptly regurgitated its contents all over the Briar Creek Public Library's main floor with a loud rushing noise followed by slaps and thumps as the books landed on the ground.
My Thoughts:
I'm sure I'd change my mind pretty quickly if I had to do it as part of my job but sorting through all these books sounds really fun!
The 56:
"Ms. Cole, call 9-1-1," Lindsay said.
"No," Ms. Cole said.
My Thoughts:
I've gotten to know Ms. Cole a little as the series has gone but this seems pretty cold even for her!
So what do you think? Keep reading? Who would you invite to dinner?

I like secrets from the past and all because of a book? Sounds good to me.

Refusing to call 911 in an emergency... I'm so intrigued!! Like, why not Ms. Cole?! ;-) Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun read! I love that cover, too. Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “FRAGMENTS OF THE LOST”
ReplyDeleteI don't know this series but as a retired librarian it sounds like one I'd enjoy. This week I am spotlighting The Human Division by John Scalzi. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteEven though I am visiting from Book Beginnings I want to answer you Book Blogger Hop question. I would like to invite an author who writes nonfiction for Thanksgiving. Someone like Timothy Egan or Erik Larson. I'd like to ask them how they conduct their research. Friday Quotes: Long Way Down
ReplyDeleteWhat a great first line, who wouldn't read more? Thanks for sharing, and have a great Friday!
ReplyDeleteI put this series on my wishlist on my online library so I could try it. Have to wait till I get some of my holds before I can add more to that section. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like that might be a cool dinner!

I would love to meet Agatha Christie. I wouldn't have thought of Douglas Adams, but he is a good choice too!
ReplyDeleteHaving read my first in the series recently, I definitely would want to read Better Late Than Never. I hope to read the rest of the series as well. :-) Enjoy!
Have a great weekend, Katherine!
Ack I need to try Jenn McKinlay one of these days! Her covers are always awesome too even by cozy standards.
ReplyDeleteI think that would be a pretty fun Thanksgiving get- together also!
Ooh I loved the Book Blogger Hop question!! I have my Book Beginnings post up, (I was late signing up), I hope you will stop by and visit! And I would love to have JK Rowling and James Patterson!!

Oh I would love to meet Agatha Christie :) Great answer!
ReplyDeleteAll those library fines stacking up? No wonder murder is involved... As for my author dinner guests - Jo Walton and Tricia Sullivan - both smart, clever and very talented women. I've heard them both talk at conferences and know them to be articulate and brimming with cool ideas. Though the food might get cold...
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to have a favorite author for sure :) Would definitely make things interesting.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would invite Agatha Christie! 🍴
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh... having Douglas Adams at a dinner party would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to have Agatha Christie as a Thanksgiving guest! I have yet to read one of her novels, but she's got such a reputation as a great writer!
ReplyDeleteWhile I've heard of Dorothy L. Sayers, I'm not as familiar with her as I am with Christie, but she would probably be a GREAT guest, too!
As for Douglas Adams....OMG, this writer has a reputation for GREAT, off-the-wall humor, so I wouldn't be able to resist! Lol.
I LOVE your chosen book for this week, too! Murder mysteries with libraries involved? ABSOLUTELY!! :)
Thanks for commenting on my BBH post, Katherine! Hope you and your family have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving!! <3 <3 :) :)
What a great group of authors... my writing partner would love to be invited! Actually I would LOVE to meet Christie and I take note of your warning not to ask where her ideas came from! I think a small group of authors is better since you would want to pick there brains and really you can’t have too many egos in the same room! ♥️🍰🦃
ReplyDeleteI think your Thanksgiving party would be great!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great read! I've shelved books before for our library aide. I had my entire class helping shelve books one day when she had an emergency. It's fun...until you get more than 20 at a time. It can take forever!
ReplyDeleteI love that beginning and it makes perfect sense for a librarian to use a quote from Where the Wild Things Are in a time of chaos. To answer your question, since you're already on book 7 of a series, you should probably go ahead and keep reading. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. - Katie
Oh, I may have to add this to my tbr! :)
