Friday Linkups: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
Is every day a reading day for you?

My Answer:
I definitely read more on some days than others but I always read some every day even if it's a few pages so I guess the answer is yes!

This week's book is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again by Frank Cottrell Boyce.  I listened to the first Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a year or so ago and loved it.  While I had heard of it I know I hadn't read it before or even seen the movie but it was so much fun!  This year my library got the audio for the 2nd book which is narrated by David Tennant who is my favorite Doctor and has just the best voice.  I'm a little nervous because while Ian Fleming (of the James Bond books) wrote the first book this 2nd book is by a completely different author.  I'm hoping that the middle grade format will be more forgiving of the author change and even if it's not David Tennant is reading it and that is never a bad thing!

The Beginning:
Most cars are just cars.  Four wheels. An engine.  Some seats.  They take you to work. Or to school. They bring you home again. But some cars - just a few - are more than cars.

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty promising.  The language is pretty similar to the original and I'm so excited for another adventure!

The 56:
"You mean, you're not in control of this vehicle?"
"No, no. It was me.  I just changed my mind at the last minute," Dad lied.  "I thought it would be nice to go right, that's all."

My Thoughts:
I haven't gotten here yet but I'm guessing this family is figuring out that things aren't quite what they seem with their new car!

So what do you think?  Keep reading?  What is your reaction when a different author continues a series?

  1. I love Chitty Chitty!!! You have never seen the movie!!! OMG, I have it on dvd and watch it all the time...lol. I got the sing-a-long one so I can make it to where the words to the song pop up so I can sing...lol. :) Glad this one is going well! With David Tennant you can never go wrong, he was my favorite Doctor Who as well! :)

  2. Oh, what a delightful sounding book! I've never even seen the movie (I don't think), although I'm sure it was on TV at some point when my kids were young.

Enjoy! Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “THE STEP MOTHER”

  7. It's rare there is a day I don't read even a few pages either. I don't feel right if I don't.

  8. I have always been curious about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I will look for it. And very cool how a James Bond actor wrote the first one. Never knew that tidbit.

  9. Ooh interesting question. I have to say there are some days I don't read- either the busyness of life or blogging lol get in the way! I've never read Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and barely remember the movie, all i remember is that I liked it as a kid! I think the original and this would be fun. Hope it turns out great. :)

  10. I've never read Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but like you said, I do love the idea of David Tennant reading it to me! I'm also an everyday reader; I like the weekly prompt, I may have to jump on that next week!

  11. I think I have a copy of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang stored away. It might be fun to pull out again. Love the first bit.

The day has to be pretty unusually crazy for me not to read at least a little bit.

  12. Yes, I read every day - and if I can't I get a little grumpy.
I remember seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the theatre when I was a kid.

  14. I don't remember if I have ever seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or not. Probably? I usually read at least a bit. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. I have to be sick to not read anything.

  18. I have never read Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but I loved the movie as a child. I don't think I thought of reading it with Sebastian even though he liked the movie, either. I am trying to think if I have ever read a book where another author has taken over. :)
